We walked from the Esplanade over to the opposite side where the custom house was. Very pleasant walk in the evening. We had time to eat Satay before walking back to the water front before 8pm, to view the light show from across the Esplanade. Wonderful. Then we continued walking on the water front to the Merlion.
If you are looking to entertain out of station guests then head to the esplanade for dinner. The promenade is a lovely place to take a leisurly stroll with the family. Refer to the events calender to figure out what entertainment shows are on at the time and you can head out to the theaters later in the evening. Plan to have dinner on the promenade around 8pm because the Marina Bay Sands has a laser show on at that time and you can get an unobstructed view of the lights on the water. Finish off at the Max Brener chocolate bar for an unforgettable evening with the family.
The Esplanade theatre is a very contempary place to visit. It seems that every large Asian city now has a distinctive place and so does Singapore. There are various cafes and shops to visit inside. Did not go to any theatres because we were there during the day. Go up to the rooftop terrace that has a great view of Singapore accross the river. There is a walkway that is nice to walk along the river to the bridge to the city that is charming. Or sit in the outdoor ampatheatre and have a drink and relax with the locals and other tourists.
We went there late one saturday night, looking for a quiet stroll along the bayfront. It proved to be a terrible idea as there was an amateur live band playing just outside the theatres. The noise was horrifying, honestly there should be some quality control. It is an arty farty area after all.
The place boasts of a hype shopping mall, park, lush greens and provides a great view of the Marina Bay Sands Hotel & the Singapore Flyer alongside with it. The open air theatre provides a backdrop of the river with river taxis boarded by guests & tourists alike passes by, A sure stop is the Merlion statue, which stands high & proud & surrounded by colorful lights. We chose to go there around late afternoon to catch the sunset on it & to see the glaring play of lights from bridge to The Fullerton Hotel down to the Merlion, from there you can also marvel at the beautiful lighted dome of the Esplanade shining like little diamonds over gold roof - such a sight to behold..
