“Hotel for shopping, eating and close to MRT”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 3, 2013

This hotel located in the heart of shopping center Orchard road and Far East Plaza. Around this area we can find almost all kind of food, in restaurant nor food stall. The Orchard MRT is only a few steps away, to reach the other side of Singapore.

this hotel is nice and also has a strategic location because it is located near Orchard Road. The staffs are also friendly. Even though the room is quite small but it is still comfortable. The internet speed is also quite fast.

Nice place to stay . Courteous and helpful staff. Nice rooms, very comfortable bed and nice linen/ doona. lovely bathroom containing both bath and shower. Great for business or leisure stays. Buffet breakfast with good variety.
Very close proximity to Orchard Rd so a good place to stay if you are interested in shopping or good places to eat. Also close to some cheaper shopping centres. Taxis readily available at door step.

The service and hotel were good however the front of the hotel is under construction and ruins the ambiance. Also-you would expect a superior room would have a bathtub . These rooms have no view, no bathtub, terrible swimming pool area- so if this is important there are many other hotels in the same area for the same price with better rooms and amenities. Also, the concierge sent us to one of the worst Indian Restaurants we have ever been to(Song of India) Beware the restaurant referrals!

Room Tip: It was $100 a night to upgrade to a better, club room with breakfast go elsewhere and pay more up f...

My wife and I stayed at the Royal Plaza on Scotts for two nights in April 2013 on our way back to the UK from a couple of weeks in Oz and left feeling thoroughly pleased with our choice.

As always, we negotiated our way to the hotel from the airport via public transport. This was fairly straightforward but did involve a couple of changes on the SMRT system so get a map from the airport and do your homework before setting off. The journey took approximately 45 minutes door to door but worked out to be about £1.20 or something so it's fantastic value (TfL take note). The closest stop is 'Orchard' - alight here and head for the 'Shaw House' exit and it's a two minute walk to the hotel entrance. Be aware that the subway system has a mixture of stairs and escalators (some of which weren't working) so it can be hard work lugging heavy bags up and down particularly when the humidity is about 95% (trust me!).

As you may be aware from other reviews here - the hotel is undergoing some pretty extensive refurbishment works to the exterior of the building at the moment and there is some fairly significant noise as a result. After lugging our bags up a final flight of steps to enter the lobby (a Porter here would have been appreciated) we were pleased to note that the noise had largely disappeared. My wife mentioned the noise to the guy on reception who assured us that it couldn't be heard internally but moved us to a room higher up on the 11th floor just to be sure.

I should say, the lobby area is stunningly presented and provided a welcome contrast to the chaos outside.

The room was excellent, a good size with a huge king-sized bed. My wife is 6 months pregnant and even with her ever-expanding belly we still felt like we were miles apart from each other during the night! The bed was extremely comfortable and was only let down by a duvet with a small rip in it. The room comes complete with some decent extras including free WiFi, a fancy Nespresso coffee machine and a complimentary minibar. In reality, the minibar had a couple of bottles of water, a couple of cans of coke, a couple of beers, a juice and a packet of three Oreo cookies so not anything to get too excited about but a nice touch nonetheless.

The room featured one of those bizarre bathrooms that you often encounter in this part of the world that comes complete with a large picture window through to the main room itself. On the one hand, this allows natural light into the bathroom and means you can watch tv in the bath which is great. It's not so great if you like a bit of privacy whilst using the bathroom for less glamorous functions and after messing about with the blind a few times we just gave up and left it down. Maybe we're just prudes....!

**It's definitely worth noting that the man on reception was as good as his word and we didn't hear a single noise from the refurbishment works during our time in the hotel.**

The location is what drew us initially to the hotel - it is located slap bang in the middle of Orchard Street which served as a great base for a bit of shopping and people watching. The tourist bus that shuttles between the city and the Zoo/ Night Safari stops right outside too which is handy and the proximity of the SMRT station means that darting down to Marina Bay of an evening is easily negotiated.

We rarely opt for breakfast at hotels as experience has taught us that we can generally eat cheaper and better locally, the 313 Somerset shopping centre just down the road had loads of eating options with breakfast at Tratorria Italian Restaurant definitely worth considering.

Overall, I really can't fault the Royal Plaza and would definitely recommend it to anyone new to Singapore. At about £120 a night (without breakfast) this place wasn't the cheapest but compared to many other hotels of comparable rank on Trip Advisor this place is a bargain.

Book with confidence.

Room Tip: Mention the noise at check-in and you may get moved if there's availability. Also, the minibar g...

I have stayed here previously and loved it and it was still good, awesome location, food at the ultra lounge was good, beds are really comfortable, the 8th floor was nice and quiet
Renovations are under way so the only bad point is the entrance was small but not a reason to not stay here! Best location and the only place I would stay in Singapore!

Room Tip: Ask for one in the back as they are renovating the front part of the hotel

I have heard of the great service experience by many people at the Royal Plaza (RP) on Scotts and I was certainly looking to find out for myself during my business trip and stay there last week. It was truly a memorable stay as I felt the warmth, friendliness and passion of the hotel associates who were ever ready to serve. The interactions with associates from the concierge, front desk, Royal Club lounge, housekeeping and F & B restaurant were really outstanding, always ready with a smile and the service spirit of "What can I do for you?"

The club deluxe room's size and facilities were ideal for me as a business person. Location of the hotel is fantastic too due to the proximity to a great range of shops, malls and the MRT. The associates at RP really lived up to its promise on delivery exceptional service experience!

Thank you very much to all the associates that I had the chance to meet at Royal Plaza on Scotts for the Amazing Stay & Fantastic Service received :-) Kudos to all of you and I look forward to be there again on my next trip :-) Best wishes!!!

Room Tip: Ask for the Club Deluxe with access to the Royal Club Lounge and facilities. Ideal for a business tr...
