“Nice few hours to venture into caves, look at formations and zipline!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 12, 2013 via mobile

My family and I stopped by after the underground river tour. It was well worth the stop. We got to look and walk/climb through caves. (Warning can be very difficult if overweight/bad back/not athletic). Alternatively there's as few things you can do on the ground.

The caves are limestone formations having various structures due to historical amounts of erosion mainly by water. Vugs/fractures exist within the different formations making quite interesting to look at for geology enthusiasts.

The best part was the pipeline for me. Two positions exist: fast ride where you sit and slightly slower one in superman position. Was a little nervous about safety but took my chances. Health and safety standards in Palawan seem to be of a higher standard than other places such as Bali/Phuket.

Ziplining in the rain. Great!

Worth the stop. It is a community driven project.

“Ugong Rock - Tour, Spelunking & Zip lining”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 12, 2013

Our trip to Ugong Rock was not a planned one, but a latter part to our Underground River tour.
It consists of a tour around the Ugong Rock formation and Spelunking – zip lining was optional.

The Ugong Rock attraction is run by the community that live in the area, making their community a self-sustaining one. Our tour guide explained that they once used to be loggers and now, are preserving the environment whilst creating jobs for their people.

You are first ushered for the briefing where they explain the tour. It was truly heart-warming to see them all work together- the older ladies of the town were in charge of providing our tour/Spelunking gear (hard hats and gloves), the other community member were guides and the able bodied men and women were in charge of the zip-lining zone.

To reach the zipline area, you must trek up the rock and pass the Spelunking area. People who are claustrophobic, high blood pressure or physically find it difficult to hoist their own weight are not recommended to do so.

Our Ugong Rock guide was very knowledgeable and very pleasant – although spoken in English, she was very thorough in her explanations. One of the most interesting part of the formation – other than the fact that the word Ugong meant that if you knock on the rock, it resonated a gong-like sound – but the once water submerged formation clearly showed about 7 layers of where the water level once was, a staggering 100 years between them.

It was even more exciting when it started to rain and made the trek to the top of the rock through tight openings and vine covered steps. Our guide told us that was as far as she will go as you continue on to Spelunking. A quick hoist up a steep slant with harnesses and rope you’re on your way up to the zip lining area.

You have a choice between a sitting zip-lining that would be 21 seconds to the bottom or the Superman (harnessed at two places – spread-eagled like Superman!) which would take about 35 seconds. These have different drop off zones – each with a picture opportunity which you can choose and buy a photo of yourself zip-lining down from what seemed to be a giant tree (since the Ugong Rock is covered with vegetation). Our tour guide van then drove up to our drop zone to pick us up. It was raining and was hard to see with raindrops pelting on your face, but the experience was truly exhilarating.

They all speak great English and some have informed me that even though some may not speak fluent English, they can understand 100%.

“Great activities.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 9, 2013

Its almost the same as the rocks in underground river. But whats nice in this place is the activities. You have to climb up to the top of the mountain through the cave. Its a little expensive though. 200 per pax. But its nice, twas my first time spelunking. And my first time to do zipline, on the countries fastest zipline.

“an added bonus to the underground river tour! and then some...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 8, 2013

After the underground river tour, lunch and rest, we were offered this "new" adventure.. We didn't really plan to include this in that day, but we just went for it, not that expensive, and closer to nature.

Beautiful, amazing how these caves were formed by water (yes, it was underwater many, many, many years ago) and it was cool inside. It got more strenuous the further we got, we had to squeeze ourselves through tight spaces and openings. Good thing we weren't that big or massive, we were just right.

Upon reaching the peak, we were greeted by a great view of the mountains and greenery. To go down, we were given the choice of either zip line or go down the caves. We went the wiser option of doing the zip line.

“Good sidetrip”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 7, 2013 via mobile

This tour was not originally part of the tour. We finished early on our Underground River tour and our tour guide, Ms. Phen, asked us if we would like to make a sidetrip at Ugong Rock. Good thing we agreed. Had fun with spelunking and the fastest zipline in the whole Philippines. It's worth a visit!
