“Still one of the, if not 'the', best”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 28, 2012

I stayed at the Regent for a business visit, last time was 5 years ago, I was not disappointed then, and now was even better. This hotel really does it well, it is not new anymore, but its stylish charm remains well thought out and balanced. Staff is exceptional, they know how to run the business. Food is excellent, they have chef's attending the lunch buffet tables and the result is you get expert advice and not a pyramid of mis-matched food on your plate. The Italian chef who spoke to me (he can see the customer's hesitant look as they hover around the buffet tables) really got the right tone of enthusiasm, explanations and helpful suggestions. Result: wonderfully balanced Italian lunch that I would find hard, nay, impossible, to order to equivalent quality anywhere else in Singapore, SE Asia, or even Italy!. Ten out of Ten for food.

And it starts at checking in. They recognise you even if you were there a long time ago, I did not book anything fancy, but got an upgrade to the club level without asking, and the room turned out to be the presidential suite!. Massive in size (equivalent to five large rooms), really over the top, but nice to experience, who needs an entrance and reception room, two bathrooms, three toilets, one kitchen, a large bedroom, lounge, dining room, triple balcony? Yes, the answer is the president!

So full marks for the Regent, and especially to the staff, they make the difference!

Room Tip: Good rooms, spacious layout. Of course, try and get the presidential suite, but there is only one! I...

I have stayed at the Regent a handful of times and I always come away from the hotel with a good feeling. The location is prime but just off the beaten track. The Regent Hotels were conceived in Asia in the 80's and all have an oriental elegance about them that is not easy to find these days. Despite the age of this hotel it has been maintained beautifully, especially the lobby which has an old elegant style about it. The room is spacious, the bathroom less so but adequate. The staff are very freindly and everything functioned well for the various times that I have been lucky to stay there.

Give it a go and you won't be disappointed.

My sister and I stayed at the Regent club , the staff is so helpfull . My sister had a baby with her and she was suprise that the hotel provide a bottle sterilizer including all the amanities for the baby, I know it's just a small thing but it's nice to know that a hotel put attention . The house keeping come 2 times a day and check if we need anything . The room size is big for Singapore standard , I have stayed at few hotel along Orchard road the room was small .
I will stay again at The Regent on my next trip even the location is not right on orchard road but I can't find a bad thing about this hotel, is truly one of the best Singapore trip I had

I concur with Kenny Ben's review even though it's a bit removed from Orchard Rd shopping frenzy it works in the hotel's favour as it sits in a quiet spot but next to the Tanglin Mall and cafes. Tip for busy people is the free coffee service in the foyer until 8:15am or grab a fresh muffin from the Something to go shop on the ground floor of the hotel. The hotel's plumbing is old and noisy and it could do with a refurbishment which I think is planned. Service is excellent - I have been living in the hotel for 4 of the past 5 weeks so was able to judge up close. The restaurant staff looked after me last weekend when I had a dodgy stomach! I also recommend the Four Seasons restaurant and outside bar up the road from the Regent and Ah Hoi's kitchen on the 4th floor of the Traders hotel next door to the Regent.

Room Tip: Rooms away from Cuscaden Rd construction site.

We stayed 3 nights with family of 5 plus grandparents. The rooms were large, well appointed - though starting show a little sign of age, very clean and well serviced. Location was great. Close to Orchard Rd, but set back (a 7 minute walk) and consequently a little quiter.
All staff were very polite and very keen to help. Recieved discount on per item cost of Laundary for children's clothes. The fruit and pastries were very good, didn't get past these to try other food. Beds were comfortable. Felt it was very good value for money. Will stay again.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 20, 2012

My partner and I stayed at the Regent Hotel for 3 nights in June and we had a pleasant stay. There are definitely positive as well as a few negative aspects to this hotel. The hotel itself is located on Cuscaden Road, close to Orchard Rd, and the Orchard Rd. MRT Station is about 10-15 minutes walk away. The hotel can arrange a pick up from the Airport, however we took a taxi which cost about a fifth of the price and it only took about 30 minutes. The hotel is not close to many of the sights in Singapore, however taxis are relatively cheap or alternatively you may take the MRT from the Orchard Rd Station.

As explained many times here on Tripadvisor, the hotel is quite old by Singapore standards. There is nothing special about the exterior of the hotel, however they do have a very nice lobby area. The rooms are quite spacious compared to other 5 star hotels in Singapore, but as the rest of the hotel, they are a bit run down. The rooms have the usual 5 star features, with nice comfy beds, desk, TV, mini bar, coffee and tea maker. The TV has the standard international channels and there are speakers in the bathroom, which is a nice touch. The bathrooms are very standard however the bathtub has a shower curtain, which in my opinion does not belong in a 5 star property. The bathroom amenities are very nice L'Occitane products, although I found the housekeepers quite frugal with regards to the replenishment of these.

The room we had did not come with free internet, and the charge was extremely high which definitely put me off. There was a small business center with free internet access and printers, which was good (but it did not make up for the exorbitant in room prices). The prices for laundry were also ridiculously high.

Our rate included breakfast every morning and we were looking forward to it after reading some of the previous reviews, however quite frankly this was nothing to rave about. Most of the dishes were the same everyday, and consisted of typical tasteless hotel buffet food. Eggs were prepared individually but somehow the chef always managed to cook these into oblivion. Considering Singapore has some of the best food on earth, the Asian dishes were a let down. The siu mai were cold while the char siew bao were dry, and the noodles were not worthy of being called noodles. The pastries were very tasty though with nice flaky croissants, and the hotel had a nice fruit selection.

The hotel has a small gym as well as a pool area outside with a few sun loungers. The pool was of a sufficient size but nothing special. There is a pool bar as well however our Singapore Slings were made in the bar inside for some reason.

As mentioned many times, the service at this hotel is really good. All the staff that we encountered was exceptional and always had a smile on their face. Check in and check out was a breeze. The staff at breakfast was super efficient and the empty plates were removed swiftly. The pool guys would greet you with a smile, lay towels on the sun beds and bring you a glass of cold water. Basically everyone was very service minded and the hotels must be commended for this. After reading some reviews about construction noise on one side of the hotel, we sent a request for a room facing away from the construction and preferably a room on a high floor. The hotel made sure to accommodate our request, which was very nice as I am a light sleeper. Our request for a late check out was also met by the friendly reception staff.

All in all, we had a very pleasant stay at the Regent and the staff was wonderful. However the hotel is not quite up to the standard of either Regent or Four Seasons. One comes with certain expectations when one sees the names of two high-end brands, however it seems that the head offices of both Regent and Four Seasons are letting this hotel “do its own thing”. That being said, for the price we paid it was definitely value for money.

Room Tip: Make sure to request for a room facing away from the construction
