My boyfriend and I stayed at the Royal Plaza on Scotts for 4 nights. I booked though expedia.com.au, who gave us an excellent rate.

Check in was quick and easy. Room was excellent, room was large with heaps of space. Huge TV with excellent channels, free internet and mini bar was also free and replenished everyday (except ours was not on our last day).

Pool was awesome and gym was standard. Hotel also has a funky bar on level 2.

Location was awesome right next to Orchard rd, close to heaps of shopping centres and places to eat.

I also requested a late checkout of 2pm and they gave it to us for free.

Loved this hotel. Would stay here again.

We booked directly through the hotel website where we found a better rate compared to other asian hotel reservation websites (although there are times you can catch great deals on wotif or asiatravel). We arrived late as we were only on transit in Singapore. We were surprised to be upgraded to what appeared like the presidential suite. It was a huuggeeee suite! The bathroom had a jacuzzi and a separate rain-shower. The sink was as wide as the reception counter in the lobby (no kidding). Walk-in wardrobe, 2 huge lcd tvs (one in living room one in bedroom), a kitchen, a 10-seater dining table, a separate living room, a separate office/work room, a huge foyer, etc etc etc. Needless to say, it was impressive. Too bad we were booked for only a night. Free broadband internet, free drinks from the minibar. Hotel located on scotts road which is perpendicular to orchard road, Next door is dfs, a few buildings down is isetan department store, diagonally across is tangs department store. Centrally located hotel. We have been back to the hotel a few more times after, and it has always been a pleasant stay, even without the upgrade. Recommend this hotel to everyone.

We picked the Royal Plaza for it’s location at the top end of Orchard Road and proximity to the shops and MRT.

Check was pretty quick and our bags arrived in the room promptly, although the bell boy looked slightly flummoxed by what to do with two scruffy rucksacks! The concierge was very helpful.

Our room was on the 10th floor and overlooked the swimming pool which is actually on top of the shopping mall next door. There was no real street noise, surprising given how busy it is just there. The room wasn’t huge but was big enough. Free mini bar was a nice touch, especially given how much beer costs in Singapore. Everything was very clean. The shower was superb.

Breakfast was the best I’ve had in a hotel, there was a large selection which was both local and western and a constant flow of tea and coffee.

The swimming pool wasn’t very big, when we used it there was no one else there, but was pleasant if a little overlooked.

We had a really lovely 4 nights at the Royal Plaza.

The Royal Plaza has a great location being on the junction of Scotts Road and Orchard Road. If shopping is your thing then this could be the hotel for you. By prior arrangement the hotel agreed to let us leave some baggage with them whilst we went to Malaysia for 4 days. The concierge were very helpful and the check in was smooth. As there were 3 of us we needed an extra bed for our son. This took up a significant amount of the free space in the room. The room, a deluxe, is ideal for a couple but not a family of three. The bathroom was lovely, small and functional. Be aware that many rooms only have a shower and not a bath. On the negative side we found the free mini-bar a bit of a con. You get 4 soft drinks and 2 Tiger beers, just adding a couple of half bottles of wine would have made a difference. My advice would be don’t bother with the free mini bar and buy what you want at the 7-11 across the road, this will probably significantly reduce the room charge. The pool area was also a bit of a let down, there is a massive bar there but it is never manned, all they need to do is put a small fridge in the shaded area and fill it with bottled water. This would make ordering drinks less troublesome and allow you to quench your thirst without a half hour delay. The gym was advertised as state-of-the-art, it wasn’t. They had done the old trick with mirrors to male it look twice the size, but the equipment on offer was limited and not of particularly good quality. The entrance foyer is spectacular, ornately decorated and at night with all the candles lit looks lovely. The bar areas are also very nice and the staff are very attentive, though again they have so many different promotions on drinks that it is very easy to get confused, this includes the staff. Breakfast was included in the price and was very good with an excellent choice of western and eastern menus on offer. All in all the Royal Plaza is a good hotel to stay in, the deluxe rooms are not suitable for families and the pool and gym could do with upgrading but our experience there was generally a pleasant one.

Royal Plaza on Scotts in centrally located to everything you need in Singapore. Orchard Road is about a 2 minute walk, and most shopping centres are within walking distance.

When we arrived the receptionist asked us if we wanted to upgrade our room for an extra S$30 per night, which included a bigger suite, free mini bar, and breakfast. We went for the upgrade and weren't disappointed. The suite was a good size, the breakfast was excellent, and the free mini bar was well utilized!

The concierge were really helpful. They responded to our every request, no matter how obscure. Nothing was a problem for these guys. We saw an advertisement for a theatre production of The King & I, and asked concierge if they could give us some information about it. No problem at all, they downloaded all the info from the internet, then gave me exact instructions on where the nearest booking agent was located. One day we even asked them where a pet shop was so we could buy a goldfish for our friends fish pond, and they gave us a number of pet shop locations.

One word of warning for smokers though - the Royal Plaza is a 100% non-smoking hotel. If you light up inside the hotel they will give you a S$300 cleaning bill. This was not an issue for us as we are non-smokers, however this was not pointed out to us when we made the booking.

I would highly recommend the Royal Plaza on Scotts, and would definitely stay there again.

  • Liked — Location
  • Disliked — The swimming pool was located near the conference centre, so people attending conferences were eating around the pool area. It was quite strange - holiday makers sitting around by the pool, and business people milling around.
