“Nice little hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 30, 2013

We choose this hotel because it's located on Jalan Besar, which we already familiar with the neighbourhood.
Booked an executive room, not bad, clean, but has few window problems, owner should check them, somehow the outer window's hook/lock are not fitted to their holes.

Fast check in and check out process.
No concierge, so better prepare yourself to bring your luggages yourself.
If you a light sleeper, ask in advance for rooms at the back, this hotel doesn't have a soundproof window.
there is an elevator, thanks God... :)
Across the hotel, you can find Lavender food centre, open 24 hrs, lots of food choices, 7/11 and bus stop.

prepare to bring spare clothes hangers, because it doesn't have commode or drawers to put clothes, and the bathroom only have 1 towel hanger, which if you stay with your partner, you won't have place to hang your other towel.
Very nice and polite cleaning lady. she replaces our towels everyday, altough we didn't ask.

room a bit gloomy with gray curtain, you can open the windows for fresh air in the morning.
shower is great, water pressure is good. Coffee and tea sachets are provided too along with a kettle, also shower caps, etc and a small safe.

we didn't book the room with breakfast, because breakfast can be found accross the street .
The hotel provides shampoo and liquid soap on a dispenser, but doesn't put information which is soap or shampoo, probably 2 in 1 ?

Because Jalan Besar is one way, if you travel from Bugis Junction, you have to look for bus number 145 , if I'm not mistaken, on bus stop at Victoria Street far away from Bugis Junction and Bugis Market, around 6-7 stops you can reach bus stop at Hoa Nam building which is across the hotel.

Room Tip: choose rooms on the back.. and higher level.

When i booked i didnt expect too much from the price however the room was large and the bathroom and the bed was fine all well and good but couldnt compensate for the awful smell permeating the place and the fact i could hear my neighbours' conversation and every move. Also bare concrete floors a big letdown. Otherwise better than the previous hotel i stayed in here.

Room Tip: Just dont book here

My husband & I was here with a group of friends for a wedding. So we decided to book 5 rooms for 3days 2nights. All rooms were located on the ground floor because we requested to be together. 3 rooms look exactly the same, small size room, but the other 2 was huge! Imagine how surprise we were because all 5 rooms are the same price. The 2 big rooms can fit at least 3 bag luggage, no problem. Whereas the other 3 small rooms, we can't even put a decent luggage without walking into it. All rooms at ground floor have no window except the toilet window (which is lock). So If you are claustrophobic, sleep upstairs. Toilet is spacious and very clean (so is the rooms) but ventilation need to be improve because there were some fruit fly flying inside the toilet due to dampness. Amenities such as coffee & tea, water, towel, toiletries, safe deposit box, room slippers, hairdryer, hangers and TV is provided. Bed is comfortable and a/c was working perfectly. They also provide facilities for the elderly and handicap. Breakfast was delicious but my husband complain that the coffee was tasteless. It was just black, no coffee aroma. I was not aware about the coffee because I don't drink coffee. :P Other than that, we think the selection was awesome. Oh and Suprette, the hotel restaurant, starts their Happy Hour at 8am. :)

MRT station is 10 minutes walk away. Either you take the train from Lavender Station or Farrer Park Station but Lavender is closer and you can use the short cut through City Sq. Mall. Not to worry about safety at night. Singapore is a very safe place and if you are hungry in the middle of the night, there's a food court & 7-11 that opens 24 hour located opposite the hotel.

Singapore is known for expensive rental with small space. This place is small yet cozy at the same time. It's not like the standard hotel with swimming pool but it does pay lots of attention to detail. Nice interior and decoration. A good concept that gives you the feel of the old colonial time. There are a variety of customers staying in this hotel, from family to couple, business trips to backpackers. Although I'm not too satisfied with the rooms arrangement, I really like the hotel. Service is efficient and well mannered staff. I would come back again.

Room Tip: Opt for rooms upstairs if you are claustrophobic.

Booked an executive room for a two night transit in Singapore. Easy to find from the airport by taxi ($27 including airport and peak-hour surcharge).

Staff were welcoming, check in was quick. Booked the executive room as shown on all the booking sites... expecting a room with windows, but was originally assigned a windowless room with windows only in the bathroom.

Went back to check-in and was told an executive room only means larger size. They could offer me the 'room in the picture' however it would be noisy.

Noisy it was! But the room was larger and brighter. It is a toss up whether I would stay in the darker vs noiser room if I returned to the hotel (the noise problem could easily have been solved by some double glazing, I don't know why the hotel has not invested in this). If I chose the darker room, then probably might as well get a normal rather than executive size.

Also worth noting that the hotel is classified as being 'little India' on most websites, but is in fact about a 10 minute walk away. The food court opposite the hotel is not Indian but Chinese (the food however was excellent there!)

The hotel itself... only negative (apart from the noise) was the slow lift (it really was slow). Everything else was as expected... tasteful restoration (as per the official pictures on the hotel's website), tea/coffee/water supplied, plenty of fresh towels, wi-fi worked perfectly, the bathroom was stocked with basic amenities and had good water pressure. There were a limited number of tv channels, but enough to find something to watch if you had an hour or so to relax.

With such great food across the road there was little temptation to eat at the hotel restaurant, however if you are keen to stay in they were offering breakfast and lunch promotions for hotel guests.

Located between the two Lavender and Farrer Park MRT stations is better Lavender-only one change and the. On the same platform Costs around € 1.50 and takes less than half an hour to get there from the airport. Lavender you need 10 minutes and you go towards Jalan Besar Stadium hotel is a little easier, but quite properly renovated. Was once a Chinese shop house. Rooms are air-conditioned, shower / toilet not. Very friendly staff. Free wifi.

Have been stayed in this hotel several times. Convenient and reasonable price are the advantages. With the wonderful and hospitality stuff, they gave me a call when I rushed to airport and told me they found the money which I forgot to take. Thank you so much!! Will stay in this hotel next time. Also, they offer the comfortable space compare with other hotels in Singapore. Free wifi is also available in every room. It's a renew small hotel, do not except having a luxury room. Good for simple stay. It'd cost you about 25 to 35 Singapore dollars.

Room Tip: Convenient for food and 7-11

Really liked the feel of the hotel, nice kitch, old style. Rooms are small (we had actually been upgraded to a larger room and dread to think how much space we would have had otherwise!) space enough for 2 people and big bags though and we were only there for 1 night anyway. bathroom is fine.
Hotel offers tour booking services, we saved $3 off the Night Safari, well worth it and no hassle at all.
Highlight was breakfast. It really was tasty and no issues with any staff.
Also they let us keep our bags in the luggage room for basically a whole day after our stay as we were flying out in the early hours of the next morning.
Overall a nice little hotel, good location, friendly staff and great breakfast.

Room Tip: Go for a higher room if possible, there's less noise from the street.
