The Singapore Marriott is an excellent choice when traveling to Singapore on business or pleasure. Located on Orchard Rd., you are right in the heart of the upscale shopping district with easy access to the rest of the city via the MRT station located just steps from the entrance of the hotel. $10 unlimited use (train and bus), tourist passes for one to three days are available at the ticket booth at the Orchard station. The MRT is the best way to get around the city. Impeccably clean, quick, easy to navigate and one of the few bargains you’ll find in Singapore.
Being that this is primarily a business hotel; the hotel has a contemporary, upscale look and feel to it in both the common areas as well as the guest rooms. If you’re looking for more of resort experience, there are several pool suites surrounding the perimeter of the fifth floor pool. This was one of the nicest pools of any city location Marriott I’ve ever stayed at. There’s also a fairly high rated restaurant located at the pool aptly named the Pool Grill. I only tried lunch there one day while relaxing by the pool. A bit on the expensive side but the quality and quality of food was very good.
Being a Marriott Platinum Elite member, we were upgraded from a Deluxe room to an Executive room on the 30th floor with a great view of the city looking towards Marina Bay and the Sands. The room was exceptionally clean, well maintained and comfortable. My only complaint would be the lack of drawer space in the closets. Enough for a single traveling business person but lacking for two people.
If you’re a Marriott Gold or Platinum Elite member, you’ll receive free internet access and access to one of the nicest Marriott Executive lounges I’ve ever been to. Second perhaps only to the JW Marriott Hong Kong Executive lounge. They have a great spread of food along with a full complimentary bar each evening. Another nice option (as a Gold/Platinum member), is that you can choose breakfast each morning in either the lounge or in the Crossroads Café located in the lobby. The café offers a huge buffet assortment of both western and Asian breakfast selections, one better than the next. As an Elite member this was an outstanding benefit (and value) since the buffet normally comes with a $38 per person price tag . You can choose to eat inside or out which is a great way to people watch along Orchard Rd., if you can stand the heat!
The staff couldn’t have been more friendly or helpful. Everyone we encountered acknowledged us with a smile and if you looked the least bit puzzled or perplexed, would ask if there was anything they can help with, especially in the lounge.
While expensive (but then again all four/five star hotels worth staying in in Singapore are expensive), the Marriott truly delivered on all counts. I would definitely stay here again and recommend it to anyone planning on visiting Singapore.
