“Excellent choice for me, as I'm travelling solo & looking for quality & comfort near Orchard with reasonable price tag”
I am staying here at the moment, I specifically chose Superior Room. It is a perfect one for me as at the moment I am travelling solo. I am not expecting a huge room as I won't stay in the room all day -- knowing that this is Singapore, I will be busy being out and about -- but I am surprised with how convenient my room is. For its price, I think it's great.
First of all they gave attention to details on room access: your room card gave you access to your Floor (you won't get there without swiping it in the lift), you also only need to swipe card to unlock room door - it also works as a key to turn on all room's power & electronic functionality.
The hall on each floor provides hot/cold water dispenser --- my room has no fridge but cofee & tea facilities provided. You've got no milk... it's creamer only, to come with your coffee & tea, but this is what it is in this part of the world -- I got the same thing when I stayed in Club room at Sheraton Imperial & The Westin Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia). Also when staying in Novotel Bogor & Club Suite at Mulia Hotel Jakarta.
The furnishing has a very strong Scandinavian/Swedish style: simple but with high-end appliance & finishing (exactly what I want & love!). TV is flat screen, big, and mounted on wall. Safety Box is big, laptop sized... so excellent for me. It is mounted in the alcove underneath the bed, side by side with luggage space which take the whole length of the bed, is 'deep' & wide enough that it can keep 1 luggage, 1 laptop bag, 1 set of shoes... and above it at the end of bed (by the wall) I even got a special space to put my hand bag! -- brilliant space management.... The alcove, the awning above the bathroom & room are all having an extra hidden lighting, the ceiling is high... this is not a standard designed room.
The bathroom is quite spacious for me - excellent rain shower, and another type of detachable shower with rail also provided for the ones who don't like rain shower (for the ladies?). Enough space for toiletteries, plenty of towels on towel rail/shelve above a high-end toilet cistern. All glass walled - including the sliding door, which give spacious feeling.
Almost the whole length of room's hallway is with floor-to-ceiling mirror, another part is wooden panel with two separate hook to hang your coat & other clothing.
The work space is spacious enough for laptop-coffee cup-phone-google tab etc. with all the power outlets, it is in between my bathroom glass wall and my bed.
The other side of the bed I even have my reading corner, by the tall window, with enough space for my books & coffee cup.
They provide sleepers & toothbrush set and a clear glass. Also shampoo & soap -- not substandard ones.
The whole room functionality can be controlled by Google pad (android) provided in the room, and WiFi is free for 1 device at a time (which I think is reasonable enough).
All floors are non-smoking, which is very good for me!!
I like what they've done so far.... I think for the price we pay, people really should not complain! For the people who knew how much a room in a brand new hotel with such facilities & high-end furnishing located near Orchard road could cost, they shouldn't complain with what they get, paying less than $200 a night here. And If willing to pay more, we can choose their Executive room/Suite for more space, facilities & special service such as afternoon turn down etc.... Or else should be willing to part with $400+ to get all the extras that a place like The Hyatt Orchard Rd. can offer :-)
If you are a solo traveller, choose Superior Room. If you are a family of three, choose Executive R...
