“OK for a short stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 30, 2013

Booked The Copthorne at quite short notice as the price for a club room was on special offer. Everything was just a little past its best. The reception was grand but bland. The staff were nice but didn't exceed expectations. The room was ok but tired and the bathroom a little grubby. The club level staff were friendly but nothing more. The club food and beverages were ok...but you had to ask for anything but wine and the appetisers were boring. The lobby bar service was unfriendly. I'd stay again as most things were 'OK' but I'd look for alternatives.

Room Tip: Go for a river view.

In the Club part of the hotel so plenty of inclusives that make the expenses claim easier.

Daily laundry allowance very useful in the heat and humidity of Singapore.

Right on the river so you do not have to eat at the restaurant (although the buffet was very good) and you can take a stroll down the river towards Clarke Quay and Boat Quay.

Bit of a hike to the nearest MRT if you are getting around that way but taxis are pretty cheap in Singapore.

Room Tip: Rooms on the riverside have a better view.

Dear Dunky4,

Thank you for your good review. It is pleasing to hear of your satisfaction with your Club Room stay experience.

With regards to your slight concern of the hotel accessibility, you would be pleased to know that the Outram Park and Tiong Bahru MRT stations are easily accessible via public buses at the hotel bus stop.

Alternatively, we offer shuttle bus services to Orchard Road and Chinatown for the convenience of our guests. With that, we look forward to welcoming you back again.

This was our second visit to this hotel we were still favourably impressed. The service was excellent, as was the food. We visited the bistro for their excellent seafood laksa after arriving from Sydney. The next morning we enjoyed the buffet breakfast before heading back to the airport. Rooms are comfortable and quiet. It is a lovely spot to stay - on the water.

2 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2013

We stayed at this hotel at the end of our week long holiday and it was very disappointing to end our holiday at a bad hotel.
The only good things about this hotel are the river views (best from the cafe brio) and the front office staff who were efficient at check in (early) and check out.
As for the rest...
1. We were given two adjacent rooms on the 12th floor. The entire floor was supposed to be non smoking. However room 1214 had the smell of smoke which did not go the three days we stayed there in spite of an inonizer which they installed to remove the smell.
2. Indifferent and rude staff- Staff just didnt seem to care- whether it was at the brio cafe, or housekeeping or the concierge....In the hospitality industry, this is the worst kind of evil. We even had staff dump three bottles of water in our hands and say "here is your water, drink how ever much you want!".
3. Rooms- Apart from the smell, there is no evening turn down service. After returning late one evening to a room that was not in order, we called housekeeping. They informed us unless previously requested, there is no evening turn down service. So we requested it for both our rooms. Next day, no evening turn down. We didnt bother calling again...no one ever listens anyway. The phone was not working in one room, they sent someone to repair the phone. When the phone started working, the wifi disappeared. We didnt call back to register a complaint, by this time we didnt want to interact with the sraff at all!
4. Washrooms- Small bathroom area, but to be expected in city hotels. No tub, The stopper at the sink was not working, called housekeeping. The plumber worked on it for 1/2 hr declared it working and left...next time we used it, it was still not working....so called the plumber back!. Accessories were not refilled/replaced on a daily basis. The soap is of very bad quality, I would suggest you carry your own (if you HAVE to stay here), the shampoo and shower gels are ok. Shower caps are not given daily...so remember to dry out your used shower cap to use during your entire stay (haha).Towels though clean are far from what one would expect in a five star hotel. I rechecked with Ryan, the front office manager if the hotel was a five star (its closer to a star with 0 star service standards). He did offer a shift to the 13th floor connecting rooms, but we didnt want twin beds so didnt take the trouble to shift. Also there was no hope of getting any service in this hotel, so why make any effort to pack and unpack!
5. Breakfast- One day we reached at 9.20am, stood in a queue to be seated for 15 minutes. At 9.40, there is no hash browns, no sausages, no bacon and a long queue for the egg counter. So you join yet another queue, plate in hand. Vegetarians (and there were many who we met at the hotel), there are very few options. Maybe the hotel could do a profiling of its customers and adjust the breakfast buffet accordingly. At 10.00 am- a fight breaks out between irate customers and the restaurant manager because of the lack of food (everyone waiting with empty plates in front of empty dishes). At 10.30am they inform you that the breakfast timings are over. After making guests stand in queues for seating, food , eggs, etc....really, you think they could give us time to finish breakfast??
6. Location - The closest MRT was not to far from the hotel. The hotel is on a one way street, so most cab rides tend to get a little more expensive. Also its very difficult to get a cab back from the MRT to the hotel. While staying at this hotel, better to avoid the MRT!
All in all- I do regret making this choice and staying at the Grand Copthorne. The hotel dosent seem to be maintained well, and its staff clearly untrained, unhelpful and even rude.Would suggest that you find another place to stay.

My wife and i were there in december and again in january, when we booked we asked for a river view and that is what we were given 10th floor on the way out and 13th floor on way back a supurb hotel we only had breakfast there but the choice of food was amazing, everybody was very helpful from the front desk to the bellboy i could not fault them i would not hesitate to use them again.

Room Tip: ask for a waterfront view upon booking dont wait until you get there

Upon arriving at midnight while I was trying to deal with the luggage my wife went to speak to the receptionist he just ignored her when I spoke to him while he booked us in he ignored our complaints we had paid for a late checkout and we had it in writing But he would not accept our evidence, luckily the duty manager rectified this problem the next day.
Our accommodation did not reflect the cost of in excess of six hundred dollars per night and did not include breakfast. When I complained I was told to complain to my travel agent not to them we have stayed in Singapore in excess of 20 times and never been treated like this before.
I would not recommend this hotel
