What an awesome holiday! Boracay is as beautiful as I'd heard!
My friends and I booked 3 of the 4 rooms in Zuzuni, which made it feel very intimate and like home. They even threw in free one-way transfers from Caticlan. However, after a 3 hour delay in Manila, our cebu pacific flight was diverted to Kalibo instead of Caticlan and we were freaking out about missing our transfer. Luckily, Zuzuni's people were waiting for us at Kalibo airport, holding a big sign with my name on it. Good service!
The breakfasts were delicious! And included a big selection of fresh fruit juices! Remember to ask for "no sugar" when you order juices, otherwise they'll automatically add about a tablespoon full. When you book your room, make sure you ask them to provide brekkie everyday. Dont order the bacon though, unless you like it completely nuked and rock hard. Waffles were better than Pancake House. My fave is Pinoy (ie. Filipino) brekkie with beef tapa. We never had lunch or dinner here, but saw that quite a lot of tourists from other hotels were coming to try the food. The menu looks Greek.
There are only 4 rooms at Zuzuni, and there is a massive difference between them all. They all have ensuites with shower and toilet. We paid 71000 pesos for 1 Premier room and 2 Deluxe rooms for 5 nights over Chinese New Year with breakfasts each day and one-way transfers. My fiance and I had the Premier room at the front. It was spacious with a huge bed, table with 2 chairs, a little sofa and was the only room with a balcony, mini bar and a safe. Two girl friends shared a Deluxe room with two single beds, whilst one guy stayed in a Deluxe room with a double bed. Their rooms were much smaller and quite basic compared to ours, but also probably quieter because it was at the back of the building. There is a nightclub 2 doors down that pumps loud music until quite late into the night, but my friends and I were out every night until late anyway so it didn't bother us! Remember, you're on holiday, and you don't have work tomorrow!
The location was the highlight. It is literally on the beach. Straight after breakfast, you can walk 5 metres to the deck chair and start basking in the sun or frolicking in the waves. It's only about 2 or 3 mins walk to D'Mall. Very nearby, there are chilled out bars serving hookahs on the beach, and nightclubs with fire dancers, and Starbucks, and loads of other things.
Yes, there are vendors in the day time. But I could see most resorts (incl Zuzuni) have "NO VENDORS ALLOWED" signage up, and the vendors will usually only bother you on the walking path. Besides, we found that the vendors stop bothering you if you just smile and politely say, "No thanks". We did get great deals out of them when we wanted though. As a general rule, we were able to get half price off the deal they present to you. For instance, they offered 5000 pesos for 4 hr island hopping for 4 people. We ended up paying 2100 pesos. By the way, "Island Hopping" is actually just snorkeling off a catamaran. Remember to bring bread to feed the fish.
Massages in Boracay are a MUST! One of my friends had Zuzuni arrange a masseuse to come to his room for a massage, and it cost 500 pesos for 1 hour. Dodgy as it sounds, he claims there was no hanky-panky and was excellent! Us girls on the trip opted to get massages and body treatments at Kai, and also Mandala. Both were good.
