I'm so glad we didn't listen to the bad reviews we had read on this site. We loved the hotel and really couldn't fault it. Check in was very smooth and easy- they let us check in 3 hours before official check-in time as we arrived early with small children. The receptionist said priority is given to those travelling with tired children from early morning flights, which we really appreciated.
We thought the lobby area was great. People have complained about the darkness, but we appreciated that it wasn't glaringly bright when coming inside from the heat. We enjoyed the ambient light. The band was also great on the weekends.
The buffet dinner is absolutely amazing- ourselves and the friends we travelled with all agreed that it was the best buffet we had ever had. We didn't have breakfast included as we liked trying different places, and there are many restaurants within walking distance from the hotel. Having said that, we did eat breakfast a couple of times in the hotel and it was great with a huge range of food. We didn't have to line up for more than a couple of minutes.
The room was huge and easily accommodated the 4 of us- 2 adults and 2children- with twin beds and a pull out bed. It was clean and tidy. When we arrived the toilet button wouldn't flush, and a call to reception had a maintenance man straight up to our room and he fixed it straight away. Reception was always very helpful and polite. The staff at the front of the hotel were especially helpful with organising transport as well as suggesting activities for us.
The pool area is just amazing and perfect for kids- especially small ones as the sandy bank is nice and shallow. The whole pool is quite shallow which allowed our 8 year old and his friends the freedom to explore the pool without us constantly by his side. He absolutely loved the pool. The lifeguards are attentive, and were straight over to a small child who had wandered into the pool away from his parents. The pool bar staff are also attentive and polite. We also had no trouble getting sun loungers every day when we wanted them.
The hotel allowed us a late checkout at no extra charge which meant we could stay by the pool on our last day and change in our own room for the airport, which we appreciated.
Overall we wouldn't hesitate in returning to Hard Rock, and were so sad to leave!
Singapore in general ( especially Sentosa) is absolutely amazing, and we had the best holiday!
A few tips- Sentosa:
The port of lost wonder is awesome for kids and only costs $10 per child with adults free.
The crane dance is on every night near the s.e.a. Aquarium and is fantastic, especially for the kids.
Songs by the sea is also amazing.
S.e.a. Aquarium is a must see.
Universal studios is awesome, but pay the extra for the express tickets so you don't have to line up. It may be a bit more expensive but its worth it. We got them, and skipping to the front of the line instead of lining up for over an hour per ride really made our day enjoyable.
Catch the monorail to Vivo city for great shopping. Hard rock will give you free passes for the monorail so you don't have to pay.
The luge is great and worth doing.
The Malaysian street food mall has delicious food and is very reasonably priced.
The cloud forest is awesome, but I'd probably skip the flower dome unless you're really interested in the flowers!
There aren't a lot of currency exchangers around so we found it easier to change our money at the hotel.
Night safari is a fantastic experience especially for the kids.
Singapore zoo is beautiful and you can feed animals for $5 each. Our kids fed giraffes!
We also took a day trip to legoland Malaysia, which the kids loved and so did we. Really easy to cross the borders with our passports. We took a private coach as it meant we could nominate what time they picked us up from our hotel, rather than having to meet at a destination point by 8am.
Overall singapore is a fantastic holiday destination- so clean, safe, polite and helpful Singaporeans, delicious food, and heaps of fun activities and sites to see. Can't wait to go back!
