“Great Island Adventure”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 24, 2012

OUr 3 day trip to Sumilon Island was truly adventure filled! We landed at Mactan airport and headed straight to our 3 hour journey to Oslob (they says its 2.5 hour only) with lots of nice old churches and towns to see on the way. Upon arriving at Sumilon Bluewater Resort, service was swift and efficient as our bags were carried to our large bedroom. Food could be better but the service was superb, the staff try their utmost best to give us what we want and that makes the difference. We scheduled our whaleshark watching the next day which surprisingly was just a 7 minute boat ride from the island. The whalesharks were artificially fed by the fishermen to make them go to the surface of the water-this could very well cause a DISTURBANCE IN THE ECOSYSTEM. I think the province of Oslob should work alongside Marine Biologists to determine, an environmentally safe method for tourists to swim with the sharks. While on the positive side it brings in the tourists, but the LONG TERM Impact of this attraction must be examined!!!
Back to the resort-the 40 minute or so trek up the hill that led up to the old lighthouse/watchtower was quite a thrill. No flipflops please, USE proper footwear.! The view going up is breathtaking. The canoe ride and fish feeding is relaxing and quite pleasant to do especially with younger children. The beach has has a strip of white sandbar with nice shells and is safe for swimming/snorkelling, use swim shoes please. Over-all i would recommend the trip only to more adventurous families/couples:)

“Enchanting Island”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 24, 2012

I went there with my boyfriend and all i experienced about the place was really fantastic!!

The island resort offers 2 options for visitors.

1. day time package trip
2. overnight stay

-free sea transport from the mainland to Sumilon island and vice versa (according to schedule.)
-free lunch and the use of all the facilities and amenities such snorkeling and kayaking.
I think scuba diving is not free of charge..
-you can trek the island for almost an hour ..just the follow the colorful banners and you will never get lost..While doing so, take some snapshots of the SOLE lighthouse of the island and the caves that are maintained by the caretakers.

In addition, the CRYSTAL BLUE WATER of the island is really unforgettable for me.
You can even see the small fish swimming just below your feet when you view them from the wooden dock.

Also, the really like the view of the infinity pool that is placed right close to the restaurant... it is very relaxing.

Although we stayed there for just a day and no room in the hotel, we were able to take some needed sleep on the hammocks and native beds they have placed near the lagoon area and near the hotel rooms..

The hotel rooms are expensive actually but it is worth it.
.I think, this place is good for honeymooning ^^

“Sumilon Island : Cebu's tiny island in the south”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 17, 2012

This is a tiny island but one will still take several hours to be able to walk around it. A small portion is a tiny white sand beach of about 2000+ square meters. The white sand is far from the powder sands of Boracay though. As you hit the water, expect rock size corals and it's all over - nothing a good pair of booties can handle. On a low tide, you'll need to be several hundred feet before the water becomes deep. Not much to see underwater. But the clear jewel-colored water should be very good reason to enjoy this place.

We went for the day only. Just a few hours stay to me was sufficient. From a distance, one sees the islands of Bohol, Apo, Siquijor, Cebu and Negros Oriental. Amazing sight, awesome experience.

There is a resort on one side of the island facing Bohol called Sumilon BlueWater. Rates are about P15,000/room for two persons including all three meals. They have a nice fresh water pool and has 15 rooms. P900 for a meal per person if you intend to visit. Keep in mind that everything is brought in from the Mainland of Cebu - which explains the relatively high cost but really, it seems reasonable. The resort's beach is not good though but i did see several schools of parrot fish and many others. Including what seemed to be a lone baby shark that measured 15" - probably. The place is quite nice and rustic, definitely nothing manicured. I will post a few photos soon.

A security is on standby close to the access to the Sumilon BlueWater resort.

With the changing of the tide, you'll note the changes in the formation of the beach which really just sits on one end of the island.

Also to be explored would be the Lighthouse, the Yamashita Caves and several others.

From a distance, you will immediately notice the lush vegetation. The soil was unusual to me as it was chocolate brown. We went on a Sunday and there must have been 40 people or so. Some were going for their diving lesson while others were there to just laze and enjoy the place.

Note : no public toilets, no showers, no bars, no restaurant, no power, no huts.

“Excellent island for a relaxing trip”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 18, 2012

Went here for a 3 day 2 night trip. We went via the Dumaguete route as it's a lot shorter compared to flying in via Cebu. The port for the Fast Craft is 15mins away from the Dumageute Airport, the boat ride is 20mins. On the Oslob dock, it's another 10mins to take you to the port of Sumilon, which is another 15mins away by Sumilon's boat. This will vary depending on wind and the waves.

The food when served ala carte was excellent as we got the full board meals travel package. When they served the buffet, it was a "hit-or-miss" as buffets lower the food quality as it's prepared in bulk.

I loved the sand bar and the snorkeling as it's a marine sanctuary. Bring your beach shoes as the corals can scratch especially when the tide is low. They have the snorkeling gear available by the equipment hut. There is a also a maintained seawater lake where you can kayak around. The only downside on the trip was the massage too hard which I found to be too hard / painful.

The room was really spacious, and they maintain a small number of people to use the island at any given time so it's not overly crowded.

A lot of Koreans flock to the place as well for a day trip, some stay for the weekend.

Highly recommended! This is where we stayed when we swam with the whale sharks in Oslob.

“Chill”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 5, 2012

It's a small island so if you're looking for action, this is not the place for you. It is beautiful and the rooms are huge, so are the bathrooms. Now if only the food were a little better.
