“Traveller dump for Singapore Airlines”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed March 3, 2012

I blame Singapore Airlines for putting us over night in this unclean and depressing hotel with next to no facilities and far from the airport. We thought we were going to the Grand Copthorne Waterfront since it said GC Waterfront on our itinerary. Instead we got this, no 'Waterfront' in the name and no waterfront within sight!
Avoid.

This hotel was organized by Singapore Airlines and I was not paying for it, but had I paid, I would have left. The airport shuttle service was good, but beyond that it was not pleasant.

The hotel is located in little India, which is not the best place in Singapore, when leaving the hotel it has an abundance of Indian restaurants but that was it. The reception staff were not particularily helpful, and the hotel lift is noisy and you can here it's recording system from inside the room. When taking our bags to the elevator on departure, a staff member stepped over our bags and jumped in the lift before us, without offering any assistance and we had to wait for another elevator.

I have stayed here a few times now but this last trip is the last trip! Room was disgustingly dirty marks and spills all over the walls, very moldy slow draining shower which even had a dirty brown tide line. Disgusting! I am now developing tinea too! The noise was incredible with out of control guests making noise in corridors at all hours. The bed was so hard and linen a bit suspect. Staff were generally rude with no customer service skills and the older Indian duty manager guy had a shocking attitude. Staff would push past you when u were waiting for lifts not hold doors open and plainly rude when asking for an extra key as two of us were in the room. there was some food spilt on the floor in the hall by our room that stayed there the entire duration of our 3 day stay.

I first stayed here in mid 2010 when it first opened and this place has gone down hill since....

Don't stay here!

I felt good while booking through web, but the actual services or the room size not up to marks. General behaviour and approach of staff was not welcoming rather it was arrogant most of times. The cleanliness was OK, breakfast was OK, swimming pool is Good but open only for limited time. The location is OK. Hotel expects 1 hour early checkout which for me resulted in hurry for my family, and a slight delay of about 5-10 mins. resulted in ambarasment due to staff behaviour.

Room Tip: Elevators and access was big problem for rooms situated on temple side wing, better choose rooms in...

through all the local travel agents and some online offer, it seemed like this was a good choice... but mark me, it is not!!
first, the good -
1. close to little india, eateries and metro.
2. reasonably clean hotel
3. one particular semi senior executive who was chiniese faced (sorry i wish i could remember your name and mention it) was a nice a really helpful gentleman.

the bad -
1. The really loud and long temple bell ringing i atleast twice a day
2. too many indian travel agents seem to have propogaed this hotel. The lobby at the time of check in and what it remained pretty much all the time, showed that seriously they were not able to handle the crowd. you either need to throw attitude, money or boast an agent link. No genuine request can find its way other wise.
3. breakfast was off too fast. it was cold. and so were the people. When we requested for hot milk to be actually hot, the waiters said it is not their responsibility that the hot milk remains hot!! huh what was that!!
4. we had a corner room so having more glass panes and openness to the outside climate fluctuations. the ac didnt seem to have handles the pressure. my father had two days of fever and i too got night fever. The repair staff in private acknowledged it but admitted that they couldnt do anything. they didnt even guide us for a doctor. we called the senior and the seniors senior and who not. They all said that yes something was wrong but didnt know what! we had a 6 day long stay out of which finally the last two days they shifted us to another room.
5. staff truly rude and uncooperative. theyll either say yes and never do it or give useless attitude.

Room Tip: corner rooms have large glass wondows and make the room too hot or too cold.. avoid at all costs. Al...

The Grand Chancellor Singapore is a large, decent hotel located on the western side of Little India, about 300 metres away from the Little India metro stop. I stayed here for four nights around Xmas as part of a Singapore Stopover Holiday package, which is a real bargain.

I had a premium room on one of the highest floors. Through the large window on one side, the room had a spectacular view of the city and the Sir Veeramakaliamann temple below. I needed a place to chill for a few days and this room with a panoramic view was a good place to do it.

The room itself was large, clean and rather nice. Good, large bed. Modern bathroom, although a little on the small side. The room had a fridge and a coffee maker with plenty of coffee and tea. The TV had an English television station or two, less than what I would expect at a hotel of this calibre in Singapore. Wifi was available in the room, but for a fee.

I had a problem with the occupant of the room opposite mine not closing his door. I could hear everything.

There were a group of people down the hall (probably a family with multiple rooms) who were being very noisy in the hallway. In particular, the children were coming and going from one room to the other.

I didn’t try the breakfast at the hotel. Neither the breakfast nor the breakfast room reflected the general standards of the hotel.

The pool was not large and deep enough for swimming laps.

The lifts were on the slow side and often seemed to be filled with people.

Little India is an interesting area to explore, especially the temple next door; however, if you want to bypass it all, the metro will whisk you away to points more central three or four stops away. The metro in Singapore is cheap, clean and efficient.

In the immediate area of the hotel there were plenty of shops (mostly Indian), convenience stores and other amenities. There are some fine Indian restaurants in the area. There is also a hawker court near the metro stop, which leans to Indian food but also has other stalls, including one specializing in western breakfasts. There is also large market in the same complex. Here you can buy fresh fruit and other things. I never did find a dim sum place near the hotel.

This hotel caters mostly to groups from the Indian subcontinent, including families with children. (Although perhaps that's because I was there during the holiday season.) It was odd to be staying in a hotel catering to a single group like this, because ordinarily one expects a hotel to have more of a mix of people.

There is a good deal of traffic in the lobby, which sometimes has the feel of a bus station waiting room (ie luggage piles, people waiting).

I got quite annoyed at the queue-jumping at the reception desk. Some of the guests and tour organizers were clearly not used to queueing. I also felt that some of these people were being rather demanding towards the reception and other staff.

I don’t agree with the earlier reviewers who criticize the service provided by the staff at this hotel. I thought the reception staff, concierge staff and cleaning staff seemed to be coping with it well. This hotel is particularly good at handling Indian groups.

I stayed here because I booked at the last minute during peak season and no other SSH hotel was available. Despite the very nice room and the low cost, I wouldn’t want to stay here again, primarily because I prefer free wifi in the room and a better selection of TV stations. Also, I’ve seen Little India now and the area is not large enough to support two visits. It's difficult to know how to rate this hotel, but in the end my gut says that I should give it a 2/5 despite the nice room.

The location of the hotel is good but other than that I don't think anything else is good about the place. The staff is vey rude and the bell boys simply are not doing their duty. I don't even want to talk about the food the hotel has to offer, it is terribly cooked and totally bland in taste. All in all worst hotel in singapore! Totally not worth it!
