4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 week ago NEW

We have been staying here for the past one year and have always loved our stay. Of course the first visit was quite unpleasant due to old facility issue but when I had raised my concern the staff and the manager settled it for us by switching our room to another higher category. By our 2nd stay all was fixed with our favourite room and each time I visit them, they have always been fantastic. A friendly and charming lot of people under the eagle's eye (Kasturi, she never fails to catch the slightest detail and I simply love her immediate responses to us). We are just waiting for the renovations to pull through as we would love to have this as our "home away from home". I hope they still preserve the old charm especially the artefacts over the bar. Don't be fooled by the other critics. It's only by people who cannot commit to regulations. I've personally never had an issue with this hotel at all. In fact, we have been staying here too often by blessing and will continue our patronage!

This place is well located and doesn't pretend to be anything more than it is. A little old, but it may be the style. The price is good and therefore the value pretty good, especially for Singapore. Rooms were big and everything functioned.

Very old facilities they have.
We were given a room whereby the room door was faulty.
This is my first time that the door couldn't be open after trying so many times. They have only 3 levels and it was not crowded at that point time. But it took them 20 mins just to attend to us.
We were given another room but their old hair dryer was spolit and it took close to 40mins just to delivery the hair dryer. Yes, this is how efficient they are! Be prepare to be kept awake at night by the noise surrounding the room.

Check out was unpleasant as well. We were served by 2 rude & Indian staffs (one of them is the manager) this isn't forgivable for the service received from a manager. You guys need to do something with the slow and poor service. We could've book a much better hotel with the price we paid.. What a 'great' experience I have. First in my countless stay cation in sg. Worst experience ever

Dear Ms Pearlyn K,
Thank you for your feedback on your experience. We do apologize to have caused such a bad experience on your stay, however, we would also like to address that after explaining all the hotel policies, it is definitely disheartening to see guests breaking all regulations. As much as we would like to see all guests enjoying their stay, the hotel has some policies to adhere to for the benefit of all guests staying in the hotel. We have to ensure that the safety as well as the satisfaction of all guests are met. On that note, we had received several complaints on the noise level arising from your room due to a party that was held within the rooms. A hotel is meant for an accommodation purpose and we fully understand that this stay was your staycation. However, we had realized that there were more than the registered number of guests in the room and the hotel had to charge for any additional occupancy, which is although a normal practice, may not have be in your favour, resulting in any undesirable experience. Once again, we really apologize on the inconvenience caused and hope that you would understand our role too. As for the highlight on the aged facilities, we hope to do better with the proposed renovation.

Exterior look of hotel looks nice and classic, however the interior of the room was bad! Room looks old, carpet was smelly, weird noisy sound at night that was disturbing my sleep! Lousy service, requested for room service and the staff came only 45 minutes later! 2 indian ladies at the check in counter were rude, very bad customer service! _|_ Not recommended, with this pricing or a little bit more there's better hotels everywhere.

Dear Mr Williams G,
We are truly sorry for a negative experience on your stay. We do understand on your concern of the facilities, and would definitely agree on a makeover of the hotel. Our proposed renovation would be well deserved in time to come. May we suggest you to give us more details so that your concern can be properly addressed. You may feel free to drop us an email at info@theduxton.sg and we will revert to you at the earliest.
Thanks and Best Regards

There are 3 good things about this hotel. It's location near China Town and close to the cbd and many good eateries (including Japanese, Korean and others); the staff who are very helpful and obliging; and the foyer and lounge area which have a charming ambience reminiscent of times past. But after that the negatives that you find in other Trip Advisor reviews are valid. The hotel is long overdue for a comprehensive upgrade. In the upstairs area you will immediately find a musty odour and notice that the carpet is worn out and stained. The decor is dated and worn and the bathrooms need upgrading. Anyone with mobility problems would have difficulty using the shower in our room where it is necessary to clamber over the edge of the bathtub. However the potential is there to return this building to a deserved reputation as a boutique hotel. There are myriad signs that the building's owners have taken the parsimonious route to repair and maintenance. This must make it difficult for cleaning and other staff trying to present the rooms at their best. Front rooms opposite the bars would I think be unacceptably noisy on some nights. We might consider making a short stay again due to location but we will check out alternatives first.

Room Tip: The rooms facing the night bars across the road on Duxton Road must be subject to unacceptably high...

I really, really want to like this hotel and that's why I came back after my first visit. Unfortunately this trip was pretty problematic. The location is great - close to Raffles Place and Marina and all my business meetings, with a good selection of eateries nearby. Unfortunately, I just can't like it. My stay was dire. Although I liked my room (very spacious), nothing in it worked, which was a downer. The phone did not work (they replaced it). The SHOWER did not work! And I had to wait about an hour while a workman changed the taps so they would work. But worst, there is no soundproofing on the windows so the noise from outside (all those convenient eateries also include a bunch of very, very noisy pubs with live music ongoing past midnight and shouting etc). Staff offered to move me (on my second night, after getting pretty much no sleep on the first night) to a back facing room - which seemed great until I saw the room - tiny, overlooking a wall with no seats and no table or desk, thus impossible to work. So I purchased ear-plugs and survived one more night in the noisy but at least well appointed room (which was what I had booked). On the bright side, the internet was fine (except you can only attach two devices, so I had to strategically choose which of my 4 to use) but it did require signing in every time you connected (annoying and entirely preventable with some decent software). The cafe was mainly good - I had a great dinner in there which i really like, so had the same thing for lunch the next day and it came out different... which was not so good! Anyway - it's small, it's quirky and lots of stuff does not work. If you are on holiday it would probably be just fine. When you are trying to work, have phone conference calls and feel the need to arrive at meetings clean - less great.

Room Tip: If you want to get any sleep, choose a room facing away from the road.

First thoughts, looking very tired in places, net curtains could have done with a wash and a few threadbare carpets. Rooms had a bit of a must smell but the beds themselves where clean and comfortable. Staff where friendly but one in particular looked either bored or not happy in her work. Cafe attached, excellent coffee and food and the staff very friendly and welcoming. Overall, we would stay again as the position was perfect.

Room Tip: The hotel is right opposite some bars, at weekends can be loud and the bar in the hotel at weekends...
