“Amazing!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 26, 2013

WOW! This lake is breathtaking and comes complete with two volcanoes in the background. It almost does not look real. I cannot tell you how many photos I have just of the lake! We did a short nature hike around the lake for more viewpoints. We were extremely lucky with the weather because if clouds roll in, your view will be obstructed.

“So Beautiful It's Surreal”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 24, 2013

We were fortunate to be able to stay at a hotel overlooking this magnificent lake with two volcanoes as a backdrop. Our tour guide said that the we were lucky to be there in December with clear weather. We saw some clouds and grey skies the next morning but it cleared up later in the day. If you are in the vicinity do not miss this place. The modest town is pleasant too.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 25, 2013

Were picked up by coach and first stop was a park with volcanic waterfalls very impressive. The lake wonderful and on arrival did a 4x4 trip which took us further into the park. The only thing that was not very good was being told were lucn was very muddled but would recommend this trip

“Drive the lake circuit....it's spectacular!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 17, 2013

First impressions always count and when we first glimpsed this gorgeous lake it was the sheer size and volume of water that took us by surprise. In fact it reminded us of an inland sea or perhaps of the Lakes district in Italy albeit much, much larger!

That description only fits so far because as we drove the entire lake circuit the iconic Osorno Volcano makes its presence felt just about everywhere you look. We have seen Mt Fuji with its lake however; Llanquihue has the most stunning surroundings including a backdrop of rolling farmlands and cute little towns before the rise of the Andes on the far eastern side of this lake.

Our drive started in Puerto Varas, the most touristy town on the lake then continued on a brief freeway that evens out to a less busy road to the German heritage town of Fruitillar. Here the quietly lapping water beckons summer holiday makers and has a bit of a resort feel - without the high rises!

The drive veers away from the lake here enroute to Puerto Octay and where the roads get a little bumpy. It was worth it though as there is a magnificent lookout here the shows the higher northern aspect of the lake. Although this town is small, it has a Bavarian flair surrounded by dairy fields.

As we got closer to Ensenada the forests appeared very close to the lakeshore.Further on you can divert to Osorno National Park or continue along the main route of the lake.Once again we were back in the heart of the tourist throng amongst the roadside souvenir stalls and a couple of interesting restaurants.

We allowed several hours to include the lake circuit, the National Park and some time at each well-known town or area along the drive. However, we had to slow down on the road we used between Frutillar and Puerto Octay - inland slightly through dairy farms. Nonetheless, it’s a spectacular way to see Llanquihue particularly if it’s a fine day.

Enjoy your experience!

“Awesome!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 9, 2013

When traveling near Puerto Varas circling the Lago Llanquihue is a must. Rent a car and start driving around it is a nice way to see some of the best landscapes ever. So can see the great sunset, Osorno Volcano, and lots of perfect green landscape. On the way around the lake you must make a stop in Frutillar, a very beautiful town
