“Spacious apartment with very nice view”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 10, 2013

My family and I spent 4 nights at the Tanawin Apartments in the end of December. The apartments are located in the mountain top next to the zipline. The view from the pool is amazing.

There are not very many units at the hotel, thus there are not too many people in and out. We stayed at Unit #5 that has two bedroom, living area and a kitchen. We loved having a kitchen since we have little ones in our group. It makes putting together quick breakfast and lunches so much easier.

The bathroom is very large and each room are all very spacious. Lots of room for us to gather and for the kids to hang out. The beds and linen are comfortable. The Sofa, dinning room chairs are all very nice. Nice big screen TV, with lots of English channels (Disney, CNN, Discovery, Food Network, TLC, ESPN, etc.). We stayed in one entire day because of a rain storm. So we are grateful for all the space to allow the kids to run around.

The pool area is nice and the room service is actually quite good. The price is reasonable. However, it took the kitchen over an hour to bring us the four dishes that we ordered.

The transportation situation is good. The shuttle bus to the D'Mall is always on time.

We're happy for our stay. The staff is nice and helpful. Will definitely recommend this to my friends.

1 of 5 stars Reviewed December 29, 2012

We had the misfortune to book the Tanawin Hotel for our Christmas holiday in Boracay ,December 2012. See the photos that show the Tanawin we experienced on Dec 22 2012.
Just to advise that I am not a habitual complainer. I have accepted many faults in hotels and travel in several years of travelling all over the world in my employment and never felt the need to complain, I just accepted that sometimes things just happen.
But in regards to the Tanawin Hotel, it made me so angry and disappointed in the owner’s behaviour that I felt I needed to complain and seek a refund.
Our family Christmas vacation was almost completely ruined by the experience we had at the Tanawin Hotel.
First impressions were not good, as there is no reception area. Just a very simple office for the hotel staff and guests have to sit outside the office.
Almost immediately the room payment was taken off my credit card, which was to prove a costly error later.
On the positive side they gave us a room to use before official check in time of 2 pm, which was appreciated after a long travel.
We were given room 5, and it has to be said that the rooms are very nice and in good order. This was only for one night, next day we would move to room 9.
Unfortunately room 5 looks on to the small pool area and you have no privacy what so ever. You need to keep the curtains closed almost at all times.
It was also then that we were to discover that there was a lot of construction work going on. Soon the noise of grinding, hammering and various construction noises began to resound throughout the day.
No one from Tanawin felt it necessary to advise guests in advance of their travel regarding the construction work that was being done.
The opportunity to cancel the booking and lose no money was taken away from us in an almost deceitful way. If we had been warned that this work was on-going, we would have cancelled with in the cancellation period and booked another hotel.
The construction work meant that there was no Terrace Bar with the fantastic 360 degree views as promised, and to discover also that on either side of the hotel are two properties that are basically rubbish yards.
The view from room 9 looked onto a neighbour’s property comprising of lots of rubbish and old portable toilets. Hardly a view to give you that feel good factor at Xmas time.
They also decided to paint the corridor outside our room on the Saturday evening, which resulted in very strong and noxious fumes being present in the room.
On the second day of our stay we decided enough was enough and complained about the situation and requested a refund of the 6 days remaining of our stay there.
The Director of Operations, Archie Lingad, agreed that the situation was not correct and he would try and arrange a refund, but he would need to get approval from higher management first.
We advised that in our view the hotel had failed to deliver the services promised and we wanted a full refund of the 6 days remaining.
The hotel owner, Greg ??, did not want to give a refund.
Instead he offered us an alternative room, but only a smaller 1 bedroom instead of the 2 bedroom we had booked , and even at the other room , the view from the living room still looked onto the yard with the portable toilets . This room was declined, we still wanted a refund.
The owner Greg’s mood then changed. He became rude and wanted to intimidate and bully a guest into accepting a refund based only on his terms. He offered no refund, then 50 % only, then he increased it to 60 % , only to go back to zero refund in the space of a couple of seconds because I dared to ask for more % of a refund.
He then advised that he was going to enforce the cancellation policy and give no refund. Discussion over, take it or leave it option of room 1 or room 9 was all that was now on offer.
We felt by this time that we had effectively been cheated out of a full refund by the fact that they had made no mention of the construction work on-going and this made the cancellation policy null and void.
The behaviour of the owner to us, his guests, at this point made the decision to leave his hotel an easy decision to make. I have never encountered such behaviour from someone who claims to want to provide a professional service to his guests.
On further discussions with the Director of Operations, Archie Lingad, he agreed that he would try to intervene again and arrange a 50 % refund. By this time we just wanted to leave this hotel and the situation that we found ourselves in.
We accepted the 50 % refund, even on this we had to wait two days to get the money back as they could not refund our credit card.
We left the Tanawin Hotel within the hour of agreeing the refund and moved to another hotel on the beach called The District - highly recommended.
The only positive things I can say about Tanawin is that in Archie Lingad they have a very professional manager who knows and understands the way to treat guests, unlike the owner Greg.
The hotel staff are all very pleasant and helpful.
The actual rooms were very big and very nice apartments. But they need to do something regarding the properties next door. Those are not acceptable to remain in the condition that they are and be in full view of guests at this hotel.
Suffice to say we shall certainly never return to this hotel and in no way can we ever recommend it to anyone else.

