“Nice hotel, reasonable location, good staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 4, 2013

Singapore hotels are very expensive, and the action is all around the marina bay, so basically the key is to get a hotel on a good MRT (subway) location that can easily take you to the marina bay without paying the extortionate hotel prices! At £60/night, the hotel isn't cheap, and the rooms are on the smaller (but not small) side, though typically well equipped for a 3 star hotel. Staff were helpful and friendly, and the hotel has lift, and it is only a few minutes by taxi to the nearest MRT station (costing around S$5, £2.50). The hotel has rustic, vintage feel, though it can come across a little as just lazy interior decorating, but it is nice. Rooms clean and good wifi throughout. So basically a good value hotel, a bit out of town but in a nice area and ideal for sightseeing the city at a reasonable price.

Definitely aiming at shabby chic, and not missing entirely, this hotel is worth investigating for those on a budget.

The rooms are small, no doubt about it, but the space within them is impressively used and they don't feel overly claustrophobic. There are several nice touches squeezed into the space which make the rooms feel well equipped.

The area is what makes the place in my opinion. If you are after five star expat luxury you're in the wrong place. But if you like friendly locals and a bit of integration in your travels, then you've hit gold.

There are several "hawker" centres nearby with lovely staff mixing with exuberant locals, offering culinary delights for those with a sense of adventure. Well situated for larger shopping centres and transport links to most areas of the city seem to be excellent.

The hotel itself offer a good breakfast and lunch menu in it's small but well formed bar / dining area. This is air conditions and offers very fast good wifi. When we were there it seemed to be something of a favourite for local business people and students to catch up for a coffee.

All in all I would certainly recommend the place.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the atrium seemed to be spacier from what I saw.

I was suspicious of this hotel from the start... though the hotel has a nice lobby and the restaurant, the rooms are shockingly small.. if you are not sleeping, it is impossible to live in the room... the room service is non-existent... the hotel is located far (minimum 15 mins walk) from the metro station which is added disincentive.. there is a 24 hour food court opposite to the hotel... there are numerous shady massage parlours and chinese pubs around the hotel - so I would not recommend it for families... little india is very close however....
on the positive front, the hotel offers 3$ discounts on the numerous singapore attractions... still I can't get out of the fact that rooms were so small....

Room Tip: Don't select rooms which are on the road.... make sure AC is cooling properly when you select th...

I have lived and work in Singapore for many years so I know the locality of the hotel well.
My partner and I arrived in Singapore in the early hours on Feb 27. Since our check in time was 2:00pm we decided to take our breakfast at Changi International Airport.
Took the SKY TRAIN to Terminal 3 for a leisurely breakfast at the FOOD COURT.
We then took the MRT to the city. Just hop on the only train at the platform in the airport. After a short ride the train will end at Tanah Merah Station, the doors will open on both sides. Exit from the left to the platform to take the EAST - WEST LINE to the city. Get off at LAVENDER (EW11) the hotel is a good 15 min walk from the station. A taxi ride from the airport will cost about $20.
The lady at the reception was very helpful. She told us that we could only check in at 2:00pm but offered to keep our luggage while we explore the city. She said that we can call her around 12:00 in case a room is ready.
As we knew the city well we took a bus No 65 at the bus stop opposite the hotel to The famous Orchard Road shopping Strip. We finally returned to the hotel at 1:00pm and our room was ready.
The room was a shoe box sized but very clean and neat. The Free WiFi was excellent through out our stay. The bathroom was large and the the hot water shower was consistent and powerful. Toiletries were supplied and replenished daily. There were no windows in the room but there were windows which could be opened in the bathroom,
Loved the locality. There is a 24 hour food hall opposite the hotel. Some of Singapore's famous food stalls are located in that food hall. Do try the Prawn Noodle Stall and the Famous Beef
Noodle stalls. Just look for the long queue in front of the stalls.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms towards the back as the hotel faces the main road. There is only one small lift so av...

....I've briefly stayed at the hotel right next to do this one so I think i can make a relatively objective as well as a relative review of this hotel by all means!

PROS: 1. Efficient and professional service - 24hr as well; 2. Cleanliness everywhere; 3. Compact and tidy overnight hygiene pack; 4. Keyless card operated room entry; 5. Special deal for late check ins; 6. Clean yet slightly expensive cafe downstairs (serving Western dishes to my surprise); 7. Free wifi; 8. Free internet downstairs prior to check in to see check the review for the hotel!!!; 9. foodcourt right opposite; 10. free water bottles; 11. fridge; 12. all this for $100/night (post 11pm check in); 13. soft and plush bed sheets and blankets

CONS: The keyless card entry system does make a rather loud "click" sound on closing which can wake people up in the morning... biggest let down for those who need good sleep

Singapore is not a value for money place for hotels...hostels perhaps, but definitely not hotels....this hotel was a rare finding nevertheless...

I have stayed at numerous hotels worldwide over the decades, and this is my worst in recent memory!

The rooms are tiny and super noisy. The rooms have no real windows - there are just old wood shutters that provide no noise insulation. So all the rooms facing the main road (a busy thoroughfare with traffic late into the night and bright and early in the morning) are very loud. I can usually withstand noise with my ear plugs, but even they failed me at this hotel. Hardly having slept the first night, the next morning, I asked for a room change and got an interior standard room that was even more miniscule than the first one, and with no natural light. (The only window was in the bathroom and it looked out to a claustrophobic interior well.) After further discussion with the front desk, they upgraded me to a "superior" room that faced the sides, which was less noisy. But this so-called superior room was also tiny.

The rooms have no direct natural light. Even the exterior ones have the wood shutters for the bathroom, and there is frosted glass window separating the bathroom and the bedroom, so there is only filtered light at best.

The housekeeper was friendly and nice, but the room was not kept spotless. I booked their bed and breakfast package, and the additional cost was not worth it. The breakfast consisted of a choice of dishes (except for the most expensive ones), plus a regular coffee or tea. Any other coffee or tea (even green tea or mint tea) cost extra, around S$5. The dish itself was small and tasted average.

The location is less than ideal. It's a 10 to 15-minute walk to Little India. If you like walking and don't mind the heat, you can continue the walk to city centre.

The hotel is a very low-cost operation. They don't even provide a tumbler (glass or plastic) in the bathroom for tooth-brushing. The front desk didn't have any and referred us to the restaurant, and the restaurant said they are not part of the hotel and didn't have any and referred us back to the front desk. The staff is young, generally pleasant but inexperienced.

This is supposed to be a "boutique" hotel with good prices and value, and their website pictures evoke nostalgic charms, but do not fall on any of their marketing hype! They should not even sell rooms that provide no sound insulation on a busy street. I would not recommend this hotel at all!

Room Tip: There are no good rooms, all are dark, with little or no natural light. All rooms facing the front...

This is an older hotel with updating, but our room was very basic. Poured concrete floor, no window, almost no storage space or even a bathroom shelf. But it was clean, the AC worked and the bathroom was OK. This is not a room I'd want to stay in--makes you get out and see the sights! No pool or hot tub, needless to say. The hotel staff were helpful and friendly, the hotel restaurant was good (pay $10.00 pp Singapore extra for breakfast). It's right across the street from a great "hawker stand" with multiple local cookeries of various cuisines, and lots of shopping nearby. 2 blocks from Little India temples etc, and 3 long blocks from the MTS subway system. We didn't shop around for other hotels, but this seems to be what you get for $100 USD per night.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the main street.
