“you get what you paid for”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2013

I stayed in this hotel for 4 nights as a solo female traveller. It was about a 10-15mins walk from the Aljunied station, and was in the street where "red-light" establishments were located. It didn't bother me though, as the environment seemed safe enough. There were a couple of nights that I went back to the hotel past 10pm and everything, even along the street, seemed "normal". In the mornings though, going to the train station, I would always pass by "girls in revealing clothes standing and waiting" alongside the shophouses. They don't bother me - I just ignore them and move on.

If you are not up to walking 10-15 mins every time to and from the train station, then the hotel is also close to two bus stations, which makes it a good location. A few meters to the right is the bus station along Geylang Road (Lorong 18). You can take a bus here to go to Mustafa. Towards the left of the hotel, past the corner of the block, is the bus station along Guillermard Ave (Lorong 16). You can take buses here to go to Bugis or Orchard.

For the price I paid, and comparing it to similar-priced hotels in Singapore, I felt that the room I had (standard) was value for money. It was spacious enough, with a queen-sized bed, a small TV (with a remote that doesn't work), basic amenities, and free wifi access. The internet connection sometimes gets cut though, and you have to re-logon or just wait until you get access again. The only major issue I have is the noise along the hallways. There were a couple of nights that I wasn't able to sleep properly. The first night, I could hear some Chinese-speaking people shouting at each other while walking up and down the hallway. I tried to tolerate it, thinking that it would only last a few minutes. But no, it went on for quite some time, that I had to call the hotel's reception to complain. I was told that they would go up and check, and thankfully, after a few more minutes, it was quiet already.

The second night (Friday), the noise came from kids running up and down the hallway, knocking on doors, ringing the doorbell, and just playing around. Apparently, a group of students/kids have just checked in, and were occupying several rooms in the floor I was in. Again, it was a test of my patience as I tried to reason out that they were just kids. My patience failed me again though, as I called the reception once more to complain. It was only after a considerable time that I finally got to sleep again.

Overall, on a tight budget, I would probably stay in this hotel again. However, if I have a bit more to spare, I think I would choose another one, preferably with sound-proof rooms.

Very disappointed - rooms are very small; bad internet connectivity and mobile in the rooms; so lacking in hotel services, amenities and facilities; front desk staff don't smile and don't seem unhappy serving customers; 15 minute walk to the nearest MRT station.

This is one of the most disgusting hotel. We chose this hotel on agoda and did not know that it was located in the red light district. Feels odd to walk at night with lots of prostitute and pimps all around. There are brothels all along the street in geylang. The hotel is dirty. Room not well clean, rust, mould on the wall. Toilet is small and smelly. Just beware never will go there. People keeps coming late at night. Too many prostitute all around.

I have spend 1 night here, it is terrible experience. The quality of this hotel even worse than a hostel with 4 times higher fee. The room was full of smoke, quality of the bed like cheap one we can find in sky market. This is hotel for someone to spend few hour with hookers

Staying at this hotel, you have to think rationally. This hotel is a hotel that is cheap, provides facilities not only to sleep for fun.
The hotel staff was very friendly, helped us in many ways.
We came in a ragged condition, because we were from traveling in KL, and use the train.
Once arrived in singapore, we only think of Hotel 81, where we were recommended to go to the Geylang area.
Imagine, the hotel staff received us kindly, give a good price, but at the weekend.
They gave us a good room and clean enough.
Indeed, the hotel is in the area of prostitution, so I just suggest to travelers, this area is not worth it, if you come with your family.
But if you're a backpacker, this hotel as a place to stay your decent.
This area is also a lot of good place to eat, a lot of hawker around the hotel.
Hotel is also very easy attainment of the MRT station Aljuniedh
Happy Holidays!!

Only needed to stay in Singapore for the nightk so I picked this hotel because it was cheap.

I found the hotel old and lacking character but it was clean, quiet, air conditioning, wifi and shower worked and the bed was ok.

The reception staff were helpful with advice.

It might turn a few people off that it is in the same street where there are numerous brothels
