I've stayed at the Hotel 81 chain before so sort of knew what to expect. This one was fairly similar but was not like it was horrific or anything.
The only bad mark I would give was that I felt the staff were a little snappish, unfriendly, and didn't want to be bothered.
Aside from that, the hotel was not bad and just a stone's throw from another hotel I've stayed at before, and was right beside it on the same road. The water in the shower was always hot, the sheets and towels very clean, nice ac, and a nice and quiet sleep.
* The only glitch was that the sink in my particular room (706) drained a little slow and took a little while to completely discharge. Other than that, everything was okay.
The rooms ARE small for this hotel chain (but then again, I only expect that after staying at this kind of hotel many times before). It's not a bad deal though I don't think.
The best reason as to why I chose this hotel was it's location: it's very close to the Alljunied MRT station. Within only about 12 minutes, one can make it to this particular station and from there, gain access to the rest of the city. It's also not very far if going to the airport via the MRT as well.
Also, it gains good points from me in that there are also a great number of eateries in the immediate area (along with a 7 Eleven just around the corner to pick up snacks).
One of my favorite places (that I only found on the last trip here in February of this year) was a place close to this MRT and simply called 'Choice'. It's a small set of food stalls that sell mainly Chinese food but wow was that food good.
Most importantly, go to the stall nearest the 7 Eleven but of course still within the 'Choice' stalls.
Basically, you just 'chose' out of two options, tell the server what you want, and you get it. It was only just over 3 dollars too! They have some of the best Chinese food that I've had in awhile too.
If you want to find it, just go up to the MRT and then look to your right. You'll see a strand of shops including a 7 Eleven, and at the very end of the set of shops (nearest the street) you will see a red sign with white writing that simply says, 'Choice' (with a fork & spoon between the i and c). More specifically, it's right at the junction of Lorong 25A Geylang and Sims Avenue.
Enjoy * ( and try to get the chicken that looks like it's in a light red sauce....sooooo good!)
