“Great value for money!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 14, 2012

I had a good experience recently at Zhou Kitchen at Square 2. We ordered a 4 person lunch set@$78 which consist of a double-boiled soup, 2 dim sum, curry fish head, poached veg, roast chicken, rice and dessert. It was great value for money and every dish was done pretty well, especially the roast chicken which has crispy skin and tender meat that melt in the mouth. Service was also good too with attentive staff. The only negative feedback on the food was that the curry fish head would be better if there were taro (or yam). My good experience probably explains why the restaurant is almost full house during a weekday.

“Dinner bother”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed December 9, 2012

We eat at Zhou's Kitchen - the motto is food like mother used to make - glad I was not her son. The only saving grace were huge portions - always a problem when ordering Chinese food in a new country - you either get too much or too little. Pity the quality was not better

“Avoid”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed November 21, 2012

Went there to check out the dim sum buffet. Was told the buffet is for table of 4+ only. Bummer. We ordered some dishes from the menu. Below average and a rip off. Felt cheated. Avoid at all costs.

“Should be called MSG Kitchen”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed May 8, 2012

Walked pass this restaurant many times and decided to do a take out one evening. Ordered the stir fried vegetable (kailan) with garlic and fried seafood rice noodle (hor fun).

The vegetable definitely felt overpriced - $7 for about 10 stalks, so literally 70cents per stalk. It was tasty enough - with deep friend garlic bits and stir fried garlic bits.
The rice noodle was tasty enough too with fish, scallops and prawns. It is 15 bucks.

Overall, food is OK. A tad expensive but expected given the location. However, it is laden with MSG. The moment I am done with dinner, I felt like I have not drank for days... I hate MSG and it is just too common in Singapore.

I tried this place again for lunch with people from work - set lunch and it was ehhhh. The rice was cold and the Grandma's claypot pork was a bit too fatty. The set came with soup and it was not bad but it has a lot of chicken fat bits floating - so that was a bit of a put off. The lunch set came with chives dumplings as appetizer - nothing to shout about. I don't mind the dumpling because I like chives but the sweet sauce that it was coated with left nothing to desire for. The set is about $8 but with taxes and they charge for plain water, it is about $10-$11.

Service - well, it is a Chinese restaurant and it is in Singapore. So, absolutely nothing to look forward to.

I may do a take out again for dinner when desperate but I will not go back for lunch again unless I am craving for MSG. Oh wait.. that will be never.

Note: Food is average but I will give it a poor rating since credits are due to MSG.
