“Good hotel with centralized hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 14, 2013

This is a hotel located on the Orchid road which is the main shopping hub in Singapore and the prime minister lives just 800m away from the hotel . This hotel is well connected with the metro station and taxi could be availed any time from the stand at the back of the hotel .

The shops in the hotel are really bad in all the terms , need to get some good business to the hotel complex which makes it better for a family to live in the hotel . They have good tourist center they give us good deals on universal studio and so on . They have a free shuttle service to many places .

Room Tip: Break fast is some thing which will not attract the people from India . They should have more of con...

We have done staycations at several hotels in Singapore and this is definitely the worst I have encountered so far.

The worst incident happened during checkout, with the staff we encountered behaving like hooligans and even trying to intimidate us on our way out of the carpark. We had enquired about complimentary parking the night before so as not to be held up in the morning. Even though the two receptionists the night before were not serving anybody, they refused to help us and made us wait for the sole concierge who was serving several other guests. And it was already 10pm at night. We were then told to go down to the carpark to get the serial number of our IU for their registration. We were appalled that the hotel didn't have a simple complimentary ticket system and had to resort to this. What's worse was that it took us over 30 min just to get the registration done, and it was due to the assistance of a helpful bell boy, the only good staff we encountered in this horrid hotel. Otherwise, it might have taken longer.

The drama didn't end there. When we tried to leave the next day, we were stuck at the gantry and had to go back up to the hotel. Again, the receptionists refused to serve us and pointed us to the concierge. After my insistence that we couldn't wait, the manager finally emerged. And he actually chided me for not telling the concierge that I was leaving. Apparently, that's standard procedure on top of the need to register my car. Of course, no one told us that. But the manager insisted that his staff would have told all the guests. The ultimate then happened at the gantry. Even the hotel manager couldn't get the security to open the gantry and a whole string of cars were stuck behind ours. A security personnel finally emerged and tried to intimidate us before we were finally allowed to leave.

The helpful bell boy the night before had explained that the carpark is managed by the shopping centre and the hotel has no purview over it. But that's cold comfort to us. We have been to other hotels that share the carpark with a shopping centre, and we have never seen such an acrimonious relationship.

Apart from this incident, we encountered another case of bad service on our first day at the hotel. We had received a notification telling us about a scheduled fire drill on our arrival. And the notification clearly stated that guests would not be affected. But when we returned from our shopping at about 3.30pm in the afternoon, we were unable to return to our room because the lifts were shut off for the drill. This information was not found anywhere and we had to wait 10 min before the lift was up again. All these while, we were stranded at the lobby with other equally bemused guests.

If the above is not enough to put off potential guests, consider the shopping centre that takes up the first few floors of the hotel. It's so sleazy that a single lady will probably feel unsafe walking through it on your way back to the hotel. And from now till the end of the year, guests have no choice but to walk through the shopping centre. The shopping centre is full of pubs and dodgy-looking massage parlours. It's complete even with a sex toy shop, a rarity in Singapore, making the whole building look like it is straight out of the red light district.

On top of all these, our non-smoking room reeks of cigarette smoke, probably due to the central ventilation system circulating the smoke from elsewhere, and the towels had a musty smell. But the room was spacious and the furniture new, and the sound proofing was not bad, probably the only saving grace for the hotel. But overall, I think the YWCA hostel across the street would probably give much better value for money. This concorde hotel is certainly not worth its 4 star status. At most 2 star.

We booked this hotel due to its close proximity to Orchard Road. Check in was average and although we have requested for high floor we were given Level 4 and once we were handed the keycards pouch, i noticed they have 'downgrade' us from Level 6. Too tired from the delayed flight we just accept it. Lobby was well lit and clean.

However rooms and hallway need some maintenance as you can notice the wallpapers are chipped and old. Even carpets are stained.

We were not given newspaper although we requested. Other than that housekeeping did a good job. The breakfast served was overall ok. Try to go as early as 8am or else go at 10am to avoid queue.

Will be back and hopefully the service will improve!

My spouse and I spent two most enjoyable nights at the Concorde Singapore in late August. After a long flight we were extremely pleased to see that the management had arranged for transportation from the airport to the hotel where we were welcomed by the GM and EAM who made us feel at home right away.
The Premier Executive Suite was spacious and very comfortable. I commented on the huge bed and how comfortable it was to sleep in.
Breakfast in the privacy of the Executive Lounge was a nice touch to start off the day of sightseeing which the management had also so kindly arranged.
Staff of the hotel are very friendly and helpful and were there at your service even before you asked for it.
The hotel is highly recommended whether on business or for leisure.

My wife and I had the pleasure of staying at the Concorde hotel on our recent trip to Singapore from the 29th to 31st of August. There was some renovation work being carried out during our stay but that didn't bother us at all. Our room was upgraded when we arrived, probably because of the renovation work or maybe because it was our 25th wedding anniversary, not to sure but it was a nice surprise. The hotel is in a great spot on Orchard rd, handy to everything. The best part of our stay was the great service and friendliness of the staff who were always ready to help and always had a smile. Credit to them for a job well done.

The best thing about this hotel is its convenient Orchard Road location. As you enter the hotel, the lobby looks nice.

However, stepping out of the elevator to go to my room, I quickly observed that the building needed upkeep. Stains on the zebra carpet in the hallways and rooms also became quickly visible.

Service was average. The front desk was not particularly helpful and the person who came to inventory the refrigerator knocked on my door in spite of the 'Do not Disturb' sign. When I pointed to the sign, he apologized with a smirk on his face.

Overall, an average hotel.

I visited singapore every 2 month to do my medical checkup n normally I stayed in the heart od orchard rd shopping mall plus closer to Mount E, but this time I decided to experience a new hotel as most of the hotels are fully booked or a bit expensive at the time of the booking. Concorde just fit my criteria of hotel, fairly priced(because of the travel agent not from concorde pricing strategy) n minimum 4 star rated(yet it doesn't look like it). The hotel is still under renovation so expect some noises n refurbishment environment, also harder to get taxi during busy period.

The reception is when you will be having some hard times. Most of them have this "9 to 5-im just collecting my pay cheque" attitude. They offer no option to where u, sometimes can choose which room preference, give no explanation on hotel's facilities inc. Breakfast, etc etc even though u paid for it. When they do offer something nice like "we upgraded your room", don't be impressive. Most of the hotels I stay in singapore do this anyway so its not a special treat at all. ALL of the hotels I had stayed ALWAYS give leeway n some leniency for a late check out, be it a 15 minute or an hour. This one? Not a single minute!!! Feels like doing a military service even though this is supposed to be your leisure time.

Another problem I had with concorde is the hygiene n sanitisation. It is no longer an advantage but a MUST for a 4 star rated hotel. One of my habit is inspecting how the hotel's employee do the room service. Try it sometimes, its worth it to see how they really clean up the room. The vacuum cleaner staff always look grumpy when they were cleaning the carpet n even fired back "where is the dirt??? I can't see them" d'ooohhhhh!!!! Of course u can't see them, they are invisible to human eyes most of the time. When they clean your utensils n drinking glass, they just rinse it quickly with running water then wipe them off with a not-so-clean towel. Mind you, I forget to tell, they DO NOT washed their hands after collecting the rubbish bin!!! Talk about Hygiene 101. To their defense, most of the hotel cleaners are doing this habitual practice when cleaning. Not sure whose faults this is, singapore regulation or hotels management for not training them properly.

Concorde internet wi-fi connection is not that good too, on and off connection n not very fast.

Would I recommend this hotel? Maybe not. Be prepared for some nasty surprises n exercise your "forgiveness" heart to the fullest.
