“Great location at a fare price”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 29, 2013

An old chinese opera house refurnished into a hotel. Small rooms without space beside the bed for a table. Just climb in and inch worm your out of bed. No space for luggage. The A/C is great, bath room is fine. The maid kept taking the toilet paper and not leaving a roll. (I don't know what that's about) the bed is good and lots of pillows. The linen is good. Do not waste the money on breakfast. There are plenty of places out the back door and to the left to find good food. The carpet in the entrance is very worn and gives a bad first impression. The hotel is a fair price for the area.

Room Tip: Do not waste the money on breakfast. There are plenty of places out the back door and to the left to...

Dear Valued Guest,

Thank you for taking the time to write us a review and noted some positive points of Santa Grand Hotel Lai Chun Yuen.

We recognize that some of our rooms are small and to increase guest comfort, we would encourage guests to use the lobby and stage area which are very quiet and conducive, and enjoy our full day complimentary coffee, tea and wi-fi service. We appreciate your feedback about the carpet, we have brought this matter up to the management and will look into it.
As regards our breakfast, it is complimentary for our hotel guest and there are no charges of it.

Total guest satisfaction is our utmost priority and it is thanks to your constructive feedback that we are able to maintain and further improve on our service standards. We look forward to welcoming you again in the near future.

Regards,
Hotel Management Team

Pros:
Decent location close to shops, food offerings and MRT.
Cons:
Our room was located near a shop which played loud disco music till very late which made it impossible to sleep at all. Staff were not really that interested in customer service.

Foyer is nice but overall i would not recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: stay away from rooms which front onto street as it is very loud

Dear Valued Guest,

Thank you for sharing your experience with us here. We gladly noted that you are satisfied with our location and liked our foyer.

Unfortunately, we are unable to perfect your accommodation experience due to the noise in this Chinatown area. The streets in Chinatown can be a little bustling at night, and whilst it reflects the ambiance in this heritage area, it can be troubling for some travellers like you, which we are sorry to hear that. Our practice is to offer our guest a change of room that is not facing the streets. We appreciate your feedback about our customer service, we have since counseled our staffs and your feedback is of great importance to us that we are able to maintain and further improve on our service standards.

However, Santa Grand Hotel Lai Chun Yuen may not be preferred by all travelers, we do have other Santa Grand hotels in chain, like Santa Grand Hotel East Coast or Santa Grand Hotel Bugis to meet the diverse need of customers. We certainly hope you will still choose to stay with us again when you return for business or leisure.

Regards,
Hotel Management Team

After reading the reviews on here I made sure I had a window room upon checking in. I didn’t and they were happy enough to change this for me. Arriving at this room with bell boy in tow a maintenance man was servicing something in the roof. So back I went to the original windowless room, with the option of moving back tomorrow. Moving to the window room you first notice how it is quite a bit smaller than the window room. The toilet is so close to the wall in front you have to splay your legs like an acrobat to sit. But what was worse was the water rot and mould on the outside wall of the bathroom. How they could sell this room with this amount of damage I don’t know. So I moved again back to the window less room. The front house staff is friendly enough, the bell boy more so. The breakfast is simple at least they have fresh fruit, the pineapple was so sweet and the staff very friendly. Wi-Fi in rooms a big plus. Location is very good in Chinatown with plenty of nearby restaurants including 2 hawker centres (Maxwell and Hong Lim). It is also close to some hip restaurant strip super popular with expats, forget the name though but looked really good. The shopping here though is very touristy, useless junk. The price of hotels in Singapore is ridiculous, but next time think I will spend a bit more.

I liked everthing about Santa Grand Lai Chun Yuen except for the very small room size. Staffs were very helpful, wifi access was fast and stable, breakfast included was decent for the price. Location couldn't be better (3 min walk from Chinatown MRT station). I will stay there again if I go to Singapore again.

great location, money value, breakfast so so, near food street, near coin laundry 5sgd for wash and 5sgd for dryer, nearest money changer are in departement store with small counter but great deals, near chinatown MRT station, near everywhere, lots attraction places, we'll be back again, but need to upgrade our room, and have to be on 3rd floor, they have to fix their plumbing problems, sometimes makes sounds and very noisy, also they have to make bathroom fans working properly

Room Tip: you choose 3rd floor, and north side, dont book standard room (small)

the China town area is right on the markets and around the corner from the MRT. The foyer is brilliant with the look of Kill Bill in the Lucy Liu fight scene. The building is an old opera house so a lot of history.
The rooms are very small but manageable if you pay the extra $25for an upgrade. the worst aspect of this hotel is the insanely noisy street that keeps you awake if you can't sleep through an atomic bomb blast.
Free Wi-Fi was fast and great with a very basic breakfast supplied. Great value considering location and if you don't mind the small room and noise.

Room Tip: Pay for an upgrade room if you can. if not choose the internal rooms because you won't be kept a...
