“Could be far better...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 11, 2013

I have stayed at the Swissotel twice over the last year and the experience can certainly be much better.

The check-in, and in general, staff attitude, is quite brusque and 'efficient'. Little warmth please! Early morning arrivals will ask for a room, and if you dont have one ready, be nice and gentle about it! And a smile won't hurt, you are in the hospitality industry.

The rooms are the biggest disappointment. There are several older rooms that are so basic that they could redefine spartan. I believe there are some newer rooms but they really have to like you to give you one of those or a higher floor. The service is inconsistent. One saving grace: the shower temperature setting was automatic and worked to perfection everytime.

Breakfast spread was wide but hardly of any great quality. Quantity over quality clearly triumphs at the Swissotel.

For a high end hotel, this is a disappointment. I stayed on a corporate rate (which isnt cheap!) and clearly there are lots of places you could stay within that budget and within walking distance of the Swissotel. If you can choose where you stay in Singapore next time, choose well!

Room Tip: Ask (Demand) for a newer room on a higher floor.

This is our second time here and as good as the first. Really friendly staff and great rooms with all the comfort. Biggest draw card for us is it's location. Right on City Hall MRT Station so getting around is a breeze plus the great food courts at the top and lower level of the Stamford Plaza Shopping Centre.

Room Tip: WiFi costs here but if you sign up to the Swissotel Club (free), the WiFi is complimentary. Saved us...

The Swissotel Stamford is in the best location in Singapore!

It is within a complex called 'Raffles City' which has Raffles and the Fairmont hotels all interconnected by underground malls and walkways, giving you easy access to heaps of shops and a food hall area underground, including supermarket, underneath these hotels. So much cheaper to eat at the restaurants within this food hall, rather than the hotels. The best coffee we found was located at the bottom of the escalators at the food hall, they had great pastries as well!

The Swissotel also shares 2 pools with the Fairmont on level 8 of the hotel, we'd go there in the morning, it wasn't busy and helped to make up the hours we had spare in the morning due to the time difference between Singapore and Sydney (3 hrs behind, so we were waking up at 5.30am and NOwhere is open for coffee before 10am other than the hotel buffet breakfast at $32SGD for continental and $44 for full hot breakfast....however they offer a very large selection of fruit, bakery items, waffles, cereals and hot items, including a chef - pretty good buffet). There is a fitness gym as well but we didn't quite make it there!

We stayed on the 55th floor in a Harbour View Room and the view is just spectacular (I think the city skyline rivals New York!), not cheap at $260 per night but worth the money. The hotel is modern, rooms are super clean and spacious, beds very comfortable and the hotel is in a great central location. The hotel has 70 floors in total, so try to ask for a room over level 38, not just for the view, but the floors higher than 38 have a separate lift.

There are roaming concierge ladies in the foyer of the Swissotel that were just so helpful with tourist information....you can't miss them they are in pretty long traditional Singaporian dresses.

It is very easy to grab a cab at the hotel's entrance/lobby to anywhere. A taxi to Orchard Road for shopping is $7SGD and a 10 min ride. All the taxis are air-conditioned and all the drivers were very nice, cabs are clean and no one speeds in Singapore. PS apparently chewing gum is illegal in Singapore, no wonder the place is spotless.

Orchard Road has a mall after mall for shopping. The biggest and newest is 'ION', however, we found we walked from one to the next and were surprised to find each mall had the same 'chain' stores and designers, we actually enjoyed going to Wisma Astria which had some different stores and felt a little more 'local' which was nice for a change (lowest level had a shoe store 'Pretty Fit' for cheap nice shoes). One thing with all the malls is the higher you go the more expensive the shops....we often found ourselves going no higher than Level 2 (skipping higher levels) and most had 3 levels underground that had food courts and cheaper shops (try some local food at the Takashimaya department store basement food court (level B1) - like yakatori chicken or chicken ball sticks $1.50 each and super yummy from 'Tori Q', which we later found at other food courts). Not a lot of cheap shopping to be had in Singapore but the exchange rate meant things were cheaper than Oz by about 20%, so we still managed to stuff our bags!!

A visit to Singapore Zoo is a MUST. We went during the day and many told us the Night Safari is fantastic. The zoo is amazing, there don't appear to be any barriers between you and the animals and it is like roaming in botanical gardens, the tropical foliage is just so beautiful and this helps on hot days keeping you in some shade. The range of animals you'll see is staggering, IT IS THE BEST ZOO I'VE BEEN TO IN THE WORLD! Example: they don't just have lions and tigers, they have jaguars, white tigers, lions, cheetahs, the list goes on!! We did not pay for the tram, electing to walk around the zoo on the paths instead which are easy and we spent 4 hours there, could have spent longer. A visit to the panda bears at $5SGD extra is a MUST, you have to elect a time to visit them (TIP: go to them first) and you get about half an hour to walk past two feeding pandas. The hotel has a bus that takes you to and from Singapore Zoo for $5SGD which is a bargain (as the zoo is the furthest we ventured from the hotel, at least a 30min trip) and the bus is fully air-conditioned, just check what times they leave with the hotel concierge. Show your Singapore Airlines boarding pass at the zoo for a discount on entry charges (was about $21SGD incl the pandas viewing).

