“Tiny Room but great price!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 29, 2013

So if you plan to travel to Singapore on a very basic budget and yet do not wish to stay in a hostel, this is a great option. While it is value for money (since Singapore Hotel prices are sky rocketing) the rooms were tiny and awkwardly designed.
The loo was the biggest turn off, since they had a half semi frosted glass door in front of the freaking pot! The wash basin was outside in the room.
The rooms however we neat, and since its a relatively new hotel, it is maintained well. The aircon is very cold and u get the aircon air from outside as well in the room, even if you switch off the one in the room.

The location is the star!! With delicious eateries to suit all budgets, pubs & dessert cafes. Also you can walk down to 112 Katong Mall. You would need to take a cab to get to the nearest MRT however there are enough bus stops to get you around town.

The PROS -
• LOCATION - Joo Chiat, non commercial but awesome!!
• Friendly Staff
• Price
• Well Maintained
• Bus and Taxi available

THE CONs
• Wall are thin, you can hear everything!! and hence others can hear you too.
• The awkward loo design
• Room is very tiny
• no mrt near by

What you see on the website is what you will be experiencing.

The moment you step into the lobby, you will smell the sweet scent. The staffs are very approachable and friendly. They are always willing to lend out their helping hands. I was served by Faizal, a very impressive Front Office Associate. He allocated a quiet room for me because we need to have a good rest the night before our long run at nearby East Coast Park. And each time you pass by the front desk, the staffs will greet you. I am very impressed by their service attitude.

The layout of the lobby is almost as good as a 5 star hotel. We love the modern furnishing... this includes the dark bathroom tiles and new basin in our room. The bed in our room was very comfortable and the room comes with a safe to store your valuables. The bed sheet on our bed was pure white and cleaned... I could see the fold lines. Although given with a small window with natural light, it works just nice.

Just opposite the hotel on the right, serve very nice local Chinese food or to Dunman Food Centre. If you turn left from the hotel lobby, try locating the famous Sin Heng Bak Ku Teh located at 439 Joo Chiat Road next to the Joo Chiat Community Centre. Staying at Venue hotel, you will never go hungry because if you walk down ahead towards East Coast Road, you will find 113 Katong Mall where many global brand of eateries are located at the mall or along the shophouses.

I will be back in another 3 weeks and thank you for the kind hospitality.

Spent 1 night at the Venue Hotel, we were looking for something relatively near the airport, clean and quiet.

+We asked for a quiet top floor room, we got a room on the 4th floor (last) as requested.
+Courteous staff
+Very Clean
+/- Relatively quiet, heard lot's of people talking outside, even at the 4th floor. With earplugs was fine.
-small

Overall: We would definitely recommend the hotel if you don't intend to spend too much time in it, since it's really small.

It is a really special design in the room, and my bf and I really love it so much.. It is value in price .. A little bit noisy from the outside but still can have a good sleep too .. It is not a big disturbance. The staff of reception also friendly , service is really not bad .

MRT station is far, but commuting with bus is not a problem. Coffee shop is right opposite, food court is near. Good choice of accommodation for travelers on a budget. I had room without window. Can't hear noise from street but room door is not sound-proof. Complementary drinking water is provided. Towels are clean and changed daily.
Poor leveling of toilet floor causes water to flow to other part of bathroom.

We stayed here for a couple of nights on our way to Malaysia. The staff were helpful and friendly. The decor was modern. The main drawback was a lack of separation from the shower to the rest of the bathroom, meaning the whole floor was wet for several hours afterwards. I found the location interesting and relatively easy to get to from the Airport and to public transport. I would probably pay a little bit more to stay somewhere more central if travelling to Singapore another time.

The staff at the Venue are polite, smiley and try to be helpful, the room rate is reasonable by S'pore standards, and the area has lots of local colour and little eateries. Unfortunately that doesn't compensate for our 2 sleepless nights there mid-June due to the incessant racket from traffic & people in Joo Chiat Rd and loud music from bars on that road.

Choosing a room in this hotel means a compromise between space and noise: The standard "superior" rooms at the back are quieter but minuscule, practically windowless and claustrophobic; the "deluxe" ones at the front are not as tiny but noisy as hell since they're next to the road.

We were in a deluxe (room 220) fronting the road that had windows with wooden shutters BUT they could not be opened because they were encased in a plexiglass screen that was nailed down. So there's no natural light in the room. There's no double glazing so we could hear constant traffic noise, people talking on the sidewalk below and karaoke music long into the night. Unless you're zonked out from alcohol imbibed at one of the many bars on the road, there's no way you can fall asleep.

On the plus side, the wi-fi works. Aircon, hairdryer, kettle & safety deposit box work. Water pressure is ok. Basic toiletries, instant coffee & teabags are included. Towels are a decent size. However, the shower cubicle has a door but no sunken floor so the water spills out into the rest of the bathroom. The hotel's configuration--a warren of small, mostly windowless, rooms done in garish colours--seems more suited to hourly rental by couples who wouldn't be bothered by noise and lack of natural light! i.e. a "love hotel".

I booked the Venue to be near friends living in the area and it's heritage shophouse character made it more attractive than a nondescript chain hotel. But next time I want to stay in this neighborhood I'll go for the character-less Grand Mercure Roxy or similar which is more likely to provide a good night's sleep.

Room Tip: Pls don't stay in room 220 unless on an hourly basis!
