We stayed at the Hard Rock for 4 nights on our Journey home from our 3 week holiday. We thought it would be nice to unwind and relax before we got home.
From Singapore airport we caught a train to Harbourfront station. The ticket cost was about $2-3, which is nothing. Once at Harbourfront station, go up a one level and jump on the monorail to Sentosa Island. If your a guest of the hotel, you get free travel on the monorail during the period of your stay. I have to say one down fall to this way of getting to the hotel, is dragging your suitcases through Sentosa open shopping mall to the hotel front. The heat hit us and of course after 3 weeks of travel before along with jet lag, we were buggered. I normally would of just jumped in a taxi, sat back and relaxed, but as we were traveling with another family I needed to take into account their money needs. A taxi would take around 25 minutes (depending on the time of day) and it roughly around $30 (depending on the time of day and what I have been told).
Arriving at the hotel.... The heat was ridiculous and we were exhausted. We had just traveled 3 weeks around Vietnam and was so use to the hospitality. So what a reality check to hotel chances and big business. My friend asked if she could get a glass of water at check in, this request had to be made 3 times before she gave up. The Hard Rock Hotel could learn a few things about greeting their guest with a hospitable and welcoming cool drink on arrival. Saying this the check in staff were lovely. Don't forget to ask for your monorail passes when checking in.
The hotel is absolutely beautiful. The decor is wonderful and its great to check out everything as your making your way to your room. Arriving at our room wasn't disappointing either. The decor flowed into our room and it was just so cool. We booked a Twin double for our family and one of the beds had a pull out trundle. Beds were so comfortable and clean.
Breakfast the next morning was a little interesting. We ventured down to the hotel dinning room to make a breakfast enquiry and the cost, $30 each. A little rich for my liking, only because we were spoilt from our Vietnam holiday and thinking a family of 4 to spend $120 on breakfast each day x 4 = $480. So we took the option that a lot of hotel goes do, heading out of the hotel and into Sentosa mall. There is a bakery / dinner which does a great breakfast but be prepared it is busy. Otherwise you can just jump on the monorail and head to Harbourtown shopping centre.
The swimming pool is amazing. Sand floor base in one area of the pool and very refreshing. Nothing more needs to be said about the pool. It is what it is and it was LOVELY and refreshing.
Booking tours from the hotel was so easy and staff were very helpful. We took the family to the Night Zoo which a great, but I only wished I had organised my own transport. We took a cheaper option and I only wish we paid that little more. We opted for a coach pick up, rather then getting a taxi to the Zoo. The downfall to our cheaper option was less time. We got picked up in a smaller van then transported to the Singapore eye to get checked off a list. Then instructed to jump on a coach, then checked off another list before our trip could begin. We hit traffic and our trip took longer. Arrived at zoo and then shuttled around like school kids. There was no advantage to booking the group. I only wish I organised a private car to drive us to the Zoo. The night zoo hours are 7.30pm to midnight. By going by coach we had to leave by 10pm, which we could of slowed down a bit and enjoyed ourselves a bit more.
Overall the Hard Rock Singapore is a beautiful hotel with all the luxuries you could ask for, but you will have to pay for this.
