“Our Second Visit to the Strand - Just as Wonderful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 19, 2009

Our first visit to the Strand resort was for a seven nights over Christmas 2007. We are an American family of five (kids 15, 13, 11) living in Shanghai and wanted to visit a world-class beach and stay in a nice place that wasn't the center of the party scene. After a lot of research we chose the Strand. And we were extremely pleased.

The Strand is a 2 minute walk from the big end of White Beach, where the finest and whitest sand is located (from Willy's rock on "up" is the best sand). The beach is also the biggest there and the ocean is as good as it gets - drops off slowly and no coral. We would spend all day on the beach and in the water.

We had such a good time in '07 and enjoyed the Strand so much that we went back for another seven nights over Christmas '08. The Strand even put us in the same room! We loved it.

The Strand is as described: a quiet, well groomed, landscaped/gardened resort that works well for families as well as couple and individuals. Their pool is fantastic as it self-chlorinates using a salt process and the water is very soft and comfortable. Our kids spent a lot of time in the pool, usually towards the end of each day.

The rooms are nice and are relatively decent sized with a veranda. The resort itself is well-built. The owners did not skimp during the construction of the buildings or the landscaping.

The staff is very kind and attentive - they even helped change our airline departure times and get us new tickets so we could stay an extra day! The food is very good. An evening having dinner there is enjoyable, sitting in the comfortable Mahogany Lounge savoring the well prepared food. The owners, Mats and Pinky, are wonderful, down-to-earth people who treat their guests and staff well. As someone wrote, the Strand almost has a sort-of B&B feel.

The location is off the beach and that is probably the biggest drawback. But we didn't want something that would be too busy or rowdy. And Mats & Pinky built a wonderful resort that is so beautiful that it is actually a nice retreat from the beach. And it’s just a short walk away.

We love Boracay, we love the Strand. We hope to return again. We highly recommend the resort - unless you are the party-hardy type then please go elsewhere.

Stayed in the Strand with my family for a week, we got the penthouse and one standard room. It was the only resort who replied very quicky and courteously to my query and they left me to make the decision in which rooms to take. The reservation staff was very patient and understanding and she replied very quicky through email. We were picked up on time from the airport as we got the exclusive transfers from them. Upon arrival at the resort, we were very impressed by the surroundings, there were lots of trees and plants. It was very relaxing!!. We ordered a late lunch; food has to be ordered 30 minutes in advanced caused they have to cook it, i think they don´t have precooked foods or frozen foods in the fridge that´s why you have to be patient. The sinigang was very delicious, we loved it. I think i odered sinigang na baboy thrice, my brother even wanted it for breakfast!!! The Penthouse was an ideal place to stay, it was very spacious and there was so much natural light. The shower didn´t work well, the water wasn´t very strong. We didn´t report this to the reception cause I think we were just too busy enjoying ourserlves that it didn´t bother us that much. Breakfast was ok, you have to advise them the day before what you would like to have and the time that you would have it.
The hotel staff were very friendly, they always had a smile on their faces and they always greet you. They respect your privacy too. The pool was great, the temperature was just right.
Yes, the resort it kinda far from the main action BUT it was ideal for us. The center of the island has become very crowded and noisy. And we went to boracay to relax, not to party. We just took a trike or walked to D´mall if we wanted to buy or see something. The little pathway going to the resort from the beach wasn´t well lighted at night, so it kinda freaked out my husband. but the villagers were always there hanging out, so it kinda made him felt safe.
We definitely enjoyed our stay there and would love to come back soon

Terrific people, nice rooms, good food, and the best hosts (owners Pinkie and Mats made all the guests there feel like family - almost like a B&B, than a lodge).

Pluses; quiet oasis, free bfast, nice pool, wireless internet (though weak), and their standard room with living area is perfect for two young kids to sleep.
Minuses; at the far end of the beach, about 200 meters from the beach.

Free dvd's to borrow, friendly staff, and quiet garden are all there to enjoy!

I loved out stay there and would stay there again next time. It's a little further down the beach and not a beach front property. I love their pool. there was not a hint of chlorinated smell that you usually associate with swimming pools. great customer service, very attentive staff. one other thing i should mention and i read it here before from another user is that they are located right next to a cemetery. its not as bad as you'd think it is. it did kinda freaked me out initially though. all around i was very pleased with our stay.

the resort was nice, very nice except for the location. it was too far from the beach and the action =) very very nice rooms! especially the 1bedroom units and up.

good service, clean rooms, nice pool and garden. but the problem really is that the resort is just too far from all the other resorts. you'll find this at the end of the white beach, and not even beach front. you have to walk around 5 minutes from an uncemented road to the beach, and around 15mins to a nicer part of the beach.

it was really nice except for the location. but some people prefer it if you want some peace and quiet. perfect for some people who want to be left alone.

  • Liked — nice rooms & great service
  • Disliked — location of the resort to the beach
