“Lovely stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 24, 2013

Lovely room. It was very clean and the hotel staff were extremely friendly.

The location was good, it was within walking distance of Orchard Road(15mins) and Little India metro station(10mins). From Little India metro station it is very easy to get connections all over Singapore. The hotel is a short taxi ride from the airport which costs $20-25.

The breakfast was okay, offering a small selection of cereals, fruit, toast and a hot option (i.e.. scrambled eggs).

Overall we really enjoyed our stay here and would recommend it to others.

We stayed at the Perak for 3 nights 16-19OCT and couldn't fault it. The location is extremely central and within walking distance to everything you would need; the aircon was a welcome relief from the heat and humidity of Singapore (and already on when we checked in!); the included breakfast was tasty with good variety (there was a differen "main" each morning) and the hotel staff were all very friendly. Beautiful wooden floors added to the charm of the Perak.

Furthermore, there was the BEST INDIAN RESTAURANT next to the hotel called Shahi Kitchen - amazing staff, fluffy naan and cold Tiger beer!

Paid and booked into this hotel for 3 nights, 3/10/10 - 6/10/13 but booked out and stayed somewhere else after 1 night. The rooms are a cross between a prison cell and a public toilet, the beds are so small my feet hang over the end of the bed by 3 -4 inches and I am only 6 feet tall. The rooms are small and furnished with a few sticks of tatty furtiture and the free toiletries consist of a bar of soap, nothing else. There was a constant thud thud of drums from a nearby club untill 3.00am and in the morning we could hear every sound from the room above. A truly terrible experience, we could not wait to get out of the place and the management refused to refund us for the 2 nights we did not stay. I really do not understand the reviews that say exellent and outstanding, this is a back packers hotel at best.

Room Tip: There is no good room at this hotel

We returned to Perak Hotel for a 4 day stay on our way back from Thailand and were again treated to the friendliness and efficient service of the staff. This time we were placed in a room on the 3rd floor which was quiet and there was a little sitting area we could use for our nightly "sundowner" and nibbles at the head of the stairs overlooking the street before we went out for dinner. From this area you could watch the people and rooves of Little India turn golden as the sun went down. The Hotel was full with a variety of guests. Breakfast included in the price was excellent, in fact much better than the last time we stayed there, and this was taken in the ground floor area. The breakfast was vegetarian and a self-service. Eggs were the main fare with lots of coffee/toast and tea. Walking out to dinner each night was exciting as there was so much to choose from and we had been looking forward to this. The rooms do not have a view, well at least the ones we have used do not. We were charged for water in the fridge i.e. the two bottles that we used, but we soon bought our own from little shops in the area so there was no problem. A cable was given to us so we could use our laptap in the room. When we had trouble with the internet the staff were very helpful and came to help straight away. The rooms and bathrooms are very clean. We love the location and the food in the area and again it proved about a 8 min. walk to the MRT station. There is a lot to explore in Little India as well.

Room Tip: It is best to ask for an upstairs room, these rooms are bigger but if you are only staying one night...

I would not stay anywhere else in Singapore. Wonderful staff, great location with so much brilliant South Indian food around & PERFECT rooms (unless you are after a nice view). I would not change a thing about this place :)

Room Tip: I don't think there'll be much variety between the rooms. I would guess that all rooms are m...
