“Value for money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 7, 2013

With SIngapore hotel prices being high, this is a very good alternative. Located next to the river it is in a good surrounding with plenty of good restaurants within 5-10 min walk. Personally I don't like the "Industry design" of the hotel but I am sure others do. The Gym is small but very good, and the pool is located nicely on a middle level roof top next to the hotel. BReakfast is ok but not great.

Adding this POSITIVE review for Gallery, since I read bad reviews Before booking, and was apprehensive about the (1) staff, (2) charges, (3) location and (4) amenties. Instead I was VERY HAPPY w my stay.
So... (1) Unlike a few reviews that said staff were uncaring, I was greeted with SMILING staff who let us check-in Early (for FREE), and also did not charge ME for an extra child (ie, did NOT make us pay for an extra bed since we didn't need it). And, the concierge went out of his way to help us w luggage, explain unique controls in the room, and find Singapore activities to do (even if some were 'free' for us and so no-commission for him).
(2) Even though the Gallery is not on the "SIA HopOn-HopOff" bus-path nor in front of the MRT, the concierge showed us the shortcut of how to go over the bridge in the back to get to the Miramar Hotel (which has an SIA, and other non-cheap HopOn busses) about 5 min walk. The location was also convenient for getting a quick and LOW-COST grab of food as a 7-11 is across the street.
(3) Regarding amenities and atmosphere and size, the room seemed BIG (compared to European hotels), the atmosphere was like a 4-star hotel (not too stuffy but not at all ugly), and WOW on the amenties (mine had free room-mini-bar, Very Generous TOILETRY kit w a nail file, shaver, toothbrush), plus free WiFi, pool, gym, and mini-fridge. GREAT Price for GREAT Accommodations. Would stay here again if I was lucky enough to visit Singapore again.

Room Tip: Request "non-smoking FLOOR" along w non-smoking room; Check if free-mini-bar is included i...

Firstly, if your looking to stay in Clarke Quay, keep in mind that this hotel is a 15minute walk from the quay and train station. There are a few bars and restaurants in the local area which are nice.

Having seen the pictures online I was expecting modern and stylish, however the hotel itself is very dated considering it wasn't built too long ago (replacing those tacky carpets and a lick of paint would be nice).

Having paid the total room rate when checking in, I was disappointed when reception advised me upon check out there would be a further fee simply because the hotel had miscalculated the price.

Lastly, beware of the additional service charge (approx 10%) which was not mentioned when making the booking.

I paid $220/night + service charges and overall I hoped for something a little nicer for the price..

We stayed 4 nights and it was excellent - right by the river and near all these nice restaurants and bars. The service was very friendly and we did like the extensive breakfast. The room was big and very modern. When we checked-out we stored our bags at the lobby on our return in the evening to pick them up where offered to have a shower - what a service.
There is also a very nice restaurant, pool , etc.

IKEA inspired dorm rooms. We stayed on 6th. floor and the hallway was stinky, carpet dirty and hallway could use a coat of fresh paint. The hotel does make the most out of the perhaps 16 sq. m. rooms: tv., small airplane sized bathrooms, albeit well-equipped: shampoo, Q-tips, etc., but this a totaly utilitarian room, not one you would want to hang out in, but good enough to survive your stay. A 15 to 20 minute walk to nearest Metro station, otherwise lovely to walk alongside river. I would personal pay a bit more in this otherwise expensive city to enjoy my stay more.

This hotel is very nice, well located and very friendly staff. I stayed 2 nights and would have loved to stay longer. I enjoyed the room, nice and well equipped.
However it is far from a MRT station so you can take a taxi which are quite cheap. Or they have a shuttle service to go on Orchard road and other destinations.

Was put up at the Gallery Hotel a couple of times for business. Never stayed more than 2 nights, but was more than enough to gain a wholesome experience of the hotel. All in all, it was excellent. Service, breakfast, room size, bed quality, cleanliness and toilet were all of very high quality. Not forgetting the free internet in the room.

The only downside, in my opinion, is the location. Not very convenient to access bus or train. Far from the usual tourist spots, and the only eateries surrounding the area are on the expensive side. The atmosphere at night seems pretty lively, lots of bars and el fresco dining places. But if you are on a budget, you won't be able to find any sort of "affordable" food within walking distance.

Conclusion:

4/5. If not for the location and the lack of eatery options, this hotel would have gotten a 5 from me. In terms of the hotel fundamentals, The Gallery definitely delivers.
