my daughter and i stayed at swissotel the stamford singapore for one night in june this year on the way back from dubai and the uk. i stayed at raffles the plaza next door (i have written a review for this hotel also) with my husband almost three years prior, and as i was travelling with my daughter, thought i would try out the swissotel. my husband stays there regularly on business.
i was very impressed with the swissotel. check in, whilst there was a queue, was very efficient and polite. our bags were taken very quickly to our room, very welcome after a long and exhausting trip. my daughter and i had an enormous room with two queen sized beds in, and a lovely bathroom. although i had requested from the travel agent a low floor (i know how high this place is!) we ended up on the 43rd floor! my husband hasn't even stayed that high! anyway, we had marvellous views of the city and surrounds. the bathroom was lovely with nice toiletries. my daughter was very impressed with the size of the room, but i kept her away from the balcony!
the location of course is excellent with the shopping centre, chijmes and transport nearby. my daughter couldn't believe the shops were next door. sad to say we ate burger king for dinner, but it was quick, easy and cheap!
we had breakfast the next day, which had an enormous choice. we arrived during a busy time, but the staff were still very polite, friendly and helpful. my daughters eyes boggled at all the food, and although she didn't like some things she ate (she can be a tad fussy and it had nothing to do with the quality of the food) it was wonderful that there were so many things to try. the guava juice proved a hit! the coffee was lovely too.
the pool is shared with raffles the plaza next door, and a lovely cool retreat from the heat and humdity of singapore.
what i liked most about the hotel was however the staff., from the check in staff right through to the guy who hails the taxi (he even offered to be in my daughters photo, which left her very pleased!) they were constantly approaching my daughter and chatting to her, even the male staff! children can sometimes be made to feel invisible, or like nuisances, but they were so lovely to her that she shone every time they spoke to her! what made me laugh was that they were noticed her because of her blonde hair, blue eyes and fair skin (so different to them, they said)! she had a doll which looked like her, and the staff found it hilarious (again, including the males) and asked her all about the doll! several of the female staff complimented her on her lovely hair, which was such a sweet thing to do.
there was a slight mix up at check out, but it was handled with humour and sorted quickly and efficiently. we were offered the use of a room and the pool at check out as our flight home was late at night. that was very appreciated.
in short, i would highly recommend the swissotel if you are taking kids, as raffles the plaza next door is really a business/couples hotel.
i loved it, and when travelling with my family will be my hotel of choice for singapore (raffles the plaza for just myself and hubby though). very reasonably priced too.
and thanks for being so nice to my daughter!
