We stayed at Fullerton Bay Hotel as a short getaway close to New Year's Eve. Having stayed for business and short personal getaways as well in Singapore at the Ritz Carlton, Conrad, Fullerton, Grand Hyatt, Four Seasons, St Regis and Hilton over the years, we are familiar with the expectations of a good hotel in this busy city. The Fullerton Bay Hotel exceeded these expectations, leaving few negative comments to be made about it.
The hotel itself has great location- close to the harbor with a great view of the Marina Bay Sands, skyline and bumboats. The sunset/ sunrise views and light show from the Marina Bay Sands from our balcony were superb. It is close enough to the business district as well for this to be a great business hotel.
The rooms were beautifully appointed and well-maintained, with Nespresso capsules generously laid out and Molten Brown toiletries offered.
Service was superb, far exceeding that of some of the other 5-star hotels we have stayed in in Singapore. Housekeeping was prompt and detailed. Upon arrival at the 2PM check-in time, we had to wait slightly longer than expected (about 15 minutes) for our room which wasn't ready- and we were then surprised to be offered a room upgrade even though the hotel was very full. We had a child and infant in tow whom we had not registered online as part of our party (they were not going to be staying over with us), but no one questioned us on this or aggressed us about possible additional charges. Instead we were asked if we needed an infant cot.
Throughout our stay there was no hint of snootiness or insincerity among the staff, from the reception to the pool to the housekeepers and restaurant staff. There was an air of genuine desire to serve and help. From the lobby to the pool we were asked several times if we needed help carrying the stroller. We were always greeted with a smile and direct look in the eye. At the lobby upon check out, my daughter cut her finger and needed a band-aid. The bell-hop unfortunately, the only member of the hotel staff who seems to have missed out on customer-service training, refused to help us, saying the reception was too far back where we had walked from to return to to get one. The CLEANER, a nice old guy, noticed this, put down his window cleaner, walked to the reception and returned with 2 pieces which he happily put in her hand!
We had an excellent dinner with foie gras, champagne, and a seafood platter with really fresh oysters and lobster for dinner, and a good buffet spread for breakfast. Although the hotel was running at full occupancy at no point did we feel or see the crowd.
The pool is excellent- beautiful, peaceful, clean with superb views over the city. Towels/ water with lemon were provided similar to the Four Seasons (but not the St Regis).
There are 2 points to make for improvement: there is no carpark on the premises and if one were to drive, luggage would have to be lugged through from the building next door (One Fullerton). If a hotel guest decides to valet the car, it is at a 12 dollar charge!
The second point is that the bed was not comfortable for me. The springs were soggy and offered my back no support, which made for a difficult night's rest for me, and it seemed rather small for 2. This might be a personal preference, but most luxury hotels would offer a firm bed for a good night's rest.
Other than that, this is a highly recommended hotel!
