“Mixed feelings”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 22, 2014

Just returned from a week at the resort with my Wife and 3 young children and had quite a mixed experience here:

Pros

- huge apartments with great balconies. Very clean.
- fantastic panoramic sea views from all over the resort
- nice friendly staff
- good gym facilities

Cons

- the food in the restaurant is poor. Very average breakfast. Lunch and dinner options were almost all western (strange for a resort in Asia) and quite unappetising. We had to send a number of dishes back.
- the resort is not really set up for young kids despite the obvious family appeal of the suites. The pool ( while very nice) has no shallow end (5ft deep throughout) and the children's playground consists of an old metal slide and swing tucked away.
- the resort is quite remote. They run a good bus service, but if you miss it you can't easily get into town.
- very little atmosphere, and no real attempt to create one - happy hour not advertised, no promotions or entertainment on site.

All in all, while we enjoyed our stay in Boracay, we found ourselves wishing we were closer to town and spent most of our time in the white beach area. The resort really doesn't try very hard to encourage guests to spend time or spend money there (seems to rely on the view). We wanted to spend more time their and with a better restaurant option and restaurant we definitely would have done.

This was my first time in Boracay and I arrived tired from a week working in Tokyo. I travel extensively and have never experienced hotel staff as friendly, courteous, and attentive. The ocean view from my room was spectacular. I was not able to enjoy the many activities that the island offers due to work, but working on my computer from my room's veranda was an unexpected pleasure. I was able to break away to White Sands Beach a couple times and enjoy the many shops and restaurants but happily returned to the tranquility of Monaco Suites. The resort deserves the highest rating.

Is there anything more disappointing than after saving and planning and dreaming of your vacation you arrive and are let down? Our reaction was the exact opposite. We stayed here with our two sons (8 and 6) and loved every minute of it. We had requested a room near the pool and were given 242 which literally could not have been closer. It also was the unit closest to the water which was great. It is a quiet, off the beaten path property but with the shuttles taking you to D'mall or the beach every hour, you can be in the mix without staying there. Every staff member greeted us with a smile and a hello every time we passed them. They made sure that if any need arose, they took care of it. We booked the island hopping/snorkeling/crystal cove outing through the property and once again were not disappointed. While you may be able to get a slightly better deal down on the beach, the ease and comfort of letting Monaco Suites take care of everything was well worth it. Our guide Adrianne was very attentive and helpful when needed, but also let us enjoy our family time which was nice. As for the restaurant, we only ate breakfast there and were very satisfied with the selection as well as the quality. We also picked up food at the market in town and cooked up small meals and snacks for the kids. The rooms were spacious and well kept. The bathrooms are huge although the shower has no kin of door or curtain on it. We didn't mind except we had to put a towel down to soak up some of the water that invariably got on the floor. Not really an issue, just a bit curious. The balcony views are what really made the room. Just stunning. Everything you wish for when you are coming from the frozen tundra that is the Midwestern U.S. this winter. If you have even the slightest bit of hesitancy about staying here, put it to rest. We will look forward to the time we can come back here.

We have stayed for almost a week in Monaco suites. We were given a top floor suite with an incredible views of the ocean, but conveniently only few metres from the reception building. The suite was spacious and well equipped, but few things needed updating as other things through out the resort. (Pool and beach loungers have seen better days, as well as the umbrellas, and too small and worn out towels). We have eaten only one lunch in the restaurant and it was ok, but not good enough for us to choose it as a place for dinner. Breakfast was quite boring, with a strange mixture of dishes and not a very good coffee. The price per night is way too high for this place, with hotels near the beach charging almost half price, but if you are not that fussy, want an amazing view, peace and quiet and some space after the crowds in the town, you would be happy here. The staff is so friendly and genuine you can't help but smile most of your day. We have fond memories of Monaco Suites, but just hope the management will upkeep the property and won't rely on the location as a selling point.

Dear JitkaW,

Greetings from the shores of Boracay!

Thank you for writing a wonderful review about Monaco Suites de Boracay and raising points for improvement. We are already in the process of changing all our sunbeds, umbrellas, towels and many more. It saddens us that you have only eaten once in Seaview Restaurant, they offer wide selection of food and even local delicacy, maybe on your next visit we could offer you more choices.

We do hope that, overall, Monaco Suites and all our staff had made your one week stay spectacular.

Hope you drop by and choose Monaco Suites again as your home in paradise. For more information and special rates don't hesitate to contact us at info@monacosuitesboracay.com or call us directly at +63-32-288-4800.

Have a wonderful day JitkaW!

Monaco Suites was a great experience. It's located a little far from any of the boat stations, but they make up for it with a convenient and regular shuttle service to D'Mall. Their staff will help arrange transportation to and from the airport, making it a hassle free experience.

In exchange, you get a nice private beach, and giant beautiful rooms, well decorated, large and lavish bathrooms and hearty delicious breakfasts. All in all, a great experience and great value.

First off I love food. I believe that part of your adventure in traveling in trying out the local foods. With that, the kitchen was fully stocked with everything you need. We enjoyed going to the market and shopping for food and cooking the local products there at our suite. They also have room service but it really was fun going out to the local market to buy something to cook ourselves. The beach really lacked, the speed boats were put away, but we still enjoyed sunbathing. One thing did get under my skin though. We had and employee of the hotel following us around in case we needed anything. When we got to the beach we did need him for some towels which he ran off right away to get but after that there was no need for him, and yet he stayed next to us as we relaxed. I finally asked him to go off and have a smoke break or go talk to some friends, that we would like some privacy, and so he agreed, walked away about 50 feet, sat down and went back to shadowing us. It is great if you insist on having someone wait on you hand and foot, which some people do, but for me it was annoying. To be honest though that is my only complaint. We went horseback riding from a nearby stable. Got to visit a lot of the local shopping areas. I didn't take any but there were A LOT of parasailing and other extreme type of events along the beaches. They also have a resort van that takes you to and from wherever you need to go. For the suite itself, the bedroom was spacious, as was the bathroom, and a sizeable living room. And when you walk out, a very beautiful view. If I go back to Boracay again I will definitely be checking out this place again.

Room Tip: I contacted them two months in advance and got a special deal.

We stayed for 8 days at Monaco suites from 19th to 27th Jan... we couldnt have asked for anything better. the whole experience was excellent and we cant praise the staff enough for there constant hard work, excellent service and most of all the genuine happy smiling faces. We will be going back as soon as we can. The shuttle service to the beach and D'mall ensure you get the best of both worlds... peace and quiet at the hotel then the busy beaches and nightlife in the main town if you want it. The trip is only 10-15 mins and always run on time (on the hour to the D'mall and half past to the beach)

This was our best holiday ever and that is down mailny to Monaco Suites....

Room Tip: all rooms have massive balconies with sea views but top floor are best
