Me and a friend stayed for two nights in Boracay for some post-summer getaway, July 22-23, 2013, with no hotel reservation. We intended to do it "cowboy" style since we know it was low season and there would be plenty of free rooms. It was a blessing in disguise that La Carmela (which was beside Alice Hotel) was fully booked, we even got a better deal at a much lower cost.
They say that third time's a charm. Indeed it was, Alice was the third hotel we looked into and we instantly loved the room we checked. Studio room costs us only 1600php/night, good for two persons. It was a deals considering the amenities the room offers in comparison to other hotels in the island. It comes with a television that we only used once because we stayed outdoor most of the times or we just go back to rest then back to "lamyerda". They also provided a mini refrigerator stock with soft drinks, water and beer but you have to pay for it. We opted not to because it costs a little bit higher than on what is being sold on the nearby grocery.
The bed was large enough for us. The sheets they provided was too thin considering it was rainy season but that did not stop us to take a nap before exploring the island on our first day because we were too exhausted when we arrived at the island, having taken two flights with a 2-hour stop in Manila with some air turbulence along the way.
The breakfast was okay. It was a helping of two eggs according to your desired way of cooking, bacon, a toast and a choice between coffee and hot chocolate. We weren't able to fully consume the meal because we just had a big glass of fresh hot taho while waiting for our breakfast and experiencing Boracay morning by the seashore at 6am.
We weren't able to check the pool area in their sister property which is a 5-minute walk away from the hotel since it was really the beach that we came for. The hotel is just across the Police Station and within the tourist road which makes it accessible to all areas in the island.
When we asked for the best island activity, they recommended Allan B. Fun Tours for our island activity where we got another steal. We were able to get helmet diving, 6-hour island hopping with buffet lunch (unlimited food & drinks + 1 bottle of beer) and ATV tour to Mt. Luho for only 1700php/person. A full-day activity that lasted from 8am-6pm including travel time. A pretty good deal right? Thanks to the staff who recommended them.
The waiting and longing since January 2013, the time we avail the promo fare of Philippines Airlines, was all worth it. An added bonus of our stay was we're able to meet two Vietnamese women whom we instantly became friends with. So to those saying that this ain't a paradise no more, I beg to disagree! The lapping of the waves by the seashore, the feel of the fine pale cream-ish sand beneath your feet, fresh air in the morning, the breathtaking sunset and sunrise, and many innumerable thing that the island can offer, It is still a paradise for me along with the thousands of tourists who was there.
I totally recommend Alice Hotel when you visit Boracay! I would still stay in this hotel on our next visit. :) Thank you!
