“Convenient location but doesn't blow your socks off!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 15, 2013

If you are looking for a hotel that is close to the center of the city, shopping, restaurants and the MRT, then the Carlton may be an option worth considering. It's right across the street from the Raffles Hotel.

The Carlton consists of two main guest wings. The bedrooms in the newer wing are better - I've stayed in both. I would not go back to the Carlton unless I had a confirmed room in the new wing. It seems to be a "transit" hotel with a lot of guests staying one or two nights only.

The Mosaic Restaurant is inconsistent in terms of food quality and temperature of the buffet. Some mornings/evenings the hot dishes are barely warm. If you are concerned over food hygiene - go to the buffet breakfast early and before the crowd. The hygiene standards of the hotel are good (A Certification), but I've regularly seen guests cutting loafs of bread with their bare hands and carelessly putting severing tongs back so the handles touch the food.

The Gravity Bar is expensive and the live music drowns out any chance of a decent conversation.

Quality of service is mixed. Some staff are very guest focused and spot on with helping and serving you. But I found the majority of managers and service staff just seem the be their to a job, rather than making sure you have a first class experience.

The hotel has a club lounge for higher priced rooms. Their does not seem to be an associated access scheme in place to attract the average repeat customer.

Pool area is okay but again try to use early as the sun loungers fill up fast. Their is a pool bar but it's not manned all the time. You have a call for service.

I've stayed at better hotels in Singapore at a lower cost. Something seems to be missing here - I can't say that I was really valued as a customer which is disappointing.

Great location, I would definitely stay there again for this reason alone.

Buffet breakfast had plenty of variety for all tastes.
Staff in the foyer unfortunately, were unhelpful and no friendly smile or welcome as you make eye contact.

Singapore is a wonderful place for a holiday, Enjoy!!

We stayed for the Chinese Lunar New Year break. Room was clean and housekeeping was helpful etc. Disappointed with the buffet breakfast. It was like a mad rush for the food and there was no good choices. Shower in the old wing was terrible like trickling water and not even consider a shower. Not really a star quality hotel but it's convenient. Room with no wifi? This is not what you would expect for most hotels in Singapore now a days.

This reminds a lot of big hotels in the USA, check-in is more like a supermarket than a hotel. Staff have no sincerity and never look like they enjoy their job. That said location is excellent, and the prices are reasonable considering the competition.

Good location, rooms very comfortable, classy bathrooms, cost effective

Only gripe was while wifi is free in public areas (and quite good), it was not available for free in rooms (surcharge).

Otherwise can't fault the place, service was excellent, buffet breakfast top notch

Carlton hotel was a very good choice for location and convenience to many attractions including the Raffles hotel across the street, Orchard rd. for lots of shopping, Clark Quay for dining and the Hop On Hop off bus for touring the city. Staff was helpful and the Buffet Breakfast was great, again, highly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Book a room in the newer tower which has free Wi-Fi

Very nice hotel, great location close to MRT across road from shopping centre and chijmes where there are many restaurants to choose from, when making your resevervation try opt for the premier wing, we got the old wing which there is nothing to complain about but is in need of an upgrade, no wifi in rooms should be looked at as hotel lobby is always crammed with people... would stay here again... Gravity bar is friendly and a nice place to have a wind down drink after a busy day..
