“Complements your visit to the Peranakan Museum”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 3, 2013

While the Peranakan museum gives you a lot of background information about the Peranakan culture and traditions, a visit of the Baba house allows you to experience what home life of a typical Peranakan family in Singapore was like.
In this sense, this complements the visit to the Peranakan museum in a great way.

“Worth a visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 8, 2013

Well worth a visit. You must pre book to this tour, Just email the address on the website and if they have places they will just need your name and then you arrive a few minutes before hand.
Its a fascinating look back in time and the guide was full of facts and tells little funny stories.
Its easy to find just jump on the MRT and its about a 3 minute walk away.

“Highlight of Singapore”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 22, 2013

It's worthwhile seeing the Peranakan Museum before you visit Baba House to get some grounding in it's history and how people lived. This is well worth thr trouble to visit.

“Great tour for a rainy day!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 8, 2013

Fascinating look back in time to the way a prosperous Peranakan merchant and his family lived in early 20th century. The stories about the furniture and mode of living were illuminating. Also it made me appreciate how free we were in the west to choose our partners. In these families, as in many Asian traditions, the girls had to do as they were told and follow parental selection. It was interesting to see the peepholes in the floor which allowed a degree of listening in and sneak looks at visitors. The house is now cared for by a trust and will be carefully preserved. We went on a very wet day and found it most instructive. It is easy to book on the Internet.

“A step into the past”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 8, 2013

You have to pre-book this tour which is a bit of a pain, but I can understand given that for conservation reasons they can only have a limited number of people going round the house.
The guide was enthusiastic and encouraged questions from the group.

Definitely recommend this tour for historians, creatives, culturalists etc etc ...as well as a walk along Blair road (just round the corner) and Emerald Hill (near Sommerset MRT) where there are some other beautifully restored Peranakan Houses.
