Kiwilodge Hotel - a home in Cebu
Kiwilodge Hotel was recommended to me by the S Leyte operator of a dive resort - as the place he enjoyed while on his periodic escapes from provincial life to Cebu City.
I now understand why.
As claimed, it provides "basic" accommodation of standard through deluxe form, within walking distance of SM Cebu, at a reasonable cost (Ps1200/nt. Std. Room)!
The location is just off a main road and is two Ps8 Jeepney rides (for the adventurous) to Osmena Circle / Mango St. entertainment or to Ayala centre. Taxi rides are about Ps100 to the Port or Bus Terminal. To the airport is, I expect, more.
In the small three story walk-up hotel itself there is a nice bar, pool table and restaurant serving primarily British / Australian fare of excellent quality. Try the fish & chips or meat pies, if you are missing those, or the (not overly spicy) Hungarian Goulash.
At the ajacent bar there is cable-tv and free Wi-Fi as attractions, along with the charming and attentive staff. There is usually a group of local and transient westerner expats around. You might be send a "free drink" token as, well, a token of friendship. A simple "salute" of acknowledgement seems to suffice in return.
The rooms are clean, made-up daily, with good linen and towels, and single-use shampoo and soap provided. All rooms have small flat-screen TVs with Cable feed and room service & Laundry (per piece) available.
All in all, especially considering the price and friendly service, Kiwi Lodge Hotel is a good place to stay short term, if your are looking for good value and service.
Book ahead, it seems ro be busy.
