I stayed at the Mandarin Oriental in Jan 2007 with my parents and it was a fantastic experience, one I will remember fondly for a long time.

Lobby - One point that may work against the Oriental, but which did not particularly bother my family, is that the lobby is dark and not very welcoming (black tiles and walls) and there isn't the hustle and bustle that you can feel in other hotels with grand lobbys such as The Fullerton. There is no real place to people watch or just to relax and have a drink however what The Oriental may lack in this area it makes up for in friendly staff who greet you constantly as you go up to your room. I felt like a celebrity every time I walked in to the hotel so it didn't bother me. There were lovely flower decorations and I was impressed by the decor of the elevators which was very intricate and unusual.

Check in - Check in was very smooth and we had no problems. Staff were very efficient and there was virtually no wait involved.

Room - We REALLY loved our room! Even though we had a standard room, it was larger than an average hotel room with a little lounge and desk. Despite having three people in one room, it did not feel cramped. The bed was amazingly comfortable, possibly the most comfortable I have ever slept in. The bedding was like velvet against the skin! Pillows were just the right softness too. The bathroom was luxurious and packed with soaps and shampoos. Our view wasn't great (we overlooked a tennis court and a view other not-so-exciting buildings) but we still did spend some time admiring the few. It was great to people watch. So all in all, our room was fantastic and we were very happy!

Dining - Some of the best food I have ever tried was at The Oriental. The first night we ate at Dolce Vita where I had a tasty pasta dish. What really took the cake was the MELT ~ World Café which we ate at every morning. The wide variety of food, the high quality of ingredients, the attention to detail... everything was wonderful. Every morning we were greeted by name by the friendly hosts and led to our table. I loved the Indian section and often gorged myself on the curries. I also loved the fruit bar which had really fresh ingredients and you could make up whatever combination of drink you wanted! I am a huge chocolate fan so I made use of the chocolate fountain which of course was delicious. One fault I did find is that my freshly made pancakes were rather gluggy and stodgy but this is a minor point. Loved the food! Unfortunately we didn't get to eat at the Cherry Garden or the Steakhouse (as we are vegeterian) but I was completely satisfied with the Melt. So good!

Room service - After a long day of sight seeing we decided to indulge in a three course room service meal for dinner. We were really impressed by the professionalism of the waiter who folded out a table for us which was equipped with a freezer. We had napkins, plenty of cutlery and the food was still piping hot. I throughly enjoyed my meal which was incredibly filling.

Staff - The staff are so enthusiastic and helpful, we we really impressed with all the staff, from the people who open the doors, to the waiters to those on reception. We didn't encounter one member of staff who was ill-tempered. The maids always said hello to us. The staff made our stay truly terrific.

Pool - Although the pool itself is nothing to write home about as it is not very big, it was big enough and generally very quiet when we were there. I didn't like how the resturant overlooked the pool as I felt I was on show but the view overlooking the city from the pool is amazing.

Location - Very convenient for access to Marina Square and the MRT. We had no problems getting anywhere.

We throughly enjoyed our stay and would go back in a heartbeat!

We checked in here for a night on transit. Absolutely no regrets....It has the convinience of a real bonified shopping mall just outside (Not the crappy kinds you typically find in Hotels in Asia) yet an obviously luxe calm the moment you step into the hotel.

My only complaints were in-room. If you're paying more than 300 per night, you'd expect that the beds be less springy and more firm. But that could just be preference.

Our family thoroughly enjoyed the Mandarin. We stayed in two long weekend visits going to/from Cambodia. For a hotel of its size the feeling is surprisingly intimate. Location is excellent; service superb; staff friendly and charming. The breakfast buffet has to be one of the world's best - every type of Asian cuisine plus North American/English standards.
Only minor gripes were the internet charges (should be free these days, or at least rolled into the room rate!), and the pool is a little small by current standards. I think they aim for a business clientele, but our kids were welcomed and quite comfortable.

had a couple of days pitstop in Singapore and chose this hotel from all of the TA reviews and it was really good. We decided upon arrival to upgrade to the club lounge as that guaranteed us an 8pm check out and it was worth it. Had lots of food and drink in the club lounge which saved us $ in the long run. Room was great and we really enjoyed the pool area....would definately recommend the Oriental

This hotel should be listed as one of the top hotels of the world.
The service right from the limousine that picks you up from the airport
to your checkout is impeccably handled by warm and genuine staff.

The rooms are wonderful and its the little things that tend to matter, like the fresh fruit and bottled water in the room changed daily. When you are on holiday for leisure rather than being a business customer as most bill as are settled by companies you appreciate things more.

Nothing is to much trouble for the staff who serve you with a smile always.

If you get the chance take a club harbour room which has glorious views over the harbour and the city too.
The club class lets you have breakfast, all day soft drinks and afternoon tea & cookies then evening tit bits and cocktails.
The spread that is served and the drinks have to be seen to be believed.

The pool are is one of the best in the world we have been to as in the staff are so attentive with towels, iced friut, iced drinks and iced flannels at regular intervals.

From the time you arrive and they know your name till the time you leave everything about your stay is logged in there minds and computers no doubt to ensure they serve you with what you like.

This was our 4th year in the Mandarin Oriental and when we holiday in Singapore we would not stay anywhere else. Even a free room at Raffles well maybe !!!!

Melvis and the girls in the club class need a mention as without them the Mandarin Oriental would not be the place it is today.

Alice Swe out of the club is also liike another daughter to us and we keep in touch.

Dont believe the bad reviews you read on here which are few and far between as we have come up against a few rude people who stay in these places and think they are a cut above the staff that work there.

Just remember to treat people how you would like to be treated and you will have a super stay in this hotel.

Hope you all enjoy as much as we do.