Another magical time at Tanawin that greatly added to the value of my experience of Boracay. Management and staff are attentive, warm and friendly and never fail to accord a homely feel to my stays. Upgrading with the addition of further rooms and a rooftop bar is in progress hence some construction aspects to contend with but none that affect the beautiful rooms, incredible hilltop views and generous hospitality that I have grown accustomed to here. With the completion of the rooftop bar expected at the end of the year, look forward to panoramic views and sunset delights from the top of Boracay. Definitely a recommended stay!

Room Tip: Higher floors that face the golf course generally have great double beach and greenery views.

The hotel is very nice and our room was beautiful. It was very large with a full kitchen. There were just a couple of minor drawbacks -- in the photo we thought the jacuzzi was large, but it is just a jacuzzi tub, one-person only. The drain in our tub wasn't working, so required a screwdriver to open, which we had to request.

The second issue was unique to our room I think (2b). It's located on the other side of the complex from the main stairs and can be accessed from a secondary staircase. This would be ok, but the gate to our unit was blocked by a hose and electrical cable for the duration of our stay. I think it was for the construction still going on. So we were shown a shortcut from the primary staircase, which went through the laundry room and was a little funky. We had to shuffle past staff as we went by while they did their chores. It was ok, but not a great way to enter a luxury apartment.

Otherwise the room was really very nice. We didn't make much use of the full kitchen though, and you may find that challenging. There's a small store where the shuttle drops you for White Beach, so you could do some small amount of cooking, but I really don't know where you'd go to find more in the way of food to prepare yourself.

The hotel is located about 10 minutes from White Beach and there are free shuttles that run every hour. Be careful on catching it to return to the hotel however. The schedule says they will depart at 15 minutes after the hour, but in practice they depart as soon as they've dropped the passengers from the downhill run. This means you should get there close to the hour so as not to miss the returning shuttle. We missed a couple and so had to sit at the Budget Mart (shuttle stop) for an hour. We did take a tricycle up once for about 200p.

Certainly the best feature is the pool area and the view. One of our nicest meals was breakfast at the pool, with fantastic food and the great view out over the valley to the ocean on two sides of the island. If you stay here I'd recommend planning on dining and spending time here. If you plan on spending all of your time at White Beach, you'd probably be better of staying closer. If you stay at Tanawin, consider having several meals and spending time at the pool or bar. It's just spectacular.

Room Tip: Try to get near the pool or a view to the south.

Our stay at Tanawin this summer was enjoyable, if not luxurious. This property definitely has the appearance of a luxury hotel, and the staff is polite, friendly, and accommodating. However, there is a lot of room for improvement as far as service and environment.

Pros: Appearance- The rooms, the views, and the common areas are impeccably designed and maintained. The beds are comfortable, the kitchens fully equipped, and the balconies comfortably furnished. The pool area is lovely, with amazing views and attractive seating.

People- The staff at Tanawin are very friendly, speak English, and genuinely want to help you. When we had an issue with our AC (See below), they promptly moved us to another room for the night. The drivers on the shuttle were punctual.

Cons: Environment- Despite the beautiful appearance of the facilities, we experienced issues both inside and outside our room. One of our AC units did not work, and there was nonstop construction, with a dull banging from early morning to very late at night. There were also several feral cats (some who were ill and fighting) wandering the property, even in the eating areas and on the balconies. We were told that the new rooptop bar was open daily after 4, but we did not see it open once during our 5-day stay (perhaps because of the rain).

Service- although the people were truly very nice, the service left a lot to be desired. Firstly, we paid for transfers from the airport with our stay, and no one came to get us, leaving us to navigate the trike to boat to trike to van ride up to the resort. Meals at the resort were very slow (though the food was delicious!), averaging about a 20 minute wait for a drink and 45 minutes for breakfast. The housekeeping staff ran out of clean towels on our second day, and beach towels were delivered on our fourth.

Room Tip: We stayed one night in a two bedroom deluxe because of the AC, but I think our regular two bedroom w...

We had an awesome time in Boracay and Tanawin resort was a big part of it. The hotel staff were really helpful/friendly and had a high attention to detail. The resort itself sits on a hilltop among the apex of Boracay so it has a commanding view of the island.

We stayed at Tanawin in early July for 3 nights. Our room was clean and spacious and inline with what you would expect from a luxury hotel with nice bathrooms with rain showers. The kitchen was equipped with whatever you need for cooking your own meals and included a big fridge. The size of the suite made our stay really comfortable. Our boys 11 and 8 really enjoyed the suite and the pool. Dining at the rooftop deck was great - so relaxing to be up above everything, food was good/tasty and prices reasonable. The transportation to/from the hotel to the mall was timely/easy and van was clean/new. This was our first stay in Boracay and it was a great way to explore Boracay by day and retire in comfort afterwards.

Would highly recommend this resort and can't wait to return!

Room Tip: higher floors have best views, but rooftop lounge is open to all and it truly offers 360 degree view...
