Stayed at the Allson on Singapore stopover on the way to Australia and on the way back.
On arrival at 8am we were received by surly, unhelpful reception staff. We were told to come back at 10am and given a voucher for a free tea or coffee at the buffet restaurant. After availing ourselves of the freebie we still had 90 mins to kill so went for a walk.
Arriving back at 10am we went back to reception and asked if our room was ready "no,no not ready yet, come back later" I explained that I had been told our room would be available at 10am so grudgingly they checked and lo and behold our room was ready. Our first room was fine and I really can't complain about it exept that the Singapore stopover rep rang us at 8.15am to ask us to meet with him after breakfast.
Then the restaurant rang us at 8.50am to talk us into going down for the buffet breakfast at half price. We had ordered breakfast to have in the room but decided to take them up on their offer.
Big mistake, I have never seen such an unappetising mish-mash of food and I am not a fussy eater. In the end we just had poached eggs on toast at 15 dollars each which is what we had ordered in the first place and would have been cheaper in the room.
Then it was off to meet the rep to find out what was so important that he had to ring us at 8.15am. He told us what time the coach would be picking us up the next day! and tried to sell us some excursions, which of course was the real reason we were there.
After a visit to KFC (beware, if you order a "meal" it doesn't come with chips, you have to order them seperately !!??) we found that we couldn't get into our room, I went to reception and explained our predicament, they looked at me as if I was stupid, fiddled with the key card and sent me back to try it again.
No joy, back to reception, more looks of disdain. This time they sent the manager up to try the keycard and show me what an idiot I was. I was highly delighted when after many attempts he had to admit it didn't work and called for the engineer.
We ate our cold KFC and waited for the engineer, who fixed the door lock but then the electricity didn't work.
We waited for the second engineer. Eventually we had power and were able to get into our room but it was too late to go out by then anyway.
Our second room, on the return journey was on the 7th floor and was a twin smoking room, they said it was all they had. As soon as the lift doors opened the stink hit us, it was absolutely vile. If I had known how bad it was going to be I would never have accepted the room.
The room itself was old and not at all like the first one, badly in need of refurbishment and fumigating. We were called in the morning again by the rep just before 9am. We decided to give the breakfast a miss.
On checkout, reception staff weren't too bad. The airport transfer coach was about 30 mins late.
All in all, we would not stay at the Allson again.
