“Does not deserve to be so highly rated”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 25, 2012 via mobile

Booked on hostel.com but they couldn't find my reservation. Could not retrieve it myself because their wifi sucks. $42 per bed advertised on hostel.com as "1 bed dorm" whatever that means. It sounds like a private room but isn't. $4 extra charge if you want a towel, $20 key deposit if you want to secure your stuff. Shower logistics are terrible - there is no real place to change or put your things so they won't get soaked. The wifi barely worked and the employee working just said "yea sometimes it's really slow" - typical Singapore - don't do anything about it or fix it, just stare blankly and nod. Dorm was full of noise, light, was too hot and impossible to sleep due to people coming and going and snoring #%[%#]^ (I spent my time not being able to sleep fantasizing about giving them the private Pyle full metal jacket treatment). Even though it really sucks you're better off with a ghetto hotel 81 room for $65 - at least you stand a chance of getting some sleep although for some reason those hotels always seem to be full of Chinese people screaming in the hallway at all hours. Singapore unlike many other places in south east Asia is a really unpleasant place to explore "the lower end of the spectrum". You're lucky if you get good service in a five star hotel let alone somewhere cheap. The prince of whales is a far better hostel for cheaper and a better location too!

Hi Brian,

Thanks for your review, Usually we are pretty bad with our response to reviews, but has decided to make an exception with your review.

Had the opportunity to review the rest of the 9 reviews you made for Singapore, you are really a seasoned traveller to Singapore and can't help but noticed that you have stayed in hotels from 5 stars to a starless hotel, then was really surprised that Singapore as a destination has left you with such a poor experience.

With the exception of the Mandarin Hotel, the rest of the accommodation has clearly fell below your expectations. If there is any consolation, I noticed that Little Red Dot has done decently well compared to our competition set which you have stayed in. Glad that we ranked well in location with you.

Speaking specifically about your reservation, I remembered that you have made an 11th hour last minute reservation and prior to your booking- you have also called us to clarify on the bed type which you were booking for. I had the opportunity to personally take your call and clearly explained the bed type to you. Was really surprised that you booked this bed type to start with given the queries you had. I guess you really had to give a try. Your reservation was always there, it is a last minute reservation which we had to check from the distributor who gave us your booking. I guess finally getting you a capsule to stay was the most important.

I guess that we given your brief stay of less than 12 hours, we did not get a chance to meet and get to know each other like what we hope to do with our guests. Nonetheless you had enough time to have an impression.

Your feedback is very much appreciated. I hope that you can be a friend for Singapore !

LOVE TO HAVE YOU IN SINGAPORE AGAIN ! : )

I will love to meet you in person the next time if we get the chance.

Cheers

The station where you can catch your bus to Malaysia has moved to a few streets away and a little hard to find because there is no sign outside. David at the hostel was kind enough to drop me off there and picked me up when I returned. Such a nice guy!

Stayed 5 nights. Good value for money. Believed we were staying in a dorm, which sort of we're but they were infact 'pods', comfortable, could still get wifi, own plug socket within it and 2 lights, have a pull down blind for some privacy. Pods only 2 levels high so not need climb that high, but a little annoying when rucksack on the bottom and have forgotten something! Great thing is that despite the dorms being downstairs you can't hear any noise from social area upstairs

Was clean, very basic breakfast of fluorescent yellow cereal, tea and coffee and bread for toast. Desmond very sweet and helpful, recommend his walking tour just to see a perhaps more real Singapore, with opportunity to try typical Singapore breakfasts etc.

A little far out. Took over hr to get to zoo, a metro ride from centre, half an hr Ish to get to marina. Would recommend purchasing metro card - like uk Oyster card. Was fine for us as had 5days but if don't fancy the time spent travelling, consider somewhere closer

In all good for money in an expensive city

The Little Red Dot was highly rated so I gave it a try. It may be fine for some but was a nightmare for me. My travelling companion broke down in tears on arrival and didn't sleep all night.
We arrived late about 11 pm and were shown to our rooms with little cubicles. Some have a privacy curtain - mine didn't. I thought I had booked in a 8 bed dorm but there were a lot more than 8 in that space. No towels or other toiletries were supplied. Breakfast was minimal.
This hostel may be fine for some single travelers but for 2 or more, a hotel is a much better option. Next visit to Singapore I will not be staying at the Little Red Dot.

The hostel was recommendable for other tourists since as they say, it is near the lavender station as well as farrer park station. Also, it included free breakfast and a clean and cozy bathroom. However, I have a few negative comments regarding the people who stay late at night revelling and drinking some beer. there were really nights that i can hardly sleep due to the noise from outside. and it's really not a good sight when you see sober people sleeping at the chairs outside in the morning when you wake up. Yes, there must be freedom amongst these people but the staff should limit the noise and drinks they give to the customers so that they can control and can't disturb others. Another thing was our malfunctioning aircon. We stayed for 6 days in this hostel and I can't really sleep properly because our aircon was not functioning well. For 5 nights, i would take off my shirt just to ease the heat i experience. Once these comments are addressed, i'm sure the hostel will improve and become better, maybe even the best in Singapore.

It was a great place for overnight in Singapore. but there are plenty of steps upto reception and then down to the dorm which was unisex and a hole in the wall king single mattress with light reading light safe box aircon and lovely clean sheets, the $18 included breakfast. I recommend this backpackers for great value for money I would stay here again I'm over 60.

Room Tip: make sure You book the better dorm not the bunk dorm, it is worth it.

Little red dot was a great place to stay, easy to get to every where in Singapore and with an amazing and cheap food court next door. The rooms are clean and there is a great chill out area which makes it easy to meet people. The best thing about this hostel is Jonathan the friendliest guy who will go out of his way to make sure you get the most out of your time in Singapore with recommendations and taking you out to all the best spots!
