I've known about and visited this hotel (but never stayed) ever since the early days when it was known as the Dynasty Hotel. There has been significant renovations done over the years, and I must say, they have really done a fantastic job keeping this place looking classy, world class, and brand spanking new!
I just had a one night stay for a meeting in town I had to attend, so I probably didn't get the full hotel experience in this short time. At check in, I was greeted by a couple of very friendly front desk staff who helped me through a speedy check in and made sure I was well taken care of. I took an early flight into Singapore and therefore requested an early check in, and it great that they were able to accommodate me at this time. I was afraid they would say they were full and I'd have to leave my bags and return at a later time, but no. I had requested a quiet room with a king bed, but it wasn't quite ready yet so they offered me a room with two twin beds, which was fine. Upon arriving on my floor, I could tell that they take great pains in maintaining the place in tip top condition.....the hallways were very clean and inviting. Once in the room, I could tell I was going to have good night's sleep. Spotless, clean sheets and very comfortable bed, beautifully decorated, and spacious. There's plenty of closet space, a mini fridge with plenty of snacks and drinks on top, a nice marble top desk looking out the window, wall mounted flat screen TV with plenty of channels, and what I thought was a nice touch was the iPod docking station clock on the nightstand. Oh, and most important, I had free wifi (or wired) since I was a Marriott rewards member. The internet was great.....fast and stable.
The bathroom was very nice too, but has a very small space around the sink to put your toiletries on. However, women may like that there's a small vanity top and cushioned stool in bathroom.
I had a pretty good sleep through the night, but was awoken once or twice with foot steps coming from the floor above, but then again, I'm a light sleeper. Other than that, it was a very peaceful night.
I also managed to use the gym. Very well equipped with very modern, clean, and well maintained machines. There were a few treadmills, elliptical trainers, bikes, etc. A good set of dumbells, a Smith rack, and lots of machines will assure an excellent and complete workout.
Out of curiosity, I took a stroll over to the pool. It's a bit of maze to get there, but once there, it looked decent sized, really nice and private, and surrounded by very comfortable poolside chairs and umbrellas. Unfortunately, my schedule was too busy and so I didn't have the time to sit out there to enjoy a relaxing afternoon by the pool with my iced tea.
I think the biggest draw about this hotel must be it's location. It's conveniently close to everything you would ever want on Orchard Road. Shops, restaurants, MRT right out front, underpasses to the malls across the roads, great restaurants, entertainment. Right downstairs at the hotel is a nice cafe where you can get together with friends or just sit and people watch all day if you're into this kind of thing, as this place is always bustling with lots of people traffic.
Of course, all this comes with a price. The Marriott is definitely one of the pricier hotels on Orchard Road, but you definitely get what you pay for in terms of the best service, best comfort, and total convenience. Not a bad place for business travelers or shopping getaway visits.
