“Great Stay with a Few Kinks”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 24, 2013

We loved the location, the staff, and the room at Boracay Beach Houses. We stayed in the Zen room. But, just as others had noted, we had significant Internet difficulties. I understand we aren't staying in a metropolitan area with perfect WiFi, but the problems we experienced here are self-inflicted at the property. They weren't a result of island Internet issues -- it was a router problem, and no one here knows how to fix it. Unfortunately one of us had significant business to conduct, and we couldn't do it from the nice air-conditioning of the room. We had to continue to go out into the community and look for a spot with WiFi connectivity. I don't think the management understands how important it is to be connected if you are trying to run a business while staying on the island. Outside of that, we felt it was great. The food that Andy cooked us one night was the best meal on the trip, and generally the staff is very cordial and helpful (outside of the Internet area, where they are lost). The properly is located in a great area, a bit far from things but that's what we chose, because Boracay can be pretty wild and noisy. The only other negative is that one time we came back to our room and the maids were cleaning it up, but there was another guest sitting at our table chatting with the maids and we felt uncomfortable that someone had been allowed in the room with our stuff spread out everywhere. Also, one night when I had a security issue and wanted to talk to the security guard, we found him sound asleep outside in a chair.

I couldn't rave about this place enough. We had the most beautiful holiday staying in one of the houses. The staff were really lovely and the place is located in a quiet area away from the party and noise. It was quite pricey staying there but it was well worth the money. Definitely staying there again next time.

I rented the "Mactan" house (whole house), also known as "Beach House M" on MyBoracayGuide and part of the "Boracay Beach Houses" located in Angol, on the southern end of White Beach near station 3.

Arrival was at night time, and getting to the house is a "fun" experience -- rolling luggage through down hills, across a dry creek bed, along the beach. Be warned about bringing roller luggage -- better to carry if possible.

The upstairs of the house was lovely containing a private balcony, queen bed and sitting area and bathroom. The downstairs had 2 bedroom apartments interconnecting, each with their own bathroom. The front apartment opened directly onto the beach front.

Smoking is only permitted outside (on balcony or beach).

WARNING: For those renting "Whole House" and expecting privacy, it may not be what you expect.... Even though we had done this (2 of us for 10 days wanted privacy, so we took the whole house).. There is an attached apartment upstairs behind the main bedroom that they rent separately, and the "Slate" house 8 feet away shares the same common facilities. So we found others sitting at the patio table immediately outside the bedroom early mornings, and others on the sun chairs in the front courtyard. So don;t expect total privacy.

Also, internet was a major problem for us, when we arrived, it was not working, and having specifically chosen this property for privacy and internet access, became an issue. the local management staff are nice people (husband and wife that live downstairs), but they did not appear to understand how to turn on the router. Ended up using my mobile phone 3g service for sending urgent emails, and sent one to the owner in Europe, who tried as best he could to get the local staff to fix it. Turned out, there are 2 routers, and they were using one, turning off the other router for guests. After 6 days of struggling, we did finally get internet turned on.

The LOCATION is great -- 15 minute walk to D'mall for shopping/banking etc... and 2 minute walk to Red Pirates and nearby restaurants. But the best part is the private beach swimming area -- in my opinion the best on all of white beach.

On site armed security 24/7 is a bit weird at first, but you get to appreciate it later in the stay. The nighttime guards generally sit at the entrance from the beach to the homes, and are very friendly.

Bottom Line, it's a great SEMI private, comfortable home in a terrific private beach location, and while the price is high, you will have a hard time finding something better.

Room Tip: Upstairs of Mactan or Slate has great balcony view of ocean.

We stayed at the Boracay Beach Houses in May 2011 for 5 nights. It was for a family birthday so we had 9 people & rented out the Mactan & Slate Houses in full. The houses were fantastic. We couldnt have been happier. The location is superb - you are literally on the beach. It is up the quiet end of White beach - far enough away from the noisy restuarants & bars - but close enough if you want to head down to them. Walking to D'Mall area (right in the centre of White Beach) took about 20 easy minutes stroll along the beach path. There is a quiet restaurant on one side of the houses that was more than happy to deliver food to us (and beer when we ran out...) when it was raining - we managed to cop the back end of a typhoon! All part of the fun while travelling in Asia...

