“Good Indian food, worth it”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 6, 2013

During our stay at Sentosa, we were missing Indian especially vegetarian food and decided to go to this restaurant at Palawan beach for dinner. Access is by beach tram from Beach station. The food was quite fresh and good overall although the rotis were thicker than they should be. Service was good too. Its a good peaceful place on the beach and definitely worth it if you're looking for Indian food on Sentosa Island.

“Great Location, Average food, Impersonal service”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 28, 2012

Good Points:

Location: Samundar is located at a fantastic location bang on Palawan beach at Sentosa. With beautiful views, lovely breeze flowing in from the sea and the sound of the waves (and the Indian songs) playing in the restaurant's speakers the setting is perfect.

Good options: Ample variety to choose from makes it interesting. Good options for Vegetarians as well.

Negative points:

Average Food: Mind you, when I say average , it's not at all bad, but it isn't something that will blow your nuts off either. The quantity / portion is on the lower side, so if I a group, bear this in mind while ordering.

Poor Service: The restaurant seemed to be short staffed and there seemed to be many times, only one person (waiter) doing everything for all tables. The service was very impersonal. People go to Sentosa to have a smile on their faces. This restaurant's waiters or any staff, for that matter, never did that, nor did they do anything that would bring a smile to the customers faces. The service was not bad, in terms of wrong food cmoing on to your table or mistakes in billing. Things happened as expected, orders came on time, but there was just no soul in the service. Very cold.

Samundar seems to take full (and undue) advantage of the fact that it is the only option on the entire Sentosa Island for Indian food. And Indians being world famous for their preference to stick to Indian food, will go there even if pigs and dogs served the food there. When you know the customer will come to your place because of lack of options, there are two options. Either you can go the Samundar way or you can make the most of the opportunity and give the patrons a memorable experience of a meal @ Sentosa Island that will last for a lifetime.

What we would really like, is for a competitor, another Indian food place at Sentosa. That will either force Samundar to improve (read, learn to smile and care) or shut shop.

“Horrible customer service”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed June 10, 2012

We were extremely disappointed by horrible customer service displayed by Samundar restaurant waiter(s) on recent visit to Singapore. The waiter, by his own admittance, treated us wrongly on 3 occasions in our 40 minutes of horrible stay at this restaurant. He was racist & rude. We left the food in the middle of our lunch, paid our bills in full and asked him for his manager's number to pass on "how we felt" but he was so scared that he didn't divulge any number or contact for his manager or company he works for. I wish manager for Samundar restaurant is reading this and will contact me on their own so I can share gory details of our horrible experience !

“Ok for Indian food, nice atmosphere”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 19, 2012

During our holiday in Sentosa between the 9th and 16th of March, 2012, we dinner here 3 times - twice for dinner and once for lunch. Dining here was more of a necessity than a choice simply bcoz my wife can't go for more than 2 days without food. The food is average but as you can sit in the open dining area almost on the shores of the Palawan beach, you don't really mind it too much. If you are not an Indian, do try to tell them to lower the spice in their dishes. The service is really a dampner as it seemed to me that the staff were more keen to finish with the last order at night and wind up rather than being courteous to the guests. Don't forget to order your Tiger beer to soak in the cool waves especially at night. Overall if you are looking for Indian food in Sentosa then this is probably the only place. It's recommended to take the free tram service from the Palawan Beach station to and fro if you are planning to dine here. Note that their cut off to place the last order @ the restaurant is 9 PM.
