“Value for money.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2013

We booked a room for our family of four for a two day visit to Singapore. Even prior to check in, I was impressed with the promptness with which the manager responded to my emails. We had two rooms with an adjoining door. Clean and adequate, small bathroom with basic toiletries provided.

Our flight came in at 7 a.m. And they gave us a double bedroom to use (for 30SGD) until our allocated rooms became available.
Two dogs and a cat live on premises- adds to the charm.
There's a 24 hour food court across the road, so theres no shortage of authentic and cheap eats. If you're looking for a modest place to stay, this is well worth considering. I will definitely be coming back.

Singapore is expensive. This hotel is 1 level above budget $$. Beds very comfortable. Toilet and shower is one room so everything gets wet when showering. No extra towels provided to wipe surfaces dry. Breakfast is same every day and comprises cereal, toast, scrambled eggs and tea/coffee. Very basic. Hotel is within Little India precinct. A 10 to 15 minute walk to railway station and shopping centre, but otherwise close to town and services. Friendly and pleasant staff willing to help when requested. Manager's pets also reside on premises and roam about the general public areas, including the dining room! Travelled with a friend, so booked triple room to have more space. Was just enough room for two. Think 3 persons would be too squeezy. I would stay here again.

Room Tip: Request a room on an upper floor and at the back of the building away from the lift and main road.

Rooms are small, but good enough for the ones that want to visit singapore during the day and have a comfortable good night of sleep after that. Good sized bed, good air con, no problems of noise. Bathroom is again small, but clean and look recently renovated, shower doesn't have curtains and everything else around get wet, but we didn't find it a problem. Friendly staff, cute dogs and cat :), basic breakfast. Metro is 10min walking from there. Only complaints: TV reception was bad & wi-fi didn't work.
I didn't find it cheap, but hotels in singapore aren't cheap, and if you compare to other prices Madras Eminence is a good value. If you want a better room you will need to be willing to pay more.

Stayed at the hotel 16-20 Nov 2012. Nice if fairly basic 3 level hotel with elevator, washing machine, dryer, iron, free wifi, free breakfast. I booked a single room thru agoda, got it when they had a flash sale. When I arrived, the 3.5m x 4m room had a king size bed, fairly spacious 2m x2m ensuite bathroom (the residential valuer in me coming out), none of the horror stories that I've read about cramped claustrophobic windowless rooms with glass bathrooms and had expected as a result. My room had a bank of windows with floor to ceiling block out curtains, an efficient air con (an absolute essential IMO), a flat screen tv, a desk that spanned the length of a wall, mirror, stool, bedside tables, wall sconces with spotlight and dimmer, built in wardrobe. If this reads a bit like a valuation report, bear with me.

The hotel is located near the corner of Lavander St and Jalan Besar, opposite (ish) Lavander St Food Court. I found some taxi drivers found it easier if you mention the food court. That was one of the cons: the hotel was rather out of the way. Lavander St MRT was a bus ride away, Farrer was at least 15 mins walk. There are bus stops close by and the bus drivers are friendly and will help out. Mustafa was at least 3 blocks away (not counting little alley ways), City Plaza Mall about 10 mins walk. One of the bonuses I found was it's proximity to Mustafa, which at 10pm was still heaving with people, so when I decided to visit at 2.30am it wasn't a drama.

The night clerks behind the desk are good and aware. So if you stagger in after 3am sloshed on Singapore slings, they will help you to your room if needed. So, did I spend a lot of time in my room to really appreciate it? Probably not. This is one of the reasons I book a fairly priced hotel because I spend it elsewhere.

My flight was scheduled really late and I asked them if I could leave my bag and pick it up later. Not an issue. So would I recommend this hotel? Sure.

Nice place for stay- Rooms were very clean and breakfast was ok in this price range. Room itsel was not very big but everything needed was there. Good food court is almost opposite of hotel. Metro stations were bit far but if you like walking or learn to use buses, that's no problem at all.

Very reasonable hotel. Room was nice and clean. Seems to have been recently renovated.
Staff quite friendly. Good location with a 24hr hawker centre across the street serving good food at bargain prices.
A number of nearby MRT stations, but I think Boon kheng is the most convenient - still a 5-7min walk though. Some cute resident pets add a little fun to the place.

We stayed at Madras Hotel Eminence for a total of 2 nights. We booked it online and it was the only hotel that allowed 5 adults and and 1 child. We booked a connecting room, 1 room had two single beds, the other room had one queen size and 1 single bed.

Our flight arrived at dawn, so we asked them if we could check-in early. The were very easy to talk to and allowed us early check-in for a very minimal fee. The room was spotless and very clean, the bathroom looks very new with rain shower.

The room was complete with LCD TV, an electric thermos in case you need water, complimentary water everyday, they also change your towels and linens everyday. They also have free wifi at the room but it was slow on our room since it was at the last floor but it was ok.

Our group had to leave for Malaysia for 3 days, so we asked them if we could leave our items since we were going to stay another day when we come back for Malaysia. They were also very nice to give us storage for our bags.

Madras Hotel Eminence is walking distance from Lavender MRT. So its very accessible if you are coming from the airport. But take note, walking distance in Singapore means a couple of blocks walk. If you have a lot of luggage to carry, you may take a cab from the MRT stop to the hotel for just SGD4.

We also liked the location because its very quiet and not crowded. And if you need food, a hawker center is just across the street and is open 24hrs. There's also a 7Eleven next to the hawker center.

And shopping is very accessible, Mustafa Center a few blocks away (walking distance), and Bugis is also very near(one MRT stop away).
