Ranked #182 of 7,382 Restaurants in Singapore
Cuisines: Chinese, Vegetarian
Description: We read about this restaurant in the official guide to Chinatown published by the Singapore Tourism Board, and we were lucky enough to find it on a recent visit to Chinatown. It's a small restaurant run by a husband and wife that serves a set menu of organic, vegetarian Chinese food. The menu changes each day, and during our lunch there were 3 choices: a vegetarian wrap, brown rice set, or a delicious tofu/noodle dish. The owner was very welcoming, spoke English, and suggested a meal for us since it was our first visit. The prices were very reasonable, and it had a nice, quiet atmosphere with pictures of the Dalai Lama and Buddhist statues on the walls. The restaurant has already been reviewed on Hungry Go Where, a food review site for Singapore: http://www.hungrygowhere.com/singapore/ci_yan_organic_vegetarian_health_food/

“Just organic”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 23, 2012 via mobile

This is a make shift restaurant. Do not expect anything more in terms of comfort. The food was good but really nothing special. I'd make the same food at home if I was not trying very hard. The ingredients are all organic and priced at 5-6$ a dish, its worth it.
If you are happy for a no frills restaurant with a 4 dish organic menu for $5-6 then this is the place for you.
Personally I felt there was room for a little effort to make this a restaurant.

“Relieved to find this Veggie haven!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 12, 2012

We'd just got off a flight from London, found our hostel (Wink) around the corner, and were tired and hungry. So were delighted to find this little place near the end of Smith Street. There's a chalk board menu inside, only a few dishes but take a look at what others are eating to see which you fancy. We had one of each of the main courses, one was a curry with rice, the other a noodle dish. Both great, fresh, and just what we wanted - great value. I think it was about £10 in total.
Really local atmosphere too.. i think the owner's wife was podding beans behind us for the following days menu!

“Casual atmosphere and great meals...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 15, 2011

This is a lovely casual restaurant that offers very clean and comfortable dining.

There are a selection of meals on the dinner board and both the dishes we chose were delicious. The meals are reasonably priced and the service was very friendly.

“Best Vegetarian Food in Singapore!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 2, 2011

The food here was amazing! And so cheap! Everything organic. The menu is small, but everything is made fresh everyday. The man who owns the place is so nice and says hello to all the customers. It is easy to find - just off South Bridge Road in Chinatown on Smith Street. This place is a must for eating in Singapore!

“Delicious healthy food...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2011

I have had food all around China Town, and they all sell the regular oily non-vegeterian food...but this place was out of the ordinary. The food tasted super home made, the host was affectionate...and the restaurant felt very cosy, welcoming and "at-home". Stool style low sitting coupled with homely food...and an "ordinary" buddhist interior helps you relax from the hustle and bustle of all urban singapore.
When you are tired..of all the outside restaurant food..and want something tasty, healthy and simple...go to Ci Yan.
Try their brown rice set meal...and if available the vermicelli mized vegetable broth soup.
