“Don't Go Here (Cathay)”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed February 10, 2013

Don't go to Nihon Mura @ The Cathay

The Cathay is an under-customised shopping centre at the bottom end of Orchard Rd. The restaurant is just too big for the low volume of traffic the mall receives, so I expect that this is why the food is not fresh.

Absolutely awful. It's more or less self ordering using silly ice cream sticks you choose by walking round a big food station. You then give these to a cashier who processes the order.

Food was poor quality; we had chicken on a stick (a Japanese style plain satay) that was inedible. (We asked for this not to be charged to our bill and the manager thankfully agreed.)
The California roll wasn't fresh; the chicken rice on a hot plate (bowl) had almost no chicken to speak of. $3.50 for a bowl of Miso soup that was about 100ml of fluid.

Plenty of Japanese places in Plaza Singapura, 100m away, so suggest you go there.

“Nihon Mura @ Jurong West”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 7, 2013

I'm a regular to this outlet, not because of its food and services but more to the near distance to my house. Frankly speaking, the food is of lower quality compare to standard Japanese Restaurant but of course the price is also much cheaper. The staffs are hard working but not trained to receive large crowd. They will tend to make mistakes and inattentive if the restaurant is crowded. They will provide good service if the restaurant is much empty, if not, just prepare to self-serve. My boy likes the Oreo Milkshake and I loved the grilled salmon fish head. I would like to specially compliment an auntie staff in this outlet as she is very hard working and attentive despite she is mute. She is disabled because she can’t speak but she provides excellent service! I would recommend the Management to reward this staff because she is worth it!

“Not worth the trouble!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed January 4, 2013

Went to the outlet at City Square Mall because the queue at Sushi Tei was too long. No queue at all but service staff just took their own time to attend to us at the door and we found our own table in the end. Pictures in menu look very enticing but read the fine print - pictures may not represent the actual dish. Which was so true! Ordered a udon noodles which was so tiny and had none of the condiments in the picture, soup came in a disposable plastic container which you had to pour in yourself. When we wanted to order sushi that was not on the conveyor belt, we were told that we couldn't - only eat what is on the belt. It got really boring after a while. Despite the cheap price ($1.50 per plate), don't be deceived. You actually end up spending more because the portions are so small. Paid $50 for four persons and we had to have McDonald's after that because it was so unsatisfying.

“Excellent at Punggol, bad service at Tampines”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 21, 2012

Cheap n fresh Japanese food, loved the sashimi especially ;)

Service at Punggol is excellent, patient and attentive staffs.

Service at Tampines = poor. Especially staff by the name of JM (that was all that was printed on her name tag) not only was she rude in her tone of talking, she slammed the chopsticks as well.
