The food was decent for the price. Environment was fine too, being rather family-friendly (they even have a buffet counter for kids, which we felt was rather thoughtful), and the beach was only a two-minutes' walk away, allowing for a nice after-meal stroll. However, the service was absolutely disappointing.
When we arrived, we were greeted by a service staff who could not understand English. After a couple of attempts, we gave up and switched to Mandarin to explain that we had made a booking for 7 persons, and we had to take the reservations list from her to point out which entry in that list was ours. Yes, it was that simple, but she failed to understand it when we said it in English! She then brought us to our table, and another of her colleagues then rushed over and told us to sit somewhere else, as that table was for another group. They then had a rather heated argument about whom that table was reserved for, right in front of us, and in Mandarin. After a couple of minutes, one of them turned to us and said "Wait!", and they then proceeded elsewhere to continue their argument, while we stood there wondering what was next. It was only a few minutes later that another person came to ask (finally, in English) why we were standing around the table, looking lost, and told us to just take our seats at the table and ignore her other two colleagues, who, for the record, never came back to us.
While the restaurant was only slightly more than half-full the day we went for lunch, service was still terrible in other ways too. It took a great deal of effort (and patience) to catch the attention of the service staff, and even after we had managed to do so, it took more than 5 minutes each time for them to attend to requests for drinking glasses to be filled.
Even when it was time to do the bill, we also faced problems. I had to again explain in Mandarin to the service staff that I had already left my credit card with the cashier earlier and that they could proceed with charging the bill to that card. Then, came the shocker, that they could not find that card, and they needed me to produce another card to settle the bill. 3 conversations with other service staff, and about 15 minutes later, they finally found my card "somewhere", at a place they could not explain. We were just relieved when we stepped out of that place after what felt like ages.
While other aspects of the dining experience were probably reasonably good, they cannot compensate for the incompetence displayed by the service staff. I think it is no exaggeration to say that in this case, even fast food joints, not to mention almost every other hotel's restaurant in Singapore, beats them hands down. I would not recommend this place to anybody!
