“Clean, excellent location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 27, 2012

Hotel is really nice from the outside, architecture of the hotel itself makes it nice to start. Rooms are okay in size, not too big, not too small and lots of place to store your bags and your personal belongings.

Location is really awesome, since it's close to 3 MRT stations on 2 different lines: Lavender (the nearest one, about 5-8 mins of walking) on the East West Line and Nicoll Highway (8-10 mins) on the Circle Line. On the way up to the Nicoll Highway station, you have a nice first landscape of downtown Singapore near the Marina Bay. Little India is walking distance from the hotel, worth talking a small detour!

Breakfast is really perfect including western food (eggs, potatoes, bacon, fruits, chicken, etc.).

Price is a bit pricy, but in fact, everything is in Singapore. High speed Wi-Fi is really good. One negative thing: if you room is close to a gate, they are making lots of noise when they self-close which makes it annoying when someone arrives late in the night.

Returned from 5 days in Singapore stayed at The Sultan -the service was top class, as our flight home was late at night we were given access to a room to shower and change before leaving. The service throughout stay was excellent.
The hotel is in a good location easy access to bus (outside hotel) and the MRT short walk. Excellent selection of restaurants in the area. Rooms are compact, clean and comfortable, free WI Fi. Great place to stay.

Last min booking n we've been upgraded to the Loft suite. Great stay, service n location convinient to a lot of places.

Flaws: Gents room at Pasha is next to our room. The steps on the loft is pretty steep n scary to scale down.

The Sultan Hotel, Singapore

Located in the Arab neighbourhood of Singapore, on a main road opposite 7-11 [handy]. Taxis are pretty affordable in Singapore in case you don’t feel like walking to their version of the tube [MRT, which is reliable, regular & also affordable]. We had ordered a suite through a deals site which was why it was ready in the morning when we arrived. Their version of a ‘suite’ is really just a large-ish room but I guess as rooms are a lot smaller in Asia on average, this was a good thing.

PROS:

Interesting to be in the Arab district, within a couple of blocks are side streets & stalls & cafes & interesting architecture [also you have to check out China Town & Little India neighbourhoods if you’re interested in that type of thing].

Very good service & reception/concierge staff had good English skills.

Very superficial but a decent enough mix of English speaking channels like HBO & CNN, even the ‘Australia network!’

Clean rooms, decent toiletries.

Nice outdoor open air bar [we had been offered a complimentary welcome drink to take after 6:30 upon arrival but forgot to do this].

CONS:

Also regarding location, being in the Arab district might be a down side as one weeknight we could hear loud chanting & singing as if from speakers that we first imagined was from a mosque a couple of doors down although reception informed us this was not the case-maybe a club or restaurant that liked to get their entertainment on? After a long day we really just wanted it to Stop but oh well.

Also connected to the outdoor open air bar, ONLY ISSUE is rooms around this bar area could be disrupted at night if you’re looking for peace & quiet, may not get this.
Room view was of a side street with trucks being heard later at night.
Whilst not strictly a negative, breakfast was kind of just blah, found the range very limited on Western options & having the cereal milk lukewarm, etc.

Room Tip: Away from rooftop bar.

Stayed here on the 12-Jun-2012 for three nights. Vey friendly and helpful reception staff , we had room 129 very clean , but missing a door in the shower, otherwise quite good for 2 adults, would be good if they had a luggage Stand to put our suit case on.

Complimentary breakfast but you must be early or there is not much left after 9:30am. Pretty much the same menu every day. There is Free wifi internet and in room safe.

There is a 24 hr "Easy Wash" Self service laundry mat ( currently only 3 locations in the whole of Singapore), its down behind the Sultan plaza (take the footpath to the right side of the Sultan plaza), it's very close to the Kampong Glam police post, you can google it. The washing machines and dryers are very new and clean, commercial quality. Price start from $5 for 10kg, $7 for 16 kg $9 for 20kg, dryer are $1 for 5 mins.

Bus 107 will take you to close to Suntec City, where you can get a Hippo hop on hop off tour gives you all 5 different routes for $33 per day , for an extra $6 you get an extra day, well worth it to pay the $39 for two days. On North bridge road you catch a bus to various places. Eg. Bus 7, 175 will cost you about $1 to Orchard station.

Would stay here again.

We stayed here for a one night stopover in June 2012 and found the staff exceptional. In particular, Alex, couldn't have been more helpful. This hotel is decorated nicely with the great Pasha Bar on the rooftop. The rooms are very small, a bit of manoevering to get past your luggage to the bed, but clean. The bathroom was good with a great shower, although difficult to use hair appliance with no powerpoint in the bathroom except for a shaving point. A small hairdryer wouldn't go astray either as the majority of hotels have them I don't bother packing one for holidays. The hotel is located in a great area - walking distance to the Grand Sultan Mosque and several great restaurants in the lane leading to the Mosque. The shower room provided at the end of the day before flying out at 11pm was greatly appreciated.

The Sultan is a beautifully restored cluster of buildings creating a charming boutique hotel with a personal feel. We found it to be crispy clean yet full of small design surprises.
By the time you read this you will already know the rooms are not big. But they are well designed and tastefully furnished. Everything worked well and we had a comfortable stay.
The staff were great. One receptionist (Gang was his name we think) made a huge effort to help us feel comfortable. We felt the entire staff were highly motivated and well trained. Thanks to all of you

Room Tip: Rooms vary in size. Some had more light than others, some were quieter due to location. State your n...
