We always take our visitors to the Tea Chapter and they love it. It’s in an old shop house in Chinatown. You go up a wooden staircase and leave your shoes in a cupboard at the top. You then have a choice of 3 types of table – Japanese (sitting on the floor), Korean low tables or Chinese (normal tables!). You can even have tea at the same table as Queen Elizabeth did many years ago - for a surcharge!
Once you’ve chosen your tea, you’ll be given an interesting tea-making demonstration. After that, you can happily while away a couple of hours relaxing and savouring your tea. You can order small snacks if you’re peckish. The tea egg is an interesting one (!) and the tea cookies are especially nice. If you’re inspired to re-create the experience at home, there’s a shop downstairs where you can buy tea and tea-making paraphernalia. When the super-modern, super-busy city is getting to you, this place is a great antidote.
