“Bric on the Orchard”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 4, 2009

A well-located and well-appointed property near Orchard Street. Perfect surroundings for that extra shopping or dining.
Rooms are large, clean & with modern amenities. The bathrooms are even better and provided with adequate toileteries.
Apart from its array of Restaurants, the place must be remembered by its disco & nightclub "Bric". A very happening party place that locals queue to enter, but, as residents - guests are welcome.
Even a business visit can become memorable due to an evening here.
Good for tourists & business travellers alike.

We have stayed at Marriott on corner of the Orchard and Scotts several times but this time we chose the Grand Hyatt as it is newer and the rate was better. I'm glad we did, the hotel appears to be very new with good facilities. It is located about 100m from the Marriot up Scotts road so it is an short walk to Orchard MRT station and to the best people watching bar in Singapore at the Marriot.

My daughter and I stayed at the Grand Hyatt for 4 nights, we did not have breakfast in the hotel. The room was average size, TV with good channels, NO internet (its available but you will be charged), well-stocked fridge, good AC, shower (no bath tub), you need your room card to go up the lift. There is a lovely swimming pool behind a beautiful park with a jacuzzi. I paid £117 per night for a twin, non-smoking room without breakfast, which was quite pricey. This hotel is in the midst of so many shopping centres, MRT, bus stops, hospital. The taxis are quite popular because they are honest and cheap. Grand Hyatt to the airport will take about 25 mins.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 26, 2009

Stayed at the Grand Hyatt Singapore for 4 nights in the all-suite Grand Wing, on the Club floor. The Grand rooms are 55 square metre suites, but despite a refurbishment 3-4 years ago, the accommodation looks tired. Carpets looked and felt dirty, and the the much-touted Bang & Olufsen televisions produced poor sound. The Grand rooms are good value for the amount of space you get, but they do not feel luxurious or cosy, in my humble opinion. Hanging space is quite limited.

Toiletries need to be of a higher quality and at least of L'Occitane or Molton Brown standard - this is a Grand Hyatt after all, and the shampoo and conditioner smelt and felt like dishwashing detergent. Biggest disappointment of all was the Club lounge on the 20th floor, whose breakfast spread was the poorest I had ever seen at any Hyatt or chain-hotel's Club/Exec floor. When I brought this to the manager's attention, he admitted that space constraints prevented them from putting out a larger spread, but I suspect it's cost-related. There was plenty of space in the lounge where additional platters or chafing dishes could have been installed.

Loved the new Damai Spa - amazing treatment rooms, designed around Japanese Zen gardens and bubbling streams. It was so tranquil that I fell asleep, helped by the hands of my massage therapist. The gym was pretty well equipped too. Pool area nice and tropical, but felt very exposed, being surrounded by buildings on all sides. I felt so vulnerable in my bathing shorts!

For the prices charged by the Grand Hyatt, I'd look elsewhere. Unless you absolutely insist on staying in the Orchard/Scotts Road area, there are far better hotels in Marina Square (the Pan Pacific) and Raffles City (the Swissotel Stamford).