A few doors up the other way was a dive shop that had a bar - again very quiet - but from all account (my wife & sisters in law) served fantastic cocktails.

The staff at the houses were lovely & would happily help out with anything. We had a few issues with our flights (Seaair managed to cancel our flights & put us on a replacement one 5 hours earlier than planned) which meant a 6.30am flight - and a 4.30am transfer... The staff contacted the transfer group & got things changed.

The houses - while serviced - do not have everything you may expect, so come prepared. They didnt provide any soap or shampoo. Pretty much everything else is catered for except these - so make sure you steal some from another hotel - especially if you have a stopover in Manila. Or catch a bike down to D'Mall & stock up on soap & beer at the supermarket.

We will hopefully get back to the Beach Houses one day again when the weather is better & I would recommend them to anyone who wants a relaxing holiday in Boracay.

We booked through the Boracay Beach Houses website directly & didnt have any problems at all. Follow up emails were answered promptly & efficiently.

Just a quick note on the transfer group (SouthWest) - they werent very good on the return trip - I appreciate we are dealing with some interesting means of transport to get to/from the Houses & it was very early in the morning, but they basically disappeared once we got to the boat. Luckily we have travelled enough to be confident travellers (even with an 18 month old now...), but I suggest you do a bit of homework before going & have an idea of how to get there.

(From the airport - you can get a tricycle to the Port (Seair have a free shuttle bus) & then an outrigger boat to the island & then another tricyle or jeep to the Houses. The tricycles cant get all the way to the Houses - there is a 5 min walk partially on the sand & you are there. If you tell the tricycle riders Angol place they will know where to go - from there its down to the end of the path & turn left. The houses are about 100m on the left.

My two week stay at Boracay Beach Houses this May was wonderful. I heard about this place from friends and would recommend it to all- families, couples or solos! It's equipped for all and with a variety of rooms and styles there's one for everyone! I stayed in the Zen room, and it was most definitely Zen! The general layout was spacious, stylish and relaxing after a long day in the sun. The bathroom was always clean and the room well maintained by the fantastic staff, who were always available for a helping hand. They were constantly smiling, friendly and definitely a large part of what made the trip so enjoyable! Boracay itself is beautiful and this resort is the perfect way to view the island at its best. With only a 15 minute walk to the shops and a 2 minute walk to the latest tricycle stop, it's close enough to enjoy the amenities on offer, but far enough away to allow the peace and the serenity of the island to be enjoyed too. Overall, this trip has been the most phenomenal of my life and it was largely due to the wonderful Boracay Beach Houses. I hope to return in the not too distant future!

We (4 adults and 1 child) stayed in the bottom 2 rooms of the Mactan House and it was pure bliss. The location is away from the hussle and bussle but this suited us as we wanted peace and quiet and it was only a 20 minute walk to Station 2. When we walked out of our room,. the beach was just there and we were only steps away from the beautiful blue water. But if you are there for the nightlife, I'd recommend staying closer to Station 2.

Breakfast was spent at the front of the room, overlooking the beach and the food was plentyful. A fruit platter with pineapple, mango and banana was served followed by either an american breakfast of eggs, bacon/ham and bread or a filipino breakfast of eggs, bacon/ham and rice.

The staff definitely make this place. They are all friendly and happy to help you in any way. In fact, you can give them money to buy ingredients for your dinner which they buy at the market and then cook for you. Ask Andy to make his famous marinated chicken or fish! Even Logi, the security guard will be up for a chat.

On our final day we checked out the Anito House at the back and it is amazing, If you can, stay there as it has amazing views, amazing decor and is directly behind the Mactan House (although you do need to walk up about 3 flights of stairs!)

There is however some room for improvement... We were eaten alive by mosquitos even with the plug in mosquito thing and the aircon. Not sure how they could fix this but this definitely impacted our stay. And one final but small thing, a cake of soap would be great and a dish to put it in!

I highly recommend this place and look forward to returning...

White beach - We´ve spent a wonderful stay on Boracay - from the beginning to the end perfectly organized and professionally pampered. The location of the beach houses is good for quiet vacation as well as for a party trip. The staff is nice and friendly. The room is huge and fully equiped, but the bathroom is small. Anyway the interior is tasteful and the roomservice excellent. We would come back - no question.
