“Step back in time....”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 21, 2014

Really enjoyed a gentle stroll round this place... interesting Heritage Trail signage which helps you appreciate the sculpture (is it a swan, is it a girl?), some really cool architecture and trendy eateries .... had some good Soon Kuey at the Hawker Centre - large colourful market - beautifully fresh fish .... if only I lived closer by.....

“Old World Charm”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 10, 2014

This place still maintains it's old world charm but with more and more restaurants, it's getting more crowded and expensive.

Try the hawker stalls at the main building which is rather hidden. The food stalls are on level two and not visible from the street level.

Food at the hawker centre is cheap and good. Follow the queue! Look out for stalls with long queues... It's a sign that the food is best!!

“Laid back vibe, vibrant markets and hip eateries”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 8, 2014

This used to a sleepy, rather quiet area of Singapore with one notable element - good food. And although the area has become gentrified to a certain degree, it is still home to a fantastic wet market and food court (above the market), as well as new and hip eateries like Flock, PS Cafe and 40 Hands.

Do take the time to wander around the neighbouring side streets where you can also see locals supping at famous chi char stall Golden Spoon, the nearby bak kut teh (pork bone soup) and the curry rice stall. There are also a couple of well-stocked fish shops (for aquarium fish).

You can also take the Tiong Bahru heritage walk around the estate. For more details, visit littledayout.com and look up The Tiong Bahru Trail.

“Local delicacies”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 8, 2014

Head for the Tiong bahru market, ( 30 seng poh road, Singapore 168898) which is a 10 min walk from Tiong Bahru MRT exit A . Turn right and walk along tiong bahru road until you see seng poh road on your right.Best to ask for directions from passers by as it's hard to navigate for first timers. Visit the food centre for lunch or dinner. Plenty of local snacks, food items to try.

Along the way, observe the HDB housing flats, the way of life of the locals. You are already in the middle of a typical housing estate in Singapore!

“One of the Best in Singapore”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 11, 2013

I have visited numerous wet markets here in Singapore and this one is by far one of my favorites. It tends to have a much cleaner feel, I never feel overly crowded no matter how many people are there, and the pricing is better than some of the other wet markets. Plus, there is the added benefit of being in a really cool hip part of Singapore.