We had some tips on where to eat from some Aussie expats, so a good destination is 'Club Street' (all the taxis know where this area is, again about $7SGD from hotel, plenty of interesting laid back restaurants/bars but we were recommended to the roof-top bar at The Screening Room, really funky and great nibblies to have with your drinks there, just sit back and enjoy the surrounding lit up high-rises and chat to people from all over the world. Another great place for drinks and food is the 'Lantern' at the Fullerton Bay Hotel.

A visit to Marina Bay Sands Hotel is a must, foyer is super modern and spectacular and make sure you go to the top level viewing deck, $20SGD, or have lunch up there at Ku Da Ta restaurant (at one end of the roof, modern Asian cuisine and funky decor) to see the view or have a drink at their groovy bar that overlooks the infinity edge pool on the roof - do not leave without seeing this, it doesn't cost to go there and the pool is a truly stunning sight as is the view back over Singapore. There's a shopping mall attached to the hotel that has some different shops, so worth a visit.

We spent 6 days in Singapore and I would definitely go back and stay only at the Swissotel Stamford. The whole of Singapore is so safe and clean and very easy to get around, you can do as little or as much as you want - think I'll be back one day soon.

Room Tip: Request a room on a high level for the fantastic view, anything over level 38. A Harbour View Room...

We were on a cruise out of Singapore and chose to stay for four nights in town prior to the cruise.
We did our homework prior to leaving home and found this hotel to be highly rated. Well, we were not disappointed. We loved our room on the 34th. floor overlooking the marina and the staff was helpful and accomodating. We enjoyed our breakfasts in the excellent Swiss Cafe in the lobby; great setting and an a wonderful choice of food. The location of the hotel is perfect and we were able to walk to a lot of the sites we wanted to see. Whenever we come back to Singapore we will definitely choose the Stamford again.

Room Tip: our room on the 34th. floor had great views of the marina

I gave this hotel a crap review last year, it's our company hotel but the service was lacking so I moved my business to the Carlton across the road. I've just stayed in room 5570 and it was AMAZING. The last few trips the service has improved and so has the room service meals. This hotel used to feel like a factory, but everything's changed. I'd recommend paying the extra for a high floor so your looking straight into the hotel rooms across the other side. The BEST thing is the view and balcony from this hotel. The only minor issue is that the mini bar doesn't get re-stocked every day and it would be great to have milk instead of creamer to make coffee. Again this place has changed so much in 12 months there must be new management.

Room Tip: high floor, or any room not on the pool side.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for the wonderful review!

We’re elated to hear that you were able to experience the improvements over the past 12 months as a lot of effort had been made by the management and staff to review and enhance our service delivery. Your positive comments will be a great encouragement to the team!

At the same time, we note your feedback on the re-stocking of the minibar. If milk is your preference, please do not hesitate to request some from In Room Dining in the future.

We definitely hope to welcome you back soon!

We stayed at Swisshotel Stamford probably for 6th or 7th time in last 8 years or so and i would not hesitate to say its easily one of the best located hotel in Singapore with very standard good quality service as expected.

Since i am exclusive member , once i told about my booking i was taken to special members floor(63rd) in a jiffy, luggage arrived promptly and i hate to repeat to myself but everything was as expected.
Good clean room with very good view, They had given one big family room without me asking with big queen size bed which was adequate and comfortable.

In Room Service was prompt and came on time, food is ok, nothing special but pretty expensive.

Breakfast at 1st Floor restaurant is huge with everything right from continental, Chinese, Japanese to Indian food with big selection of bakery items, fruits and beverages.
Some staff are very helpful who will guide you the seat and give tea or coffee, and if you don't want those will give juice etc. Some of them though didn't do that which is something Hotel management should look at, i mean have consistency around the service

Happy Hour at Executive Floor has nice view and good service.Only issue we faced was some of the food items got items got finished quickly and it was never arrived again

Location wise this is the best hotel with almost everything in Singapore within easy reach. This hotel is directly connected to City Hall MRT which is useful.
Also they have got buses coming to pick you for Sentosa or Night Safari etc which is helpful.

Hotel has good restaurants and one top floor bar plus restaurant, again good but bit expensive

Service wise, majority of people have smile on their face, we had old lady cleaner who was very very helpful .Always happy to help, forgot her name but i did put an appreciation card for her.

Once my shower was not working and was fixed quickly within couple of hours so again good and prompt service

Overall a very comfortable trip and everything was as expected with no big issues. Will come again

Room Tip: There is food court on third floor of the shopping complex(Raffles Shopping Place) connected to the...
