I stayed here with my husband for two weeks while he was in town on business. We had a standard room, which was very comfortable—nice linens, shower w/ very good water pressure (and a good-sized separate bath tub), robes and slippers, mini-fridge, free water and tea everyday. Everyone in the hotel was very welcoming and attentive. I used the business center once to fax some documents, and the staff were helpful and pleasant. We were on the eighteenth floor, and we did occasionally hear the karaoke as others have mentioned (around 9 or 10 PM), but noise from the construction across the street was never an issue.
The gym is very clean and well equipped—an excellent selection of cardio equipment and weights—and well stocked with fresh towels and complimentary water bottles. I also thought the pool and spa (steam room, sauna, and jacuzzi) were well maintained and very relaxing.
The brunch is excellent, although a bit on the expensive side. Jet-lagged and having no expense account of my own, I found myself searching for a reasonably priced breakfast at 6 AM. I didn’t have much luck on that front, but I did find that the Starbucks in Tanglin opens at 7 AM (weekdays), as does Han’s Café in the Far East Plaza (classic American breakfast of eggs, toast, and bacon). If you can wait until 8 AM, Toastbox in Wisma Atria is a good option (and my personal favorite—grab a seat by the window and watch Singapore wake up).
All in all I thought this was a very good place to stay. Even if Orchard Road isn’t your ideal setting (i.e. you’re not an avid consumer of Cartier), the access one has to so many other locales in Singapore via public transport (which is immaculate and efficient) is superb. The hotel sits right on top of the metro, and a number of useful buses (e.g. lines to Bukit Timah, Botanical Gardens, etc.) stop at Tanglin or very close by, allowing for easy (and frugal) exploration of the city.
